Hyundai Google Glass App Being Developed

Google Glass, the internet search giant’s much hyped wearable gadget, is expected to go public later this year. Up till now the company has only offered it on an invitation-only basis. A public release is expected around April 2014, but nothing has been confirmed as yet. Analysts believe that the device may go big, some have gone so far as to call it the next iPhone. Apps will define how Google Glass makes itself useful in our daily lives and Hyundai is working on one that’s bound to make life easier for owners of its 2015 Genesis sedan.

Hyundai has announced that a number of its next generation cars will be compatible with Google Glass through an app that will be released alongside the 2015 Genesis. The app will let owners locate their vehicle, start it, lock or unlock its doors and send addresses to the navigation system all through Google Glass. Moreover, it will also push notifications to the headset in order to alert users that maintenance on the vehicle is due. An executive director at Hyundai, Barry Ratzlaff, says that wearable devices are a great way to “extend the experience” outside vehicles and that they allow the company to deliver timely vehicle information straight to the owner. Now wouldn’t it be cool to start a car through Google Glass?

TomTom Go Series with TomTom Traffic

TomTom Go Series with TomTom TrafficTomTom has already updated its GPS lineup Go series in Europe back in April and today, the company launched the new TomTom Go Series with TomTom Traffic in the US.

The most significant update is the total re-thinking and re-design of the user interface, and from the screen shots I saw, it looks really promising: everything looks sleeker and nicer, the color scheme is much more harmonious and all the information looks easier to access from the main screen than on the past generation. One key feature I really like is the route bar located on the right side of the screen which lets users see what is coming on the road ahead of time. The software update is really a great improvement (on the paper) over the last generation of Go devices launched at CES 2011.

On the hardware side the key update is the absence of internal 2G/Edge cellular radio, you need to pair your TomTom Go over Bluetooth with your smartphone where you download the companion Traffic app (iOS and Android).

Cobra Drive HD Series Dash Cams

Cobra Drive HD Series Dash Cams[CES 2014] They say that money is unable to buy you happiness. Well, it can buy you a lot of things, but the kind of inner joy that comes from those things last but for a moment, so that saying is pretty much true. However, money can buy you a certain degree of peace, and case in point, the Cobra Drive HD Series dash cams that have just been announced could let you sleep better at night, knowing that should you get involved in any vehicular accident tomorrow, there will always be evidence recorded right in front of you – just make sure that you are not in the wrong, and it should be all good. French Government Passes Law That Makes Uber Customers Wait 15 Minutes

French Government Passes Law That Makes Uber Customers Wait 15 MinutesOne of the reason car services like Uber, SnapCar, and LeCab are popular and starting to gain more traction is because they offer conveniences and act as an alternative to taxi services. Unfortunately it looks like over in France, the French government has recently passed a new law in which it requires car services, like Uber, for example, to wait a good 15 minutes before picking anyone up. This law has been passed as a means to help protect local taxi drivers who are starting to feel threatened by these new services. The reason behind this is because in order to get a taxi license, at least as far as France is concerned, it takes quite a fair bit of time and expense to do so, as opposed to car services which do not seem to have the same requirements which admittedly does seem unfair.

The passing of this law actually comes as somewhat of a surprise to everyone in France, especially since even the French competition authority has deemed the law to be ill-thought-out. A spokesperson for the private car companies has called the new law “absurd, unjust and incomprehensible” and has vowed to fight it. We have to say that this new rule does not make much sense because why should someone have to wait 15 minutes even if they’re just around the corner? What if there were no taxis in the area? Is someone expected to stand in the rain or in a dodgy neighborhood just to satisfy local taxi drivers? What do you guys think of this new law?

How Your Christmas Presents Were Shipped—As Seen in Clouds From Space

Today’s as good a day as any to ponder how massive amounts of stuff gets moved around the world. iPhones from China, sweaters from Bangladesh, chocolates from Switzerland—they all make the transcontinental journey in containers stacked like Legos on cargo ships. And these ships can seed their own clouds, tracing out their paths across the sea.

Electric Vehicles Predicted To Become More Popular In 2040

Electric Vehicles Predicted To Become More Popular In 2040Electric vehicles are starting to become more common these days, and while they are slowly gaining acceptance, safe to say they aren’t as preferred compared to regular fuel-consuming vehicles. Price is one of the reasons holding consumers back, along with the fact that electric vehicles have a limited range and charging stations aren’t as common as gas stations. While it does seem that electric vehicles are the way of the future, just when exactly can we look forward to electric vehicles being more prevalent on our roads?

According to the Energy Information Administration, they are predicting that it will only be 2040 when we still start seeing more electric vehicles on the road, but until then the majority of vehicles will remain as fuel consumers. The reasoning behind this is not so much that consumers are unwilling to adopt electric vehicles, but more because manufacturers are more interested in building advanced gasoline engines, although we suppose hybrid vehicles will sort of be a happy middle until then. In any case what do you guys think? Will it really take 27 years until electric vehicles become more common? Or do you foresee it happening a lot sooner?
