Death Star Birdhouse: That’s No Nest

We’ve seen birdhouses that look like R2-D2 and C-3PO, but if your feathered friends lean towards the Dark Side – and are suckers for official Star Wars merch – forget about the droid nests and get this instead. It’s an officially licensed Death Star ceramic bird nest. Now that’s what I’m Tarkin about.

It doesn’t have a superlaser, but at least it doesn’t have vulnerable reactor cores either.

Overzealous TSA officers decided to detain Star Wars actor Peter Mayhew because of his lightsaber cane.

Chewbacca Has a Run in with the TSA

Man, the TSA can suck. Who knew that going from point A to point B would ever become such a nightmare. Yeah, this isn’t the same country that many of us grew up in. Our rights mean very little these days it seems. And when they harass the likes of Chewbacca, they have finally gone too far.

peter mayhew

For one thing a Wookiee can rip your arms out of it’s socket. For another, when you harass 69-year-old Peter Mayhew, the actor who played Chewbacca, you will piss off a whole planetful of geeks. The man was just trying to get his large lightsaber cane and be on his way while traveling after attending Denver Comic Con.

Apparently having the incident tweeted encouraged them to release the cane. Wise move TSA. Now go grope Jar-Jar. BTW, how awesome is it that he has a lightsaber cane?

Lightsaber Knitting Needles: for Stitch Lords

A couple of weeks ago we saw a crochet hook that looks like a lightsaber. This DIY project on the other hand gives you a knitting implement that looks like a lightsaber, except this time it also lights up. Not that you’d want to knit in the dark.

Instructables member Random_Canadian came up with the design. He used small LED flashlights as the base. He replaced the white LEDs in the flashlights with red and green, but you can pick whatever color you want. He then used acrylic rods as needles, because the rods focus and extend the light from the LEDs.

Admiral Ackbar Magnitude Bust: Napoleon It’s a BonaTrap

Careful Star Wars fans! What you’re seeing, it’s a trap! For your money, that is. It’s the wise and bug-eyed Admiral Ackbar, decked in military uniform and a glorious mustache. This fine sculpture is based on a glorious painting by Steven Daily.

Chewbacca Cookies are Chewie, No Really!

Delicious Chewie chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven? Holy Yum! Now I see how Chewie got his name. He should be called Chewie and gooey with all of those chips. And just look at his tasty candy bandoleer.

Wookiees may be able to pull your arm out of it’s socket, but they aren’t so tough when they are going in your mouth with a nice glass of milk. Not so tough now are you? Looks like the Keebler Elves took over your tree. They probably have Ewoks working the assembly line, packaging these cookies up.

These awesome Wookiee cookiees come from Diamonds for Dessert, who also made up a Han Solo Cup so she has a place to dunk them…

DIY Sound Trooper Suit: Welcome to the Loud Side of the Force

We’ve seen all kinds of Stormtrooper get-ups, but how about a Sound Trooper? This project by Unbox Therapy is just that. This crazy suit that features 20 JBL Micro 2 speakers attached to a hockey shoulder pad using industrial strength Velcro.

It turns the wearer into a walking speaker fit to broadcast Imperial propaganda or just some cool tunes. The Imperial March is of course best. The JBL Micro 2s are daisy-chained together and connected to a Nexus 4 for sound input. Watch the entire video below if you want to see the build process, or skip to 3:45 to see and hear it in action.

This thing will definitely get you noticed on the street as evidenced above. This is an awesome project. You are your own soundtrack.

Steampunk AT-AT Liquor Cabinet: for the Lords of the Victorian Empire

Vancouver artist Colin Johnson made a unique piece of furniture shaped like the AT-AT from The Empire Strikes Back. He calls it the Emperor’s Cabinet. You wouldn’t want to take down this Imperial Walker, but you would want to open it up. That’s because it’s hiding drinks behind its door.

Colin made it out of plywood, mahogany veneer, brass and glass. I wonder what a Jedi’s drink of choice would be. I assume the Sith just drink the blood and tears of their victims.
