Vianney Halter’s Deep Space Tourbillon: Analog Time from Deep Space Nine!

I’m for any watch inspired by science-fiction, but you probably wouldn’t have guessed that this awesome tourbillon watch, which costs probably as much as your house got its inspiration from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

The Vianney Halter Deep Space Tourbillon watch took several years to design and build. Just like other tourbillon watches, the mechanism is quite elaborate and detailed. It has a spinning triple axis tourbillon that appears to float beneath a bulbous crystal dome, making it look like it’s floating in space.

The “Deep Space” tourbillon powers the arching hour and minute hands, which curve up from the side of its face.

The Deep Space Tourbillon watch sold for an astronomical $192,000(USD) to a collector in China.

The Heartbeat is a Pinhole Camera Powered by a Watch Movement

We’ve all seen pinhole cameras, but this one is pretty extraordinary. It is called Heartbeat and it was custom-made by Korean designer and photographer Kwanghun Hyun. What sets it apart from other pinhole cameras is that it uses a watch movement for its timing mechanism.

Heartbeat

The Heartbeat is a fully-functional camera, and uses a watch mechanism to help control exposure time. Hyun took apart the existing watch movement and reassembled it with his own movement plate and bridges. The end result looks really amazing, with the watch contained within a sealed compartment on the top of the camera.

It is a beautiful camera and all the more beautiful that it is fully functional along with its looks.

Doctor Who Wall Clock Gets all Timey Wimey

I don’t think we’ve ever seen a wall clock in the TARDIS, which is odd since it is a time machine after all. If the Doctor ever did hang up a clock, it would probably look something like this Timey Wimey TARDIS Wall Clock from UnicornEmpirePrints.

timey wimey tardis clock

Naturally, the Timey Wimey Tardis Clock is made in the Gallifreyan style. Of course, Time Lords don’t need any numbers to tell the time.

tardis clock

This wooden clock is painted TARDIS Blue, with a metallic gold backing and is about 8″ tall. It’s selling for $46(USD), which is a whole lot less than buying an entire TARDIS.

The Doctor really might want to think about getting a clock, for the sake of his companions if nothing else. It gets confusing going to the past, the future, sideways…

Tendence Watches: Big, Bold Numerals Exuding Style

There’s something quite awesome about analog watches with big, bold features. It’s not easy to find distinctive watches. After a while, they tend to resemble each other. That’s why I like these watches from Tendence, which look pretty swanky as well as contemporary, so they won’t look out of place in the office or when you’re going out.

Tendence Watches are made in Switzerland and each of them has a large circular case, as big as 50mm in some cases. The dial has some dramatic, raised numbers, making the watch somewhat playful and easy to read but with a glance. Some models have silicon bands, while other have steel, polycarbonate or titanium.

The watches range from about $200 to $1,000, so there’s something for everyone.

Diesel outs “World’s Largest” Wristwatch – The Grand Daddy

As a guy, I prefer a watch with a large face to one with a small one. Though I’m not sure I’d be comfortable wearing this beast. It’s a new watch from Diesel, called the Grand Daddy (model DZ7262), and it measures a ginormous 66mm x 73mm (~2.6″ x 2.87″).

The Grand Daddy offers four completely independent chronograph movements, so you can keep time in four different timezones at once – or better yet, run four different stopwatches simultaneously.

All of that mechanical glory is set into a black ion-plated steel case, with an anti-reflective, irridescent mineral crystal, and set onto a black leather strap. It’s also waterproof to 3ATM (~100 Feet).

Only 1,000 of this massive watch will be produced, and you can get your hands on one of those over at Watchismo – where it sells for $998.99(USD).

Omega Dark Side of The Moon Watch: Ticking Away the Moments

The Dark Side of the Moon was one incredible Pink Floyd album, but you don’t have to worry that the similarly-named Omega Speedmaster watch looks like its prismatic album cover. Instead, it’s just fittingly dark and moody.

The Omega Speedster Dark Side of the Moon Watch is supposed to celebrate the lack of light thanks to its all-black design. It has a black ceramic 44.25mm case, chronograph pushers, a black zirconium oxide ceramic dial, and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The indexes are tipped in white gold, and the chronograph hand is red-tipped and plated in rhodium. It’s strapped on thanks to a Cordura strap with a ceramic buckle.

It will be available soon for a yet undisclosed amount of money. It’s definitely a swanky-looking watch that would look well on many wrists. It’s got that Special-Forces kind of vibe going.

If You Love the iOS Railway Clock, Check out This Official Watch from Mondaine

Remember last year when Apple got into trouble for blatantly ripping off the iconic clock design of the Swiss railway? Well, after that hullabaloo, Apple had to pay for the rights to use this design in iOS. Well if you really like its style, then check out the Mondaine Evo watch.

They were later adapted by Mondaine under an official license from the Federal Swiss Railway.

Analog Watch Really Wants to Be Digital

If you know me, you know I like cool watches. In fact, I have way too many of them, since I keep seeing ones I like. And while this wouldn’t be the first time that I’ve seen a watch which can’t decide whether it wants to be analog or digital, it’s clear which side has won out this time.

digital destruction watch 1

The Digital Destruction Watch looks like a traditional analog watch on its face, but it’s been busted wide open to reveal a digital display underneath. You’ll also notice a couple of busted hands circling around its perimeter, ensuring that its analog side will never work again. The display is set into a black stainless steel case, with a leather wristband.

Keep in mind that the LCD tells time in 24-hour military format, and it’s not clear if it can do 12-hour format. But if you’re ready to say goodbye to analog and hello to digital, you can get the Digital Destruction Watch over at Gadgets & Gear for $140(USD).

This custom-built alarm clock has a unique style that would look perfect in a home game room or a geeky bedroom. It’s got a large LED dot-matrix display that can display time in green, red or orange, as well as in several fonts. You can even set independent alarms for each day of the week.

In addition to offering alarm functionality, the Xronos offers a built in temperature sensor. And since it’s built on the open source Arduino platform, you can customize the programming to your liking. But the customization doesn’t end there.
