Toyota Plug-In Prius To Receive Price Cut

Toyota Plug In Prius To Receive Price Cut Toyota intends to help accelerate the adoption of electric or hybrid cars through a tried and tested format – by slashing the price of the ride, of course. In fact, we have received word that Toyota would be introducing a $2,000 discount off the base price for the plug-in version of their extremely popular hybrid car. Just how much will it now cost? Well, we are looking at a $29,990 sticker price, in addition to a delivery fee, of course. Not only that, for those of you out there who wants to pick up the advanced version of the plug-in Prius will be able to enjoy a discount of $4,620.

This would mean that Toyota would participate with the likes of Nissan Leaf, the Chevrolet Volt, as well as Honda Fit EV on the list of automobile manufacturers who have already reduced the price of their electric cars by a few thousand dollars so that sales figures can be boosted – fingers crossed, that is. After all, such rides already come with expensive batteries, they already have a low profit margin, so to slash the market price even further does cause one to think. Toyota intends to sweeten their deal by introducing additional standard features such as heated seats, automatic climate control and the ability to ride farther along in EV mode so that you can save more on gas, which is always a good thing.

    Test-Drive: Toyota Winglet Mobility Device

Test Drive: Toyota Winglet Mobility Device

    Me, riding the Winglet…

We’ve reported about the Toyota Winglet earlier this week but since then, I have been able to test-drive one of those cool personal electric vehicle, so here are my impressions: at a very high level, it’s like a Segway, which you may or may not have seen in the real world, but it’s fair to say that most people would naturally be inclined to draw that comparison. It’s the same idea, but the designs are quite different: the Winglet is smaller and would probably beat the Segway in terms in slalom and sharp turn, while Segway may be better for uneven surface and rougher environments. It’s been just over a week since we roamed the halls of the Makuhari Messe in Japan for the Tokyo Game Show, and we’re already back to take a broader look at tech coming from Japan, from the Sonys and the Panasonics down to the Companies You’ve Never Of. There’s going to be a particular focus on car makers this year, with both Nissan and Toyota promising us some interesting new things and you’ll find everything we discover at the dedicated CEATEC 2013 page.

Toyota Prius PHV Wireless Parking Charge

Toyota Prius PHV Wireless Parking Charge[CEATEC 2013] Wireless charging is not just meant for phones and tablets, as cars too, do seem to be catching up on this particular idea. Toyota i-Road Concept Vehicle

Toyota i Road Concept VehicleThe Toyota i-ROAD is an interesting people mover, and it sure as heck looks a whole lot safer (and cooler) compared to your standard moped or scooter. After all, who would not want to travel in air-conditioned comfort, and yet in a vehicle which is small enough to find some parking space at just about anywhere, in addition to being presumably electric powered (and hence letting you clock up your eco-friendly brownie points)? It will also be part of the Toyota Ha:mo system eventually – fingers crossed. Enjoy a photo gallery of the i-ROAD after the jump, where we will also bring you additional details on the coolest ride since the DeLorean (all right, so sue me!).

Toyota Ha:mo Is A System For Cities With Tight Spaces

Toyota Ha:mo Is A System For Cities With Tight Spaces[CEATEC 2013] One major issue when it comes to living in a congested city, or in a bustling metropolis like Tokyo, would be the issue of parking. Parking can be quite horrendous – either it is a miracle to find a parking spot in the busy parts of the city, or the lanes are so narrow, traffic jams become a part of everyday life. Toyota intends to help commuters move intra-city with their Toyota Ha:mo, or Harmonious Mobility Network for short.

    Toyota Winglet Personal Mobility Device

Toyota Winglet Personal Mobility Device[CEATEC 2013] Japan is one country that has a serious aging population issue as they are the country with the highest proportion of elderly citizens with over 20% of them being older than 65 years of age. Having said that, we have seen some elderly care robots in the past, and will continue to do so for the future. In fact, personal mobility devices might just take off eventually, depending on how things go. Toyota has shown off their Winglet personal mobility device which can be said to be a far smaller version of the Segway.

Toyota and Nissan announce recalls over rollaway risk and sensor issues

Both Toyota and Nissan have issued recalls for select models they offer, with Toyota recalling a tad under 700,000 Sienna minivans and Nissan recalling over 900,000 models. In Nissan’s case, some of its cars are experiencing problems with an accelerator sensor that could fail, causing the car to stall. Toyota’s Sienna minivans, meanwhile, have an […]

Toyota Entune infotainment system no longer requires subscription

We got a look at Toyota’s Entune infotainment system back in 2011, an in-car entertainment system offering a variety of apps for certain vehicles. Thus far, Entune has been offered as a subscription service for those who elect to pay for it, something that it put an end to earlier this week. From now on, […]
