Twitter Gets Facelift For Web Version

Twitter Gets Facelift For Web VersionEvery once in a while, it makes perfect sense for a particular software or app to receive an update, or a revamp for that matter. After all, one would need to keep up with the times, don’t you think so? It is also not that nice to lose out in the cosmetics arms race, so to speak, to your rivals, and having the same old look for a few years is considered to be a drag, especially when one is involved in the fast paced world of information technology. As for the folks over at Twitter, they have decided to settle on a more uniform look across its Web and app versions, and that would mean making sure that the former is updated.

Next Year Make a Christmas Ornament That Shows Tweets

Christmas may be over, but there’s always next year. And if it is treats under the tree and tweets on the tree that you want, you can prepare for next December right now. Instructables member Gelotology will show you how to make this Tweetball. That’s right. It’s an ornament that displays a stream of tweets from a certain username, hashtag or keyword.

It is especially handy if you are waiting for a tweet from Santa. Gelotology made it with an Arduino controller and two PHP scripts. If you want to make one for yourself, you can find step-by-step instructions at the link above. You’ve got plenty of time to get it done, so you have no excuse.

Santa will be very impressed with you next Christmas.

Muppet Twitter Arguments are the Best Twitter Arguments

Forget about Breaking Bad and throw Leonardo DiCaprio and his squinty, squinty eyes in the trash. The arguments over their merits are boring. But this? This is what a Twitter charge for the new Muppet movie to sweep the Golden Globes would have looked like.

Twitter Cake Has No 140 Calorie Limit

Every slice of this Twitterific cake gives you the bird. As in, Larry, the Twitter mascot. Don’t expect it to stop you from eating more than 140 calories. It is just too delicious looking for that.

You can learn how to make one yourself here and serve up a slice of Twitter at your next party. Basically you will need a tall, somewhat cylindrical container. Next you will print out a template and bend some 0.3 millimeter-thick aluminum flashing to mold into the shape of logo.

After that mix a chocolate cremeux and a white chocolate mousse for the background. You can get the rest of the details at the link. It sounds delicious and it is worth a retweet for sure.

Twitter Brings Achievements To Tweets With @AchievementBird

Twitter Brings Achievements To Tweets With @AchievementBirdThe point of Twitter, we guess, is to share your thoughts with the world, and see what else other people are thinking or get up to. This means that in order to successfully reach a wide audience, you need to build up a following, as well as be able to tweet about the sort of things that people might care about. Either that or be a celebrity in which people will follow you anyway regardless of what you say. Well it seems that Twitter is experimenting with a way to “reward” its power users who have successfully managed to put out a tweet with major reach in the form of something called @AchievementBird.

Basically @AchievementBird is Twitter’s answer to achievements which are featured predominantly in games, whereby completing an aspect of the game in a certain way will yield you the achievement, which sometimes comes with a reward as well. So far it does not look like Twitter will be giving out rewards, other than the satisfaction of landing an achievement. Like we said this is an experiment conducted by Twitter right now so there’s no telling if Twitter plans on keeping this particular feature around, or if it will eventually be let go and fade into obscurity.

In the meantime what do Twitter users out there think of this move? Do you believe this will get more people to hop on board Twitter’s bandwagon and to tweet more relevant things in the future, or do you feel that perhaps it’s a bit too novel to take seriously?

MetroTwit is the Perfect Twitter Client for Windows

This article was written on May 06, 2011 by CyberNet.

    Windows twitter

There are plenty of Twitter clients out there for all of the different desktop platforms, but it seems like many of them are powered by Adobe Air since it provides a no-hassle cross-platform solution to developers. I always prefer native apps though, and MetroTwit is a shining example of how smooth a native Twitter client can be. It has a beautiful interface, all of the right features, and continues to get better over time.

One of the features that was just added last week was an in-app media viewer for third-party sites like YouTube and TwitPic. I hate apps that open images or videos in a browser window because it can really disrupt you while you’re reading through your timeline. Now that they’ve added this feature I really feel as though MetroTwit has earned its spot as one of the best (if not the best) Twitter client available for Windows.

If you haven’t already tried out MetroTwit here’s a look at some of the other features that makes it so great:

    • Drag-and-drop image uploads
    • Uses TwitLonger if you go over the character limit
    • View entire conversations
    • Infinite scrolling of tweets
    • URL shortening and previews
    • Autocomplete for usernames and hashtags
    • Windows 7 taskbar integration
    • Customize the appearance with themes
    • Notifications
    • Resizable columns

The cherry on top is that MetroTwit is completely free. They did throw in some ads to try and recoup some of the costs, but they removed them after they got some feedback from their users. It’s possible that they will introduce the ads again in the future to keep the app free, but I’m sure at that point they’ll also provide some way to remove them (which may be in the form of a small fee).
