Twitter Ban Lifted By Turkish Courts

Twitter Ban Lifted By Turkish CourtsAbout a week ago, the Turkish government announced that they would be banning the use of Twitter in the country. Naturally this led to an outcry not just from Turkey’s citizens, but from those around the world as well who felt that the move was a little oppressive.

However thankfully not only did Twitter show Turkish users how to continue to tweet, but within Turkey itself, citizens were sharing tips and techniques on how to get around the ban, namely by using Google’s DNS or by installing VPNs. This led to a spike in VPN downloads in Turkey over the weekend that the social network was banned. (more…)

Tweets Start To Disappear, Twitter Aware Of It

Tweets Start To Disappear, Twitter Aware Of ItNow this is something that even the great David Copperfield is unable to pull off – to make tweets disappear, including the most retweeted tweet of all-time. Twitter users began to ask themselves as of late this afternoon concerning the mysteriously disappearing tweets. Among the tweets that have “fallen” to such a phenomenon, they include actor Cory Monteith’s last tweet before his death, as well as Ellen DeGeneres’ viral selfie that actually racked up over 3.4 million retweets at one point.

Twitter Could Help Track Flu Across NYC

Twitter Could Help Track Flu Across NYCTwitter has entered the spotlight over the weekend due to Turkey’s ban on the service recently, but this time around, here is some news on Twitter that might help lighten your mood. I am referring the Twitter being analyzed by a software to figure out just how far a particular “season” of influenza has spread within a locality. Turkey’s Twitter Ban Sees Spike In VPN Downloads

Turkeys Twitter Ban Sees Spike In VPN DownloadsA couple of days ago, the Turkish government decided to ban its citizens and those living within its borders from using Twitter. Unfortunately this had to be one of the worst bans put into effect because not only did Twitter themselves offer up a solution to Turkish residents, but it seems that the ban did anything but lessen the amount of tweets sent.

In fact according to the numbers, the ban actually saw an increase of tweets from Turkey rise by 138%. At the same time the ban also led to the rush of people downloading VPNs, such as Hotspot Shield which saw a total of 270,000 downloads from Turkish users within 12 hours. (more…)

    Twitter #Music Bites The Dust

    Twitter #Music Bites The Dust

Twitter #Music has been around for over a year. It never really took off after its launch, which came as a result of We Are Hunted’s acquisition by Twitter back in 2012. The team behind We Are Hunted built Twitter #Music as a service that provide users with an entirely new method for music discovery, based on what music and artists were generating the most buzz on Twitter. Active development on the iOS app has been halted for months, and today it was officially announced that Twitter #Music will no longer be available on the App Store.

Twitter Experiments With View Counts To Drive Engagement

Twitter Experiments With View Counts To Drive Engagement

We often hear about Twitter experimenting with new features, though not all of them necessarily make the cut. These days its experimenting with view counts which basically tells users how many people saw a particular tweet. This feature is similar to page views or post views on a Facebook page. Previously such stats were only shown to advertisers, so this is the first time that view counts are actually being opened up to the public.
