Due to a delay in production of two key game titles, Target is canceling all PlayStation 4 bundle preorders. The cancellation is prompted by the lack of availability of Watch Dogs and Driveclub. Both of those titles were supposed to be ready by fall 2013, but their releases are being pushed into next year. Target […]

Target’s Brightspot mobile service launches Sunday, starts at $35 per month
Posted in: Today's ChiliEver tenacious retailer Target is once again nipping at Walmart’s heels. Following the introduction of its Target Ticket video-on-demand service — a direct competitor to Vudu — the big box chain is now looking to get into the prepaid phone business with a service known as Brightspot. The MVNO is set to launch on October 6th, which will use T-Mobile’s network and serve as Target’s answer to Straight Talk. Brightspot will offer two service tiers, one for $35 that includes unlimited talk and text, in addition to a $50 plan that piles on unlimited data with 1GB of high-speed use. While Target’s offering is a bit less tempting than Walmart’s (which offers 2.5GB of high-speed usage for $45), the bullseye retailer will reward loyal subscribers with a $25 Target gift card for each six months of paid Brightspot service. Consider it one more excuse to kick your costly monthly phone plan to the curb.

Target will be rolling out a prepaid mobile phone option in conjunction with T-Mobile called Brightspot, giving customers access to contract-free plan options with their own handset or a new one. The service will go live on October 6, but Target has detailed its service ahead of time, though specifics on the plans haven’t been […]
It was back in 2010 when T-Mobile first teamed up with Target to sell its products and services through the retailer’s chain of stores in the U.S. If a recent leak from the infamous @evleaks is true, then a new partnership just might be brewing up between the two. The leak hints at the possibility of both Target and T-Mobile launching a new MVNO called “brightspot.” A MVNO or Mobile Virtual Network Operator is basically a mobile carrier that doesn’t own the wireless network infrastructure over which service is provided, it uses another carrier’s network while setting the prices for its own plans.
Since T-Mobile is going to team up with Target, this makes sense. T-Mobile is one of the four major national mobile carriers in the U.S. According to the purported SIM kit in the leaked image, a $50 plan will be offered which will provide unlimited talk and text as well as 1GB of 4G mobile data. The Galaxy S3 is highlighted on the kit itself, while other devices expected to come with brightspot include the LG Optimus F6, LG Optimus F3 and the Nokia Lumia 521. No confirmation has been received as yet from either T-Mobile or Target, but given the apparent readiness of the SIM kit, it probably won’t be long until brightspot is made official.

Target Ticket video-on-demand service exits closed beta, is now open for everyone
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe heard whispers just a few weeks ago that Target was about to open up its video-on-demand service to the general public. Turns out, those rumors were on the money: Target Ticket exited its closed beta today, and is now live for anyone to try out. Like Amazon Video on Demand, it offers a mix of movies and TV shows, with a choice of rentals and the option to buy outright. At a cursory glance, too, it looks like all the most popular stuff is included. (All six seasons of Breaking Bad? Check.)
As for pricing, there’s no consistent rule here, and we can’t totally explain why some shows are more expensive than others, either ($15 for the third season of Downton Abbey seems like a steal, if you ask us). It’s the same thing with the movie selections: there are lots of recent titles on tap, with prices generally ranging from $13 to $20. We’ve included the link below, along with a link to Target’s new online-only subscription service for buying the same items over and over again. Unfortunately, though, that last one is limited to baby supplies for the time being, so unless you need to stock up on diapers, there’s not much to see there.

Target also selling the iPhone 5c for $79.99 on-contract, now accepting pre-orders
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe’ve already seen Walmart undercut Apple by selling the iPhone 5c for less than the MSRP right out of the gate, but it turns out it’s not the only retailer offering a deal. Target’s also selling the 16GB version for $79.99 on a two-year contract from your choice of carrier, offering a savings of $20. You’ll still pay the same $199.99 for the 32GB model, though, and there’s no similar discount to be found on the iPhone 5s, either (Walmart has knocked it down ten bucks to $189). You’ll find that price in store tomorrow, or you can get your pre-order in on Target’s website now.

Tomorrow Apple’s new iPhones will finally be released to the public in ten select countries around the world. The U.S. is one of those countries, Apple, its retail and carrier partners will begin giving out the devices tomorrow. Two new iPhones have been announced this year, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C. Pre-orders were only accepted for the latter. Target has opened up pre-orders for the iPhone 5C, it is offering the 16GB variant for $79, knocking $20 off Apple’s price and matching Walmart’s in the process. Not only that, customers who have a Target REDcard will get an additional 5 percent discount.
Pre-orders can now be placed through Target Mobile centers. The price cut is only being offered for the base iPhone 5C model, Target will charge the full price for all other models. The retailer will sell the iPhone 5S as well, but it isn’t offering a $10 discount for its base model like Walmart. From Apple Retail Stores across the country, base models of both smartphones will be available for $99 and $199 respectively. This is obviously on contract pricing, customers will have to pick out a service contract with either AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile or Sprint. All four carriers will also begin selling the smartphones through their own stores tomorrow.

There are a lot of online services out there that allow customers to purchase or rent their favorite TV shows and movies. Some would say that this market is saturated now, while some would find it impossible to break customers from the behemoth that is Apple’s iTunes Store. Target, a well known retailer in the U.S., is reportedly launching its own video service soon which will let customers rent or purchase movies and TV shows. The service is called Target Ticket.
The retailer has reportedly been testing the service since May, it is said to have recently told employees that Target Ticket will be made available to all “soon.” The service apparently has a library of over 15,000 titles which include latest releases, TV shows and classic movies. According to TechCrunch, most new movies will be priced at $14.99 while rentals will cost between $3.99 and $4.99. Apparently the Target Ticket apps for iOS and Android have already been released to beta testers, apps are also reportedly planned for set-top boxes and game consoles. Customers who hold a REDCard are likely to receive a nominal discount on purchases and rentals made from Target Ticket. It is said that Target employees will be able to use their 10 percent discount on the new video service.
