As quick as Lenovo has been to hop on the Ultrabook bandwagon, it hasn’t been so eager to launch big-screened models. Its new ThinkPad S531 explores that territory at last: the Windows 8 PC mates a slim profile with both a 15.6-inch, lay-flat LCD and a large keyboard. The experience will otherwise be familiar to those who’ve seen the S431, as it shares the same basic design language, the OneLink dock connector and a nine-hour battery. Unfortunately, the similarity also extends to the Ivy Bridge-era Intel processor — there’s no Haswell inside, at least for now. Still, the £575 ($900) UK price is within reach of many buyers, and there’s a 1080p display option coming in July. Lenovo hasn’t said if or when the S531 will reach the US, although we hope it gets a processor upgrade if and when it crosses the Atlantic.

Who says a carbon fiber chassis with sufficient cooling for a Core i7 has to be heavy? The ThinkPad X230s, revealed on Lenovo’s Chinese site following a partial leak in January, looks like a significantly more portable version of last year’s X230, with a weight of just 1.28kg (2.8 pounds) and a minimum thickness of 17.7mm (0.7 inches). There’s room inside for up to 8GB of RAM, either a 240GB SSD or 1TB HDD, fingerprint reader, 720p webcam, VGA and Mini DisplayPort outputs, two USB 3.0 ports and keyboard backlighting. It’s a Windows 8 machine, of course, with shortcut keys and a gesture-optimized TrackPad. We’re on the lookout for further details, including any pricing, and will update this post soon as we have some.

Update: We’re going to hazard a guess that the resolution is 1,366 x 768, based on the January leak. Chinese pricing looks to be around 7,399 yuan ($1,200).

With the release of the latest ThinkPad design from Lenovo, legacy users may notice a change in Lenovo’s design language. This Lenovo ThinkPad S431 takes much of what fans of the ThinkPad line have seen in models released over the past several years and makes tweaks to continue with a design evolution. Here with the ThinkPad S431, a 14-inch LCD display also fits inside a 13-inch frame and a bit of touchscreen technology is employed to control Windows 8.

This machine works with a 180-degree open angle on its display, allowing users to work with the keyboard and/or the touchscreen and Windows 8 in a variety of ways. This notebook works with 3rd generation Intel Core processor options and up to 8GB of memory. Also under the hood users will be able to keep 500GB of files, this allowing for students and entertainment users to store media to their content.

Lenovo appears to be moving toward a cross between small business users and budget thinkers this week with the ThinkPad S431. This release marks the first time that a Lenovo ThinkPad notebook is offered at a price point under a thousand dollars. Starting on the 21st of May, this machine will also be the first ThinkPad to be offered under nine hundred dollars and eight hundred dollars as well, coming in at a cool six hundred and ninty-nine dollars MSRP.

This machine will join its cousins in the ThinkPad line revealed earlier this year at CES and between then and the release of Windows 8. With the release of Windows 8, Lenovo has been one of those PC manufacturers that have been stepping up to offer some unique portable machines that are built around Microsoft’s newest operating system. We previously reviewed the Lenovo Yoga, which is a hybrid machine that is part tablet, part notebook.

This time, we’re taking look at the Lenovo ThinkPad Twist Convertible Ultrabook which is also a hybrid machine of sorts as you can treat it as both a tablet and an Ultrabook, but it doesn’t offer the same feature the Lenovo Yoga did with its ability to disconnect the screen from its keyboard. Instead, Lenovo is allowing you to twist the entire screen to offer a number of different positions giving you multiple viewing options at any time.
