Xi3 Piston Does Non-Steam Games
Posted in: Today's ChiliXi3 Piston was the first device which was revealed when Valve shared that they were about to make the jump into the world of hardware, although it must be noted that the Xi3 Piston is far from being a Steam Machine simply because “if you can play it on a computer you should be able to play it on a Piston”. That’s that then, and Xi3 CMO David Politis also shared, “We believe, and I think the market’s very clear about this, that the biggest concentration today is in the Windows marketplace. “We’re still friends. We still love Valve, we love Steam. “We’ve gone separate directions today – that doesn’t mean we’re not supporting Valve. They’ve got 50+ million users on Steam. Why wouldn’t you support them?

There are some games which play better with a console controller, and there are games that are impossible to play without a keyboard and mouse setup, but it hasn’t stopped developers from trying. Now as you might have heard, Valve has recently unveiled a host of Steam Machines at CES 2014 where there will be as many as 13 different versions to choose from, and all of which will come bundled with the Steam Controller which is admittedly rather uniquely shaped. Will all games be compatible with the Steam Controller? Well perhaps not and Valve’s Dota 2 is probably not one of them. Speaking to Polygon at CES, Valve engineer Jeff Bellinghausen stated that games such as Dota 2 required a fair amount of keyboard input, making it a pretty complicated process to try and incorporate those inputs into the Steam Controller.
However he also admits that being able to play games like Dota 2 on the couch and on a large screen display, like a television, would be a really neat opportunity. Despite new API support, Bellinghausen does not believe it will be possible to full replicate the keyboard and mouse experience on the controller, but believe that they are 90% of the way there. “What we’re trying to do is find a way to get close to that performance, but [from] your couch. That’s the goal, to get close to that performance level.” Given that Steam is a platform of PC games, it is natural that not all games were designed for controller support in mind, but will Valve be able to pull this off? We guess we will just have to wait and see.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance For PC Requires An Internet Connection To Work
Posted in: Today's ChiliBack in December it was revealed that Metal Gear Rising: Revengenace would be making its way onto the PC platform come 9th of January 2014. This is definitely great news for PC gamers who might not have owned the console version of the game that was released on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 back in 2013. Now before PC gamers get too excited about the game, it has been discovered that in order for the game to work, you will be required to have an internet connection, meaning that if your internet is down or if you decide to disconnect for whatever reason, you will not be able to play the game. This also means that if you get disconnected from the internet, you will be booted from the game immediately.
This was discovered when the game was put up on Steam for purchase whereby a number of Steam users written in to inform gamers about the always-on requirement. This is a bit odd given that the game is a single-player game, so the need for an internet connection is a bit odd. It is understandable if games like Diablo 3 which has single and multiplayer elements to have an always-on requirement, but we’re not sure what the deal is here. It is unclear if this is a bug or if it could be a DRM put into place by Konami, and the description on its Steam page does not state that an always-on internet connection is required either.
In any case whether this is a bug or a DRM put int place by Konami remains to be seen, but for gamers out there looking to get in on the action, this is definitely something worth taking note of before you go ahead and make your purchase.

13 Steam Boxes, Ranked
Posted in: Today's ChiliLast night, Valve announced and showed off a collection of 13 different third-party Steam Boxes at its CES event. What Valve didn’t do was rank them for you. We’ve taken the liberty of handling that, based on criteria that’s almost entirely arbitrary.
