Tesla financial Q3 2013 shows record Model S deliveries

This week the folks at Tesla have shared their financial third quarter of the year results, centering on their star automobile: the Model S. This electric vehicle is now on the road with more than 19,000 drivers across 20 countries, and this quarter saw Tesla’s largest delivery numbers in their relatively short history. Tesla also […]

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies is official name of Elon Musk-inspired startup

The startup behind the Elon Musk-originating Hyperloop has announced its official name: Hyperloop Transportation Technologies. The company had revealed its ambitions to make the Hyperloop a reality back in September of this year, and has since traversed a fair bit in the few short weeks it has been working on its plans. The HTT started […]

Tesla Officially Opens West Coast Supercharger Circuit, Covering San Diego To Vancouver

Tesla’s West Coast Supercharger Corridor opened today, making it possible for owners of the Model S to travel free between San Diego and Vancouver, using Highway 101 and Interstate 5. This makes a Supercharger reachable within 200 miles to over 99 percent of Californians and 87 percent of those in Oregon and Washington.

A lot of attention has been paid to Tesla’s efforts to make a coast-to-coast trip in one of its vehicles a reality, via Superchargers and other charging stations, but blanketing the West Coast means that Tesla S owners can now travel from essentially the Mexican border to within the Canadian one without paying any money to fill their cars, and with a minimal amount of charging time required. Superchargers can charge a Tesla S to a capacity worth around 200 miles of driving distance in just 30 minutes, and the stations are positioned near restaurants and shopping centers to give you something to do while your car powers up.

To promote the new corridor, Tesla is having two Model S vehicles make the trip from San Diego to Vancouver, and they’ll be pushing updates to their various social media properties along the way. Spoiler alert: those cars are definitely going to make it without incident.

Supercharger rollout continues globally, with Tesla announcing plans in September to cover 100 percent of the population of Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Denmark and Luxembourg, and 90 percent of the population in England, Wales, and Sweden with a station within 320 kms by the end of 2014. Getting past that basic excuse of “I can’t buy one, there’s nowhere to charge” is clearly a huge part of the company’s global rollout strategy, which is why each of these Supercharger network expansions is a big win for Tesla and for founder Elon Musk.

Tesla west coast Supercharger stations now stretch from San Diego to Vancouver

Tesla has been busy getting its SuperCharger stations in place, having announced various plans and ambitions related to them over the course of this year. There’s good news for Model S owners located on the west coast, with Tesla SuperCharger stations now stretching all the way between Vancouver, Canada and San Diego, California in close […]

Zero-emission cars get 8 state commitment but charging shortage pinches

A push to increase zero-emission cars has seen eight US states set ambitious targets of 3.3m EVs and plug-in hybrids on the roads by 2025, an exponential increase on today’s numbers, with collaborative infrastructure development near the top of the priority list. The pact, signed by California, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Oregon, Connecticut, Rhode Island, […]

Vacuum Tesla Coils Could Clear Up Smoggy Skies

Vacuum Tesla Coils Could Clear Up Smoggy SkiesSmog – the bane of (over)crowded cities, is a problem that should be addressed by any nation afflicted with it. There are always downsides to it, including rising medical costs that might also put additional burden on the government machinery in the long run. In China alone, smog is a fast growing problem that is not going to go away anytime soon. In fact, if our memories serve us just fine, the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics saw most industry in the city shut down so that the smog levels will remain in check. Is there hope for cities down the road? A Dutch designer answers in the affirmative, claiming that he has already come up with a system which is able to pluck smog particles out of the air – literally.

Daan Roosgaarde claims that Tesla coils which are buried just under the surface of the earth might be used to create an electrostatic field. This electrostatic field would then attract smog particles, in a somewhat similar manner as that of an electronic vacuum cleaner. Having worked alongside scientists at the University of Delft in The Netherlands, Roosegaarde claims that early experiments were successful, as they managed to clear a one cubic meter area of smog in a five cubic meter room. In fact, Roosegaarde has already reached a deal with the mayor of Beijing so that it can install a system in a city park in order to showcase the technology, and from there, hopefully convince the masses that their city needs something like this. We wonder what are the energy requirements needed to make sure that enough of these are installed to clear an entire city of smog, and whether there are any more cost effective ways.

Tesla Model S EVs To Arrive With Integrated AT&T Network

Tesla Model S EVs To Arrive With Integrated AT&T NetworkHave you ever entertained the idea of owning an all electric vehicle? Assuming you have answered in the affirmative, then you might want to check out the Tesla Model S in the US, which is said to come with built-in connectivity to the AT&T network. How about that for being an advanced ride, huh? First revealed at the GigaOM Mobilize 2013 in San Francisco recently, the network that powers the connected features in the Tesla Model S happens to hail from AT&T.

In a nutshell, the AT&T connection is present in all Tesla models that will feature an infotainment screen, and according to the good people over at Forbes, it can be assumed that the future Model X too, will be able to communicate via AT&T’s network. Just like before, some of the functions in the car are able to be remotely accessed, with Tesla being able to track driver statistics as well as just where the car is, assuming your ride happens to get stolen. We do wonder how far will this partnership go in the long run, and what the mileage would be like. After all, there must be a very good reason why Tesla teamed up with AT&T instead of the other mobile carriers.
