Twitter Launches Custom Timelines

Twitter Launches Custom Timelines

Twitter, the world’s second largest social network behind Facebook, has launched a new feature today called custom timelines. Users will have the ability to name their custom timelines and add tweets to it, so basically they’ll have a separate timeline that they curate which only displays tweets related to a particular topic or hashtag. These timelines can be embedded on websites and can be easily shared with others as they’ll be public and will have their own page on twitter.com.

The feature will definitely make it easier to follow topics or events in real-time, related tweets will be displayed in an entirely different timeline and users won’t have to comb through their main Twitter timeline to locate them. This goes beyond the existing lists feature by offering more customization and sharing options. Twitter will allow developers to tap into custom timelines through the new API beta it announced today. TweetDeck will be the first app to incorporate this new feature, users can create custom timelines within the app and simply drag and drop tweets from the other columns to populate them. The feature will be rolled out to TweetDeck for web, Chrome and PC over the next few days, while it will be “coming soon” to the Mac app.

Twitter Data Consumption Problem For Windows Phone Fixed

Twitter Data Consumption Problem For Windows Phone FixedThe other day we reported that for some reason or the other, Twitter for Windows Phone had started to consume way more data than was necessary. This was due to the app constantly pulling profile images from Twitter’s servers, causing the app to use more data than was required or normal, and according to some reports, there were users who actually managed to hit 3GB of data within a week which is definitely not normal, at least not as far as the average user is concerned.

Well the good news is that Microsoft has since addressed the issue, issuing a statement claiming, “Microsoft has confirmed, on November 10th, that the temporary issue is now resolved.” Prior to the fix, what Microsoft had done to temporary halt the unnecessary data usage was to sync Twitter accounts to the device only once a day, which in theory should have stopped excess data from being used. The alternative would be to remove your account from the phone entirely which might be a big no-on for heavy tweeters. In any case hopefully this will resolve the issue, but if you’re still a little paranoid, you can always check on your data usage to make sure that things are indeed back to normal.

Twitter Sees 500,000 Job Postings Published A Month, Expected To Rise To 2 Million

Twitter Sees 500,000 Job Postings Published A Month, Expected To Rise To 2 MillionLinkedIn is considered by many to be one of the social networks that professionals turn to for job recruitment purposes as well as networking with other professionals for other reasons, but it seems that Twitter is giving LinkedIn a run for its money as recent stats have shown that job ads posted on Twitter have been on a rise. This is according to recruiting company, Gozaik, who has found that on average, there have been about 500,000 job postings posted on Twitter on a monthly basis, with job postings for sales positions being the most popular at 25% of the tweets, followed by IT and other technology jobs, and surprisingly even medical/dental listings account for 15% of those tweets.

Speaking  to the folks at VentureBeat, Gozaik’s co-founder, Joe Budzienski says, “They are recruiting surgeons on Twitter and top-notch oncologists — many roles you don’t even see on LinkedIn […] There are a lot of professionals on Twitter who blog and tweet about the medical field, so therefore you get lots of announcements coming out in the hopes that these individuals will see them.” At the rate this is going, Gozaik estimates that it shouldn’t be too long before these job postings on Twitter will hit 2 million posts a month! Assuming this happens, we expect Twitter will soon start to leverage this rise in popularity and perhaps help make a way to allow people to search and post jobs more effectively.
