Surface Pro driver enables Pen pressure sensitivity in Adobe Photoshop

Surface Pro owners finally get pen pressure sensitivity in Photoshop

After a long and awkward delay, there’s been some movement in the saga known as “Surface Pro’s Pen accessory won’t work with the software that could most benefit from it.” Microsoft’s Panos Panay tweeted yesterday that he had a beta driver from Wacom that had enabled his Pen’s pressure sensitivity in Adobe Photoshop. Around the same time, an updated driver (“Enhanced Tablet Driver 7.1.1-12”) appeared on Wacom’s site, which PocketNow reckons contains the necessary fix. This file may not be final, and there’s no specific reference to Microsoft’s tablet in its changelog, but it’s definitely worth a try at the source link below. Meanwhile, if you’re one of the artistic types who’s been holding off from buying a Surface Pro until this is resolved, then maybe just stay patient a little longer until more users report back on their progress. We’re giving it a go ourselves, and in any case we’ve been assured by our own contacts at Microsoft that there’ll be a happy ending within days.

Microsoft Surface 2 tipped as cautious BUILD release

This week the folks at Microsoft have been tipped to be wrapping up production of a second-generation Surface tablet for Windows 8, readying the device for a reveal at this year’s BUILD developer conference. A release of a second-generation Surface tablet will be done “cautiously” according to sources speaking this week, with the original run of the tablet having sold less than expected in its initial push. Both the Surface RT and the Surface Pro may be getting a full refresh this year.

Word from upstream supply chain sources speaking with Digitimes have suggested that BUILD will be the place where a new generation of Surface tablets will likely appear first. They’ve added that the first generation, having sold what they claim is 1.5 million units total for the first two releases of the tablet (RT and Pro). This being half of the expectations the company had, a “cautious attitude over promotions” has been initiated for the 2nd generation.

This second generation has a series of components largely the same as the first run, with what these same sources say are parts from LG, Samsung, NVIDIA, Intel, and Pegatron. Changes would be in the chassis of the tablet switching from what was manufactured by China-based Chungnam Precision Casing to Ju Teng. At the moment there’ve been no confirmations from any of the named manufacturers on a second-generation Surface model.

The final bit of information this source spoke about this week was the idea that this generation of the Surface tablet would feature between a 7 and 9-inch display, this matching up well with the trend for larger and smaller than 10.1-inch tablet standard sizes in the industry.

Microsoft Surface tablet availability expands amid reports of demand

Microsoft will soon be expanding the availability of its Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets. It stated that due to the high demand for its products in other countries, it has decided to bring its tablets to several more markets. The Surface RT will be expanded to 4 new markets, while the Surface Pro will be expanded to a whopping 24 new markets. The expansion will be completed by the end of June.

Microsoft Surface tablet availability expands amid reports of demand

Currently, the Microsoft Surface RT tablet is available in 25 markets, including: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the U.S. On April 25th, 2 days from now, the Surface RT will become available in Malaysia. It will then head to Mexico by the end of May, and finally to Korea and Thailand by the end of June.

The Surface Pro on the other hand is only available in the United States, China, and Canada. So Microsoft has decided to do a drastic move and launch the Surface Pro into 24 more markets. These markets include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Luxembourg, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. Most of the markets will receive the Surface Pro by the end of May, while Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, and Thailand will get the tablet by the end of June.

Microsoft puts more emphasis on the Surface Pro, stating that its very hard to keep the tablet in stock. Before, the product would sell out constantly in the United States and in Canada, but now sales have stabilized. Microsoft assures consumers that there will be enough stock of its tablets at its retail partners to ensure a smooth and successful launch. The Surface tablet has been praised as the “one device people use to work and play”. To see if the tablet(s) are right for you, be sure to check out our reviews for both the Microsoft Surface RT and the Microsoft Surface Pro.

Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface RT now shipping in more countries

Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface RT now shipping in more countries

Microsoft’s Surface Pro and RT are striking out to more far flung corners of the globe. Redmond just announced this morning that its two Windows 8 tablets will be made available to even more markets, with the Surface RT being the first to branch out, shipping on April 25th to Malaysia and then soon after to Mexico, Korea and Thailand by end May / early June. When it finally hits that early summer release window, the Surface RT will be accessible to a total of 29 markets globally. As for its older sibling, the feature-packed Surface Pro, that angular slate’s set to expand beyond its current limited availability (U.S., Canada and China) to 19 additional markets across Europe (including the UK), Asia and Oceania by the end of next month. And if you’ve been searching high and low for a 128GB Surface Pro to no avail, chin up, as Microsoft’s taken note of your demand and is working with retailers to keep that model “consistently in stock.”

Microsoft Surface RT / Pro Receive Wi-Fi Related Updates

Microsoft Surface RT / Pro Receive Wi Fi Related Updates

The Microsoft Surface has had a rough start as it’s still pretty difficult for people who want a tablet to actually get their hands on one, but that hasn’t stopped Microsoft from rolling out regular updates to both the Surface RT and Surface Pro.

A new update rolled out today almost squarely focuses on both devices’ Wi-Fi connections, with a large amount of Wi-Fi-related fixes aimed at the Surface RT. Here are the updates you can expect to be available on your Surface RT today:  (more…)

Microsoft Releases New Software Update For Surface Tablets

Microsoft Releases New Software Update For Surface Tablets

Microsoft has released a new firmware update for its Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets. The updates come as part of Patch Tuesday, a tradition that started with Windows 98, it is the second Tuesday of each month on which Microsoft regularly releases software updates. The latest update resolves a number of issues, including one related to the Wi-Fi driver on Surface tablets.

In the past few months, Surface RT users have been complaining about issues they’re facing when trying to connect to Wi-Fi networks. This month’s cumulative update for Surface RT tablet was focused mainly on Wi-Fi. The update fixes certain limited connectivity issues, resolves system crashes caused by certain Wi-Fi issues and improves Wi-Fi to handle a diverse range of access points. The cumulative update for Surface Pro tablet comes with a host of bug fixes and driver upgrades. it fixes Surface Type and Touch cover connectivity issues, resolves on screen touch navigation issue in the UEFI boot menu, supports 106/109 keyboards on North American Surface tablets and resolves an issue in which toggling airplane mode would automatically disable the Wi-Fi driver on the Surface Pro.

Microsoft Under Fire In China Over Surface Pro Warranty

Microsoft Under Fire In China Over Surface Pro WarrantyA while back we reported that some customers in China had taken offense at Apple’s warranty policy after the Chinese media revealed that Chinese consumers were not receiving the same treatment as their American counterparts. Apple has since apologized, although it looks like Microsoft is now under fire for doing the same thing with its Surface Pro tablet. According to Bloomberg, they reporting that the China National Radio has highlighted how the device should come with a 1 year repair warranty for the entire device, and a 2 year warranty for its parts.

As it stands, it seems that in China Microsoft is offering only a 1 year warranty that covers the device and its parts, clearly forgoing on the 2 year parts warranty which is part of China’s national law that requires a 2 year parts warranty on notebooks, which we guess is how they view Microsoft’s Surface Pro.

Bloomberg speculates that unless Microsoft nips this in the bud ASAP, they could be facing the same type of wide-spread criticism that Apple had initially faced before its CEO Tim Cook apologized. Surprisingly according to reports, the Chinese media seems to be pretty pleased with Tim Cook’s apology and we have to wonder if Microsoft will be able to enjoy the same luck that they did.
