Titanfall Will Not Support eSports At Launch

Titanfall Will Not Support eSports At LaunchTitanfall is an upcoming game put together by Respawn Entertainment, a group of former Call of Duty developers. The game has been scheduled for a release on the 11th of March and based on what we’ve seen so far from early gameplay videos, it certainly sounds like a very exciting game. For those wondering, Titanfall is basically an FPS where gamers can play as a solider or in a mech suit, depending on their preference. What makes the game different from other FPS games is the fact that the gameplay is not as straightforward where you look for enemies and shoot at them. Instead gamers will have the opportunity to command mech suits and if they choose to play without the suits, they will be able to run and jump off walls, making the game very dynamic.

That being said, with such gameplay, wouldn’t it be perfect for the competitive gaming scene? Perhaps, but for now, that isn’t the focus of Respawn Entertainment. Speaking to the Major Nelson blog, Respawn’s community manager, Abbie Heppe, stated that competitive gaming tournaments was not their focus and hasn’t really been their focus. “Our focus has been to get a really solid foundation out. A game that is really fun, that will attract players, and keep them playing for a really long time.” But that doesn’t mean that Titanfall won’t feature eSports-like features either, although such features could arrive in future versions of the game instead. “We’re interested in what competitive players think when the game ships, and it’s definitely something we’ll look into, but not something that’s been our primary focus.”

Titanfall Beta To Open To All Xbox One Gamers

Titanfall Beta To Open To All Xbox One GamersJust the other day we reported that Titanfall beta signups had gone live, with the betas expected to be a closed one and limited to a lucky few who managed to be selected. Well the good news is that it looks like plans for a closed beta might have been put aside in favor of an open beta, according to Respawn Entertainment who has decided to open up the beta to all Xbox One gamers. According to Respawn’s founder, Vince Zampella, he originally tweeted, “We have limited server capacity for the beta, but would be good to hit that ceiling,” However he later tweeted that he had heard from Jon Shiring, one of the programmers at the studio, “Ok, just heard from [Respawn programmer Jon Shiring]. His words are ‘Let’s break it’, so the plan is to make the beta fully open and have you max stress it!”

As per the studio’s announcement, it looks like the beta will be open to all Xbox One gamers in a bid to stress test the game’s servers. Stress testing a game is nothing new and most studios who include multiplayer modes of their games tend to offer that. After all what good is a multiplayer game if the developer’s servers can’t handle the load from gamers, right? In the past we have seen titles, such as Blizzard’s Diablo 3, open up its beta to the masses ahead of the game’s launch to stress test the servers and to make tweaks and improvements so that once the game is launched, everything will be running like a well-oiled machine. As for the beta testing of Titanfall for PC, Zampella expects that the open beta will follow shortly after the Xbox One’s beta.
