The White House Now Has An Official Tumblr Page

The White House, through its official Twitter account, has announced that it now has an official Tumblr Page. It also promises that there will be GIFs, though doesn’t elaborate what kind of GIFs will be uploaded to this page. Perhaps we will get to see President Obama fist bump White House staffers? We’ve also been promised amazing pictures of Bo, who is the first family’s dog, “wonky charts,” some iconic quotes from the President and details of interesting things going on inside the White House that can be publicly shared.

This administration is in no way a stranger to social media. They’ve heavily relied on Twitter, Facebook and Google+ in the past, and still do, to engage with people. The President also did an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Reddit late last year. The White House will also be taking submissions via the Tumblr submission tool, advice and questions to engage with readers. It goes without saying that some of us are actually excited about GIFs coming out of the White House, one can only wonder what they’ll show us!

White House joins Tumblr, says to expect GIFs

The Obama Administration is once again dipping into social media, this time announcing the creation of an account on Tumblr, which is currently composed of a single post and image. Says the White House, the Tumblr will be used in conjunction with the administration’s other social media accounts to help make it the “most open and accessible administration in history.”

Of course, the White House isn’t likely to provide the same content you usually see on Tumblr – we’d be surprised to see any cat GIFs, for example – although the announcement does say that “yes, of course there will be GIFs.” We’re eager to see what kind the administration puts up, but that aside, the Tumblr will be used to provide things of a more interesting and informative nature.

Users who keep an eye on the administration’s latest social account will find quotes from President Obama, as well as content that is relevant to the administration and White House, such as videos of notable visits and photographs that feature the president. The announcement also promises “wonky charts,” although it doesn’t specify what kind of charts that includes.

And as with similar announcements it has made in the past, the Administration is inviting public participation, requesting that users let them know how they can improve the White House’s Tumblr, ask questions, and share stories with them. Such a task is possible via the Submission Tool. If Tumblr’s not your thing, you can also check out the administration’s Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts.

Tumblr iOS App Updated With New Social Features

Tumblr iOS App Updated With New Social Features

This past week we have seen Tumblr make a number of changes to its mobile offering. Just a couple of days back it announced that ads will now be displayed in Tumblr’s mobile apps. Yesterday the first ever Tumblr app for Windows Phone 8 was released and today their updated iOS app is available for download from iTunes App Store. The update brings a couple of new social features, users can now share directly to Facebook or Twitter from straight within the app. This is a really important feature as users tend to share their content on two of the most widely used online social networks, having the ability to do that straight from the app will no doubt save a lot of time and hassle.

If someone doesn’t want to view Tumblr posts in its app, it now has support for Instapaper and Pocket, which allows for convenient reading on different devices. The app update also brings a new template for email sharing. Tumblr for iOS version 3.3.1 is now online and can be downloaded for free right away from iTunes App Store.

Tumblr for iOS gets new social sharing features, options to save to Instapaper and Pocket

Ever since going native on iOS, the Tumblr app’s been on the receiving end of many, many new features and improvements. Now, continuing its ongoing efforts to make the application as good as can be, the microblogging site has released a new version for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad owners. As of today, Tumblr for iOS will now allow posts to be shared via email and a few major social networks — including, as you’d expect, Facebook and Twitter. In addition, v3.3.1 brings added integration with Pocket and Instapaper, giving users the ability to save content to either service for offline reading at a later time. Busy couple of days, eh, Tumblr?

Tumblr for iOS update brings Facebook, Twitter integration

Tumblr has been out like mad working on its mobile prowess over the past few days. After releasing a dedicated app for Windows Phone 8 yesterday, they’re back again with an update to their iOS app. Tumblr has added support for sharing blog posts to Facebook and Twitter, complete with third-party app support for apps like Tweetbot.

The updated app also includes the ability to save blog posts for later using read-it-later services like Instapaper and Pocket. Users can also email blog posts to friends and family using Tumblr’s all-new template. There’s also some new navigation tweaks, like swiping up or down to close photos, as well as added support for animated GIFs on the dashboard.

Overall, it’s not a huge update, but avid Tumblr users who take advantage of the app while on the go will appreciate some of the new features, especially if they’re all about sharing blog posts with friends. However, users will begin to be bombarded with mobile ads, so be prepared to see sponsored content show up in your feed.

The Tumblr apps for Android and Windows Phone 8 already allow for easy sharing of blog posts, but iOS users are now honored with the feature. Tumblr released a dedicated app for Windows Phone 8 yesterday, bringing lock screen and live tile support along with it, giving Tumblr users on Microsoft’s mobile platform a unique experience unlike iOS or Android.

Tumblr shows faith in Windows Phone 8 with dedicated app

Tumblr has finally released a dedicated app for Windows Phone 8, being the last of the major mobile platforms to get a Tumblr app. This will give Tumblr users the opportunity to experience the social blogging platform on Microsoft’s mobile operating system, complete with live tiles as well as most of the features that other mobile Tumblr users have been enjoying.

The new app includes the ability to follow users and post in all formats that Tumblr allows, including GIFs. Users will also be able to share photos, videos, links, text, etc. The user interface looks like any other Windows Phone 8 app, and it also supports Windows Phone 8′s lock screen and live tiles, meaning that you can have the app display the latest images from your dashboard on your lock screen or Tumblr live tiles.

Tumblr has been taking its time rolling out mobile apps to various mobile operating system. Case in point: Android tablet support as well as iPad support arrived back in December, which is a bit late compared to most other popular services. However, it’s out in full force now on iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone 8.

Tumblr is also just starting to roll out ads to its mobile apps, giving the company another way to bring in the bacon. Tumblr announced just yesterday that they would start doing this. It’s not yet known how this will affect users, or whether or not users will make a big fuss over it, but it’s usually a common convention that people don’t like ads, so many users may not take this lightly.

Tumblr’s Mobile App Finally Comes to Windows Phone
