Nissan LEAF Battery Survives Abuse In Video

What do you think about the Nissan LEAF as an electric vehicle? We did take it out for a spin a few years back, but have not owned one until now. One of the major drawbacks of an electric vehicle would be its battery power, considering how the technology is still in its relative infancy compared to the normal gas-powered engines, how long can a battery last, and how affordable is it to replace if something goes wrong? Not only that, there are also battery durability issues to think about. You would most probably cringe at the content of the YouTube video above, where a Nissan LEAF battery cell went through a real world torture test, including a blowtorch attack as well as a flurry of screwdriver stabs.

Apple Announces CarPlay, Integrates iOS Into Vehicles

Apple Announces CarPlay, Integrates iOS Into VehiclesDriving while using your phone, whether it be to answer calls, reply text messages, or even check on Google Maps is not a bad idea as it essentially takes your attention off the road which could lead to an accident.

Sure there are handsfree kits out there, but apart from being able to answer or end calls, but given that our smartphones are more than capable of doing more than just that, sometimes those solutions just aren’t enough. That is where Apple comes in with their recently announced CarPlay. (more…)

HAV 304 Airlander Is World’s Largest Aircraft

The obsession with the “world’s largest” of a particular thing continues, and this time around, it would be the HAV 304 Airlander that will carry the distinction of being the largest aircraft in the world. I guess even the Airbus A380 does not have a shoutout at all in this hat. The huge size of the HAV 304 Airlander does not make it an automatic enemy of Greenpeace, as it has been touted to be green and efficient. After all, it is a hybrid mode of transportation, is it not? The promotional video that you can see above will certainly give you a sense of foreboding as the HAV 304 Airlander flies over the plains, blotting out the sun in the process. In fact, it is touted to be able to fly for up to three weeks, measure a whopping 300 feet in length and does not need any kind of airport for it to take off. In comparison, the Airbus A380 measures 238.6 feet in length.

Tesla Model E Could Have 200 Mile Range

Is there such a thing as an affordable Tesla model? Well, company founder and CEO Elon Musk did share some information on what the upcoming Tesla Model E would be able to offer to the masses, where it has been deemed to be “affordable” (which I am sure is relative to the Tesla Model S) for everyone. Apparently, there were enough hints that went around which suggested the possibility of the Tesla Model E sporting double the range as well as battery capacity of current affordable electric vehicles. According to Elon Musk himself, the Model E will be approximately 20% smaller compared to the Model S, where it is also fully capable of attaining a similar 200 mile range on a single charge.

Ferrari, Mercedes And Volvo First iOS In The Car Partners [Rumor]

Over the past couple of months we have been consistently hearing rumors about iOS in the Car, a feature that Apple first showed off back at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2013. It is essentially the extension of an iOS powered device in the car, where the firmware has a watered down user interface but performs various crucial functions such as navigation and phone calls as well as display notifications. A new report suggests that iOS in the Car will be unveiled in more detail at the Geneva Motor Show next week, and that the company has already picked its first three partners, namely Ferrari, Mercedes and Volvo.

How It Feels to Ride an Electric Citibike

If you’ve ever ridden a Citibike (or any similar bike-share bicycle) you know: those suckers are heavy. And, if you’ve ever ridden up anything near an incline, you know that heavy bikes absolutely suck on hills. Wouldn’t it be great to just push a button instead?

Google Barge On Its Way To Stockton

Google Barge On Its Way To StocktonA couple of days ago, we did bring you word that the Google Barge would not be docked at the San Francisco Bay island for long, and it seems that particular statement has held true. In fact, the highly mysterious Google Barge is now making its way to the Port of Stockton that is located approximately 129 kilometers on the east of San Francisco in order to comply with an order that requires it to make its base elsewhere. According to the agency that is leasing the Treasure Island space where the barge is being built, this four-story vessel is headed for Stockton. The Google Barge was originally supposed to make its way out only next month, at least that is what Mirian Saez, director of operations for the Treasure Island Development Authority, mentioned.

    Rolls-Royce Working On Sea-Faring Drones

Rolls Royce Working On Sea Faring DronesAmazon might have their Amazon Prime Air program, with hopes of delivering packages to your doorstep using airborne drones in an effort to increase efficiency and doing it in an extremely cool manner (while skipping the clogged road arteries in major cities during rush hour), but this does not mean that airborne delivery is the only way to move forward. No sir, Rolls-Royce Holdings Plc has other ideas – by working on unmanned cargo ships instead. In Rolls-Royce’s Blue Ocean development team, they have decided to set up a virtual-reality prototype at its office in Alesund, Norway, which is capable of simulating 360-degree views from a vessel’s bridge.
