The Winter Olympics are a lot more fun when you add Star Wars lasers

I’d watch more Winter Olympics sports if they had Imperial AT-AT walkers firing lasers at the athletes. Non-lethal lasers, that is. Or lethal. I’d watch anyway.

Darth Vader Made from Old Gadgets

Check out this mixed media Darth Vader, made from all kinds of electronics and gadgets. It looks just like the real Vader – if he were made from circuit boards, PlayStation controllers, Game Boys iPods and mice. It looks amazing and I would love to have this guy on my wall.

The piece was made by Argentina-based artist Elisa Naranja Metalica, who is inspired by all things pop culture. To make her pieces, she uses toys, trash, jewelry, electronics and more. In addition to the aforementioned gadgets, I spy some old floppy disks, cell phones, AC adapters, remote controls and at least one Super Nintendo cartridge.

Elisa has made lots of other awesome mixed media piece as well – like this My Little Junk Pony.

She does amazing work. You can check out her Flickr page to see more. Be sure to check out the hi-res versions for all the detail.

These Nerdy 8-Bit Watercolors Would Look Just Dashing in Your House

Art is hard. It’s hard to make decisions about what will look good where. It’s hard to save up enough money to buy really good art. And it’s really hard to find the time to actually hang it on your wall once you do make a purchase.

Empire Strikes Back “I Love You, I Know” Hand Towels

Looking for a special geeky gift for your Valentine this year? Check out these Empire Strikes Back hand towels. They are perfect for couples – who like Han and Leia – need few words to sum up their feelings.

These hand towels are embroidered with the profiles of Han and Leia with the words “I Love You/I Know” on them. On the other side, there’s a really nice row of embroidered Rebel Alliance symbols and the Star Wars logo. Han will love them because he can wipe his greasy hands on them after working on the Falcon. Leia will love them because they match her bathrobe.

Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrellas: Saberellas?

If you have been reading Technabob for a while, you might recall back in 2012 when we mentioned some Star Wars lightsaber umbrellas that had surfaced. When these things first hit the market, they went for over $60 each, which is way too much money if you ask me. Our favorite seller of all things geeky, ThinkGeek, now has its hands on three versions of the Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrella, and they are much more affordable this time out.

ThinkGeek has the Darth Vader, Obi-wan, and Yoda versions of the lightsaber umbrella for $35.99(USD). That is money well spent to stay dry. The shaft of the umbrella is anodized in the correct color for the blade of the saber when you open it.

The Yoda version is green, Vader style is red, naturally, and the Obi-Wan version has a blue shaft. Each of the hilts is styled after the lightsabers used in the films. The umbrellas also have a silk-screened logo for the Jedi or Imperial forces and come with a shoulder holder.

These won’t protect you from ice storms on Hoth, but they might be good for those rainy days in the swamps of Dagobah.

Star Wars AT-AT Walker Sled: The Empire Slides Back

Check out this massive AT-AT walker that doubles as a sled. It wasn’t built by the Empire, which is why it isn’t the size of a skyscraper. Doug Brewbaker, Garret Geiger, and James Groves spent 70 hours building this amazing seven-foot, eight-inch tall AT-AT Walker sled.

This incredible beast was made out of only cardboard, paper, glue, tape, and paint. This huge four-legged sled went up against 50 other competitors at the 8th Annual Cardboard Classic in Lansing, Michigan on January 25th, 2014.

Unfortunately its journey only lasted about 15 seconds as it descended down a hill. I suspect it was a snowspeeder with a tow cable that took it down.

Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrellas lets you duke it out with one another

star-wars-lightsaber-umbrellaThe big kid in you would have definitely wanted to duke it out like a man with your siblings or friends using lightsabers when you first watched the Star Wars movies, never mind that the kind of physics involved in the movie are shaky at best. After all, what better way there is to settle a dispute than in a duel set in a fantasy environment? The lightsaber has proven itself to be a tool of offence as well as defense, and Obi-Wan Kenobi is a shining example of strong defense with his ‘saber skills. With the $35.99 Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrellas, you will be able to protect yourself from the rain without having to invoke any midichlorians along the way, while ensuring that you will always be prepared to meet the threat of any Jedi, Dark Jedi, or Sith.

The Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrella sports an anodized shaft in the appropriate color of the saber blade, where each purchase would come with a carrying sheath alongside a shoulder strap. The hilts are not according to scale so that they will be easier to hold in the midst of a storm, and the canopy segment even comes with the saber owner’s affiliation insignia (Jedi or Imperial) silk-screened on it. Guaranteed to turn heads whenever you go out with one of these during those bright sunny or rainy days, you can choose from a green, red or blue shaft that represents Yoda, Darth Vader and Obi-Wan. Each of these are fully licensed Lucasfilm collectibles just in case you were wondering.
