Turkey And Twitter Have Not Arrived At Any Tax Deal Yet

Turkey And Twitter Have Not Arrived At Any Tax Deal YetTurkey and Twitter has had a roller coaster relationship in the past month, with the government there laying the banhammer on Twitter, before it was asked to unblock the service. What is the latest development on the situation? Twitter will apparently close some accounts in Turkey, and they will not set up an office there at the moment despite the government wishing otherwise, at least according to a senior Turkish official after they conducted talks that concerned a dispute which saw the Turkish government ban Twitter for a fortnight.

Twitter was not the only victim to fall under Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan’s government last month, as YouTube too, was in the same boat as Twitter. That move drew international condemnation, and it was 11 days ago that the Twitter block was lifted, although YouTube remains blocked in that part of the world. Several accounts that Turkey was not too happy with will be closed, and it remains to be seen whether Twitter would open an office tehre, or fork out money for Turkish tax, which happens to be two main requests from the Turkish government.

The Turkish government official shared, “The two sides understood each other fully after the presentations, and a decision was made to establish a system for cooperation in the future. Some accounts will be closed. At this stage Twitter will not immediately establish a company but the necessary communication will be established via lawyers in Istanbul.”

American Airlines Receives Additional Bomb Threats After Dutch Girl’s Arrest

American Airlines Receives Additional Bomb Threats After Dutch Girl’s ArrestEarlier today, we brought you word that a 14-year old Dutch girl who sent a mock threat over Twitter that she intends to bomb an American Airline plane, was subsequently arrested since such threats were not meant to be taken lightly. It makes perfect sense actually, but after doing so, it seemed that the situation has deteriorated from a security point of view – apparently more bomb threats from Twitter users started to appear, targeting American Airlines, of course.

A number of tweets that were posted were in the same vein as that which got the 14-year-old Dutch girl arrested. I guess the authorities figured out that an arrest would let the world know that they will not tolerate such poor attempts at humor, and hoped that this would be a deterrent. The opposite seemed to have happened though, and apart from American Airlines, the unrelated airline Southwest too, happened to be one of those who were affected. I guess no matter how advanced the Internet is, there is no filter for immaturity of its users.

What do you think should have been the correct decision that American Airlines ought to have taken? Now, if there was a genuine threat, it would be even more difficult for safety officers to see through the “noise” generated by these fake threats. Hopefully no one would take this opportunity to pull something that will launch the world into the next phase of war against terror.

US Airways Tweets Apology To Customer

US Airways Tweets Apology To CustomerHaving the freedom of speech does not absolve anyone of the responsibility of being held accountable for what they say. For instance, a 14-year old Dutch girl who tweeted a mock threat at American Airlines was arrested, and that is certainly a lack of common sense in that teenager. However, adults too, do some silly stuff at times. US Airways, for example, tweeted an extremely graphic image to a customer who complained about their service.

Girl Tweets Mock Threat At American Airlines, Gets Arrested

Girl Tweets Mock Threat At American Airlines, Gets Arrested

Airlines take security very seriously, even more so after 9/11. They certainly don’t take threats lightly, in fact, they report them to the FBI. That’s what American Airlines did when a 14-year old Dutch Twitter user fired a tweet to AA’s account, claiming she was from Afghanistan, a part of “Al Qaida” and that on “June 1st I’m gonna do something really big.” AA’s account promptly replied that they take these threats very seriously, and that her IP address and details would be forwarded to security and the FBI.

“Ellen Seflie” Now A Painting At Twitter HQ

“Ellen Seflie” Now A Painting At Twitter HQThe word “seflie” had its best moment last year, ending up as the Word of the Year, at least according to Oxford Dictionaries. Since then, there were also some downs (such as the act of capturing selfies being associated with a mental disorder), despite the fact that this Ellen selfie snapped at this year’s Oscars ended up being the most tweeted photo to date. Well, what a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 captured for posterity has been transformed into a painting, and it has been hung over at the Twitter headquarters.
