Hobbit Sting FX Sword leaves less work for your imagination

sting-fx-swordWhen you were a wee lad, what kind of toys did you have? Most of us who were not all that well off had to settle for some pieces of crayons and perhaps a few sheets of paper, while others had nothing but a cardboard box which could be turned into a spaceship, a pirate’s ship, or even a castle, and how about one of those Formula 1 race cars? In this day and age, imagination among kids seem to have died somewhat, as special effects has made watching movies a whole lot more passive. Lord of the Rings fans will find the $129.99 Hobbit Sting FX Sword something worth purchasing, where in the books (and movies), each time an orc is detected, Sting would start to glow to alert the wielder.

Well, with the Hobbit Sting FX Sword, you no longer need to pretend with a wooden sword that it glows when your neighbor’s kids are around, where all you need to do is twist the sword, and it will begin to glow. Of course, no Middle Earth magic is involved here, just a pair of good old AA batteries would get the job done. Don’t expect this to be a guaranteed way of detecting the presence of orcs, much less your boss!

The 30th Anniversary Voltron is the Defender Of Childhood Nostalgia

The 30th Anniversary Voltron is the Defender Of Childhood Nostalgia

Second only to the Transformers and G.I. Joe as the greatest cartoon/toy lines of the 1980s, Voltron broke new ground in marketing, demanding kids beg for not one but five different toys in order to assemble one giant robot. In hindsight it was pretty sneaky, and now that us children of the 1980s are all grown up, we should know better. But with mountains of disposable income and a nostalgic itch that demands scratching, who wouldn’t want this glorious 30th anniversary edition of Voltron: Defender of the Universe?

An iPhone-Piloted RC Plane That Does Most of the Flying For You

You may not need a pilot’s licence to take the controls of a remote control toy plane, but that doesn’t mean that keeping it in the air is easy. And to ensure that this iPhone-controlled RC SmartPlane spends more time flying than careening towards the ground, it features special software that automatically (and secretly) makes adjustments and corrections on your behalf.

Kinetic Light Newton’s Cradle adds a new twist to an old classic

kinetic-light-newtons-cradleWhen I was a kid, there was a number of kinetic sculptures that always caught my attention at shopping malls, and one of the classic ones was the kinetic ball cradle where one ball would send forth energy from one end to the other, using perpetual motion to go tick-tock tick-tock for what seemed to be forever (to a kid back then, anyways), eventually arriving at a stop because it loses a wee bit of momentum with each passing moment due to friction in the air. Well, the folks over at Thinkgeek have delivered a new twist to an old classic in the form of the $49.99 Kinetic Light Newton’s Cradle.

This is a futuristic take on classic desk accessory, where the Kinetic Light Newton’s Cradle would feature bright, multicolor LEDs in each glass sphere. I would assume that if you enjoy a tipple or two after office hours while still at your cubicle, the Kinetic Light Newton’s Cradle would end up with an even more hypnotic value to you and your like minded colleagues. The lights will react based on their position, and you will need to see it or believe it. There is also the option to be more zen, as you set the LEDs to a single color, while watching the light fade as they swing back and forth.

3D Clue Game adds a new dimension to a regular boardgame

3d-clue-gameHave you ever given the iconic detective game Clue a go in the past? If you have answered in the affirmative, but have not “revisited” it since, perhaps it is time to check it out all over again. Who knows, it might just rekindle your love for boardgames, don’t you think so? Except that since we are now well into the 21st century, having experienced a slew of different technological advancements even in the field of board games, why not bring some of these over to the $249.95 3D Clue Game? This is what Hammacher has done, where all nine rooms of the mortiferous mansion have somewhat sunken in a stately wooden cabinet.

It does not matter if you think that Professor Plum is the one who has committed the dastardly crime in the conservatory, or whether it is Colonel Mustard who stopped his victim’s clock in the billiard room, all players will move their pieces across the tempered glass playing surface, where you are also treated to a view down into the chambers where the crime could very well have happened. Apart from that, each room would feature gold-painted resin furniture, including the table and chairs in the dining room all the way to the butcher block in the kitchen. The lead pipe, candlestick and other suspect weaponry have been made out of metal, where they are then tucked into a faux leather storage case alongside other game essentials such as the cards, player notepads, dice, and die-cast metal, wood-topped playing pieces.
