Twitter Has New Targeted Advertising Which Learns From Your Browsing History

Twitter Has New Targeted Advertising Which Learns From Your Browsing History“You are what you browse” might just be Twitter’s new mantra, as the micro blogging and social media platform is looking for a new way to deliver ads which are relevant and not be a pest to your mobile experience. Basically, after going through a few months of testing, Twitter has announced the global availability of tailored audiences, which happens to be a spanking new method for advertisers to define your very own groups of existing and potential customers, all the while being able to hook up with them on Twitter using relevant messages that will not be treated with contempt, like spam.

This is made possible through your browsing history. For instance, a hotel brand intends to advertise a promotion on Twitter, and would only want to target their ads at those who have already dropped by their website. This hotel brand could then share with Twitter browser-related information (browser cookie ID) via an ads partner, where such information will be matched to Twitter accounts so that a Promoted Tweet with the relevant travel deal will show up. Do you think that such targeted ads would still be tastefully received, or will it be seen as an annoyance of sorts in the long run? Only time will be able to tell. [Press Release]

Twitter’s Little Experiments to Get Everyone Talking

Twitter’s Little Experiments to Get Everyone Talking

There’s been a steady drumbeat of rumors that Twitter is getting into messaging. But after playing with two different experimental builds for a bit, I think it might be more accurate to say it’s getting into conversations.

Samsung Galaxy viral campaign runs into snafu when star player tweets from iPhone

It’s a song that has been sung before — a popular person, hired by a company to promote its products, inadvertently uses a competitor’s device in a public way. Such was the case with Alicia Keys earlier this year, for example, when she tweeted from an iPhone while promoting BlackBerry. Bound to afflict anyone who […]

Apple Acquires Topsy, A Twitter Analytics Company

Apple Acquires Topsy, A Twitter Analytics CompanyWhile there are some Apple executives, such as Phil Schiller, who are pretty active on social media such as Twitter, Apple as a company isn’t. Facebook and Twitter posts are rarely seen from the Cupertino company, which is why it is a little odd that Apple would acquire a company that specializes in Twitter analytics. According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple has recently bought Topsy, a San Francisco-based company that managed to net about $200 million in the deal with Apple.

Like we said given Apple’s absence from social media, it is unclear as to what they might do with Topsy. However there are some who speculate that perhaps it could be used in conjunction with iTunes Radio. For example Topsy could scan for songs or artists that are trending on Twitter at the moment and use it to alert iTunes Radio users about said artist, allowing users to tune in to see what the fuss is about, and maybe even buy their songs/albums from iTunes if it works out for them. It has also been suggested that Topsy’s expertise in social marketing could be used to help Apple beef up its iAds and perhaps sell even more to customers.

Apple acquires Topsy Labs Inc for Twitter analytics

Apple would appear to be readying themselves for a full-on Twitter analyzation push if today’s suggestion that they’ve acquired Topsy Labs Inc is true. Apple’s own Tim Cook joined Twitter earlier this year while Twitter itself went public just weeks ago, turning in to a publically-traded company and eschewing forth changes that will forever reflect […]

Budweiser’s Knitbot Will Knit Christmas Sweaters Based On Tweets

Christmas sweaters have gotten a rather bad rep for being ugly and otherwise rather corny, despite their well intentions to keep its wearer warm during the festive season, but it seems that despite the bad rep, it has not stopped companies from producing them and over in the UK, beer company Budweiser has launched a #Jumper4des campaign where the more times the hashtags are tweeted, the more jumpers will be made via the Knitbot machine, which is a machine powered by Twitter mentions.

The idea behind #Jumper4des is basically to give a shout-out to designated drivers who elect to stay sober during the holiday season in a bid to drive their drunk family and/or friends home after a wild night of celebration. The jumpers are of the red and white variety and will feature the typical Christmas motifs, such as snowflake patterns. It will also sport a message which reads, “Merry Christmas! Celebrate responsibly” across the chest, and of course there will also be Budweiser’s logo sewn onto it as well. This campaign will run until the 6th of December and Budweiser UK’s Facebook page is also giving fans a chance to win one of these sweaters.
