Apple CEO Tim Cook Profiled As A ‘No-Nonsense’ Leader

Apple CEO Tim Cook Profiled As A No Nonsense Leader

The world knows relatively less about Apple CEO Tim Cook than it does about his predecessor, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. There’s a movie out on his life, his biography has been out for nearly two years. Tim Cook stepped into the spotlight when Jobs gave up the reins in 2011. Many wondered how Cook’s leadership will impact the company after it had spent well over a decade under Jobs, who had his own unique style of running Apple. Reuters has profiled Apple’s current CEO, he’s been called a workaholic who guards his privacy very closely. Apparently, he has a methodical and “no-nonsense” style of leadership that is quite different from Jobs.

JOBS movie tanks on opening weekend

The JOBS movie starring Ashton Kutcher and Josh Gad has been one of the most anticipated movies over the last several months for tech enthusiasts, but it seems the film didn’t fare well with movie-goers and critics alike. The movie only brought in $6.7 million during opening weekend in North America. Reviews have been negative […]

jOBS Biopic Does Not Do As Well As Expected

jOBS Biopic Does Not Do As Well As ExpectedHow many of you are looking forward to the jOBS biopic for the longest time already? We do know that since April last year, Ashton Kutcher was the one who managed to land the role of the late Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic, where we reported that he suffered from pancreas problems while following Steve Jobs’ diet later on. In fact, early this year, the first clip from the jOBS biopic was released to much fanfare, and right now after the movie has been released, the big question would be this – how well did it do at the box office?

Having opened across 2,381 screens this weekend, it raked in an estimated $6.7 million. According to the movie’s distributor, Open Road Films, they were hoping to shift around $8 million to $9 million in tickets for the corresponding period, but failed to do so. Perhaps it had something to do with Steve Wozniak criticizing the truthfulness of the story? So far, jOBS picked up an aggregate score of 25% on Rotten Tomatoes, but chances are it will be able to recoup its budget og $12 million and turn a small profit after taking into consideration DVD sales and TV rights. Would you watch this on the big screen or wait for it to be available on DVD?

Indiegogo Project Launched To Create Steve Jobs Statue

Indiegogo Project Launched To Create Steve Jobs StatuePeople always make jokes about how Apple fans are the most diehard kind of fans, and how they always try to convert people around them to using Apple’s products. While one can enjoy the use of a product without seeing the need to tell everyone about it, there are also fans who take things to the next level, and in this case a recent Indiegogo project has been started up where its creator(s) are currently seeking funds to build a statue of Steve Jobs. We’re not sure how serious they are, but according to the project’s description, depending on how much they can raise, they could end up with a Steve Jobs statue the size of the Statue of Liberty or maybe even the Colossus of Rhodes, which we’re sincerely hoping was said in jest!

While we wouldn’t put it past some hardcore fans to do something like this, it does feel like something of a joke, but we guess you’ll have to be the judge of that! In any case the project has managed to raise close to $500 of its $50,000 goal and with 57 days to go, we wonder if it will be able to hit its goal! More information about the project can be found on its Indiegogo page where you can even make a donation if you wish. Interesting.

Korean Steve Jobs Project Announced By South Korean Government

Korean Steve Jobs Project Announced By South Korean GovernmentSay what you will about Apple and its late co-founder Steve Jobs, but many in the industry and public have regarded Jobs as being an innovator, someone that CEOs should aspire to be. In any case while that is certainly up for debate, over in South Korea it seems that they do hold the belief that Steve Jobs is someone that we can learn from and have launched a “Korean Steve Jobs” project. It sounds a bit weird but according to the project, it is meant to help foster creativity and passion, qualities that Jobs definitely had, into young students who are studying software development.

According to Yoon Jong-rok, the vice minister of Science, ICT & Future Planning, “To help students make the best use of software, the language of the 21st century, we will implement various education policies. If we make efforts to turn children crazy about games into game developers, we will be able to produce creative and talented people armed with SW like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs.” We’re not sure how effective this program will be, but we guess it’s still a good thing that the government is taking an interest in fostering their younger generation’s education and talent.

The attraction of technology stems in part from our admiration of ourselves. In the Mac narrative, the operating system is a metaphor for the mind. The Narcissus myth is revived in the guise of the gawking consumer.

How Did Steve Jobs Turn Technology (And Apple) Into Religion?

The technological values promoted by Apple are part of the Faustian bargain of technology, which both giveth and taketh away. Apple’s ads are allegorical attempts to domesticate foreign and abstract concepts, making them accessible and attractive to everyday adherents.
