Steve Jobs’ Los Altos home designated historic resource

The home of the late and great Steve Jobs has received a designation of honor, being added to the list of Los Altos historic properties. The label was applied last night following a unanimous vote by the Los Altos Historical Commission, which has officially dubbed the home a historic resource. For those unaware, this is […]

Childhood Home Of Steve Jobs Designated As “Historic Resource”

Childhood Home Of Steve Jobs Designated As Historic Resource

We’ve all heard and read the story of how Steve Jobs co-founded Apple in his garage decades ago, and how the nascent company and its very few employees sat in that same garage to build some of its first computers. The garage of Steve’s childhood home is definitely an iconic place, it gave birth to one of the most valuable companies on the planet. The Los Altos Historical Commission seems to agree, as it has voted unanimously to designate the home as a “historic resource.”

This unanimous vote marks the end of a two year effort lead by the commission to preserve the ranch-style home as it is, the commission conducted extensive research and property evaluation. Chairman Frank Bishop praised the work carried out by city staff and his colleagues on the commission. The current owner of this house is Patricia Jobs, Steve’s sister, who wasn’t required to give permission in order for it to be designated as a “historic resource.” However, Patricia can appeal the decision to the city council if she wants. It was at this very house that the first 100 Apple 1 computers were built, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and even Patricia Jobs were the few people that helped out. Apple now operates out of Cupertino, California. [Image via Mercury News]

iPhone smoke & mirrors as Apple engineer dishes on Steve Jobs’ big reveal

Apple Co Founder Steve Jobs Childhood Home May Become Historical Site

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs passed away nearly two years ago, leaving quite the legacy behind. Apple became a huge company under Jobs’ guidance, which is why his childhood home in Los Altos, California is being considered to become a historical site.

The seven-member Los Altos Historical Commission has scheduled a “historic property evaluation” to take place on Monday for Jobs’ ranch-style childhood home. If approved, the house will then have to be preserved at its 2066 Crist Drive location. (more…)

Childhood Home of Steve Jobs Could Become a Historical Site

The modest ranch home pictured below is the location where Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started Apple Computer and built the first computers to bear the company name. It could soon become a protected historical site as well.

The unassuming suburban home is located in Los Altos, California and the seven-member Los Altos Historical Commission is now planning a historical property evaluation for the property. The home is located at 2066 Crist Drive in Los Altos, California and if turned into a historic property it would have to be preserved in perpetuity.

Jobs moved to the home when he was in seventh grade along with his foster parents and lived there through high school. The attached garage is where the first fifty Apple 1 computers were built. The home doesn’t look like it would be very expensive, but the three bedroom, two bath house, which was constructed in 1952, still manages to have a value of about $1.5 million according to the website Zillow, thanks to the ridiculously inflated real estate prices in the area.

Steve Jobs’ Lisa Mouse discovered in lost time capsule buried in 1983

Way back in 1983, a time tube was buried in conjunction with the 1983 International Design Conference in Aspen, Colorado. Steve Jobs’ Time Capsule Recovered: The Ultimate Backup Device

I really don’t care for those reality TV shows where people walk around with metal detectors looking for junk. Most of them end up turning up crappy old coins and cans. But I have to show props to the guys on NatGeo’s Diggers for digging up something epic for once. They managed to find a long lost time capsule buried with stuff from Steve Jobs way back in 1983.

Jobs and other attendees filled the 30-foot-long time capsule with all sorts of stuff after the International Design Conference in Aspen, Colorado some 30 years ago. Most notable among their contributions was Steve Jobs’ mouse from an Apple Lisa he used for the day’s presentation – which apparently is still in mint condition. Bet that’ll fetch some serious buckage at auction.

Despite being known as the “Steve Jobs Time Capsule,” there were many other contributors to the capsule, then known as the Aspen Time Tube. Among them there’s an original Rubik’s Cube, a six pack of Ballantine Ale, some name tags, and a Moody Blues 8-track tape. I’m not sure what the deal is with all the aluminum foil pie tins though.

While they haven’t released images of everything inside, I’m sure you’ll be able to see everything they found in the capsule on an upcoming episode of Diggers on the National Geographic Channel.
