Toshiba Haswell Sees Action In Refreshed Satellite U And M Notebooks

Toshiba Haswell Sees Action In Refreshed Satellite U And M NotebooksYes, we do know that Intel’s latest generation Haswell processors do not offer so much of a jump in speed and performance, but rather, it intends to deliver improved battery life to your notebook, and earlier this month, we did touch on a story about notebooks from Toshiba that will run on the Haswell platform. Well, as the calendar arrives at July 29th, here we are with word that Toshiba’s Satellite U and M range in the UK has received a refresh, with the Satellite U50t touted to arrive with a 10-point touchscreen display and Windows 8 as the operating system of choice, while the Satellite M50D and M50Dt will run on AMD’s latest APU processors and Radeon graphics.

The entire range that has been tipped for a Q3 release will ship alongside Intel’s fourth generation Haswell processors and HD 4400 graphics, although there is always the option of settling for NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 740M if you need that added graphical firepower (and have some cash to spare alongside, too). Other hardware specifications include Intel WiDi and Miracast technologies within, accompanied by a full-size HDMI port, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, a couple of USB 3.0 ports, and an SD memory card slot. Unfortunately, Toshiba has remained mum on its pricing details.

Toshiba Satellite U and M notebooks go Haswell in full refresh

Intel has inspired another full refresh in Toshiba’s Satellite M and U laptop lines, this time bringing on touchscreen capabilities as well. Both notebook lines now work with up to 16GB RAM (2 x 8GB slots) and 39.6cm (15.6″) HD displays, kicking out up to 7 hours of battery life, the whole lot of them. They’re both coming with DTS Studio Sound audio enhancements across their speaker systems for loud, powerful music and media as well.

This line works with 2 x USB 3.0 ports, one of them working with Sleep-and-Charge. They’ve also got a single USB 2.0 port, one HDMI 1.4 with 3D TV support, and full-sized SD card slot. Inside you’ve got Bluetooth 4.0 technology as well as Miracast support for standardization in display mirroring. That comes with Intel Wireless Display technology as well.

The Toshiba Satellite U50t Ultrabook line works with 4th generation Intel Core processors for Ultrabooks paired with Intel HD Graphics 4400. This device works with a ten-point touchscreen display without option for a non-touch display, and comes in at 377.5 x 249.5 x 21.3mm. This unit comes with up to 1TB HDD and weighs in at 2.3kg at its lightest.

Meanwhile the Toshiba Satellite M range comes in three configurations: M50, M50D, and M50Dt. Users will have options for 4th generation Intel Core processors or the newest in new AMD APU processors, these paired with Intel, NVIDIA, or AMD graphics. That’s Intel HD Graphics 4400, NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M with 2GB VRAM graphics, or AMD Radeon HD graphics (this final option for AMD models only).

The Toshiba Satellite M family works with touchscreen abilities optionally, the whole collection paired with up to a 1TB HDD, weighting in at 2.1kg at least. Each of these notebooks is the same size as the U50t at 377.5 x 249.5 x 21.3mm.

The full range works with Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) as well as Gigabit LAN, so you’ll be connecting at full speed. Every notebook in this article is also being promised by Toshiba for the third quarter of 2013, prices unknown as yet.

Toshiba adds Haswell to refreshed Satellite U and M laptops

Toshiba adds Haswell to refreshed Satellite U and M laptops

While Toshiba already outed its Haswell plans, the company has chosen today to unveil a few more PCs. The outfit’s refreshing its Satellite U and M range in the UK, with the U50t being equipped with a 10-point touchscreen and Windows 8 onboard. The Satellite M50D and M50Dt, meanwhile, boast AMD’s latest APU processors and Radeon graphics. The whole line (which is slated for dispatch in Q3) ships with Intel’s fourth-generation processors and HD 4400 graphics, while those needing a bit more oomph on the pixel pushing side can opt for NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 740M. As you’d expect, Intel’s WiDi and Miracast technologies are infused, and each machine arrives with a full-size HDMI port, Bluetooth 4.0, an SD card slot and a pair of USB 3.0 sockets. Tosh isn’t talking pricing just yet, but you can dig into the specification list just after break.

Toshiba outs Satellite E45t / E55 mid-range laptops, Intel models have Dragon Assistant pre-loaded

Toshiba outs Satellite E45t / E55 mid-range ultraportables, Intel models have Dragon Assistant pre-loaded

A few months after introducing its Kirabook flagship, Toshiba is back with some mid-range laptops that bring some of the same understated design elements. The 14-inch Satellite E45t Ultrabook and the 15-inch E55, announced today, have the same pared-down look as the Kirabook, except they’re made of aluminum instead of pressed magnesium, and the bottom isn’t made of metal but rather, textured plastic. The screen resolution is also lower, at 1,366 x 768; these are middle-of-the-road machines, after all. On the bright side, they all support 802.11ac WiFi — of a surprise on otherwise humdrum systems like these. The E45t, which will be sold only at Best Buy and on Toshiba’s site, comes in just one configuration, with a Core i5 Haswell processor and a 500GB hard drive paired with an SSD. Perhaps most interesting, though, is that the E45t will come with Dragon Assistant on board for simple voice commands (think: shutting down the computer, doing a web search, controlling multimedia playback, et cetera). You can expect to find that next week, on August 4th, with a suggested retail price of $818, though a Toshiba rep told us it’ll likely sell for $799.99 once it actually hits shelves. Just a heads-up.

The 15-inch version, meanwhile, will be offered with either a Core i5 processor and touchscreen (that’s the E55t) or a quad-core A6 APU. There are actually two AMD models: one configuration comes with a touchscreen (that would be the E55Dt) and one has a non-touch panel (that’s the E55D). Strangely, the non-touch model also offers lesser storage; that has a 750GB HDD, while the touch version goes up to a full terabyte. Either way, you get a number pad, which you won’t find on the 14-incher, though you’ll be missing out on that Dragon Assistant app with the AMD models. These will be available in September, a little later than the 14-inch model, with the non-touch E55D going for $580 and the touchscreen E55Dt priced at $700. We haven’t yet confirmed pricing for the E55t, that lone Intel-based model, but we’ll update this post once we do.

Toshiba Excite Pro aims to be first NVIDIA Tegra 4 tablet to market [UPDATE]

This week the Toshiba Excite Pro and Excite Write Pro have appeared on the market with the very first integration (if they do indeed get here before any competitors) of NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 on a tablet. If you’re absolutely unable to wait for NVIDIA’s SHIELD gaming handheld and must get your hands on the company’s newest mobile chipset Tegra 4, you’re in luck. The folks at Toshiba have decided it’s time to bring the processor to the United States this week in the form of two unique tablets – and they’ve brought another Tegra 3 tablet seemingly just for fun as well.

With the Toshiba Excite Pro, the user will be working with a 10.1-inch display with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and 32GB of built-in storage. This machine works with 2GB of RAM and a rather sizable bezel. The Toshiba Excite Write works with essentially the same build – the same innards, at least – this time bringing along an active digitizer to make use of the pressure-sensitive stylus technology built-in to Tegra 4.

NOTE: We’ve got our own Toshiba Excite Pro, Excite Write Pro, and Excite Pure hands-on for your perusal, captured earlier this year not long after the NVIDIA Tegra 4 was first unveiled.

While we’ll have to wait for the tablets to hit our review bench to make any judgements on the final Toshiba product, we’ve had quite a few experiences with the processor they rock over the past few weeks and months. Have a peek at our original SlashGear 101: NVIDIA Tegra 4 in detail article for more information on the processor itself as well as our Tegra 4 tag portal to see the full history of this architecture’s existence thus far.

You’ll also find the ZTE Geek to be coming to the market quick, this device ready and willing to take the crown for world’s first Tegra 4 smartphone.

The third entry in this Toshiba tablet collection in the Toshiba Excite Pure, again, works with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor and a 10.1-inch display at 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. While that’s not the biggest and the best at this point in history, the processor is still powerful enough to handle the biggest and the best of today’s Android gaming range – check the hands-on bits and pieces over the past

This Toshiba three tablet range is appearing on Best Buy and Amazon online, both companies suggesting that shipping time will be between one and two months. Meanwhile we’ve yet to hear from Toshiba about any in-store availability anywhere, stateside or otherwise.

UPDATE: Toshiba now has the full range listed on their retail site, pricing at $299.99, $479.99, and $579.99 USD for the Pure, Pro, and Write, respectively.

UPDATE 2: Just in case you were wondering, NVIDIA has now confirmed that these Toshiba tablets are, indeed, the first Tegra 4-powered tablets to hit retail.

These Are the World’s Fastest SD Cards (For Now, at Least)

These Are the World's Fastest SD Cards (For Now, at Least)

If you worry that your SD cards just can’t keep up with the pace, fret no longer. Toshiba has the world’s fastest SD cards, in the shape of the new Exceria Pro SDHC series, to deal with your ridiculous data acquisition needs.

Toshiba Exceria Pro SD card touted as “world’s fastest”

Toshiba is coming out with an ultra-fast series of SD cards that they’re calling Exceria Pro, and the company is claiming that the new SD cards are the fastest around, with speeds hitting as fast 240 MB/s. These cards are aimed at professionals, such as photographers who need photos saved quickly.

id-2044467-Toshiba_EXCERIA_PRO_TM

The card will come in 16GB and 32GB variants and will offer crazy-fast write speeds that are about as fast a typical solid state drive, thanks to the UHS-II standard that the new cards are using. They don’t have any other fancy features, though, like WiFi transferring, but many photographers and videographers should get a kick out of just the speeds alone.

Besides the Exceria Pro cards, there will also be some regular Exceria SDXC cards that will have capacities of 32GB or 64GB. These will also operate under the UHS-II standard, but they’ll have a maximum write speed of 120 MB/s, which is still pretty darn quick if you ask us, so we wouldn’t count those out just yet.

Toshiba hopes to have these bad boys out by October, with the regular Exceria SD cards releasing in November. Prices have yet to be announced, but it’s said that the 64GB Exceria SDXC card will cost around $250. That’s certainly not cheap change, and we don’t expect point-and-shoot operators to carry these cards around on their person, but if you’re in the media business and need a fast memory card, these will probably do.
