Assassin’s Creed: Pirates launches for phones and tablets on December 5th

Sure, it’s not the first Assassin’s Creed title to make it to mobile, but hey, it’s the first one with pirates to hit your handset. On December 5th, you’ll be able to download Assassin’s Creed: Pirates on Android and iOS for $5. You’ll be playing as captain, naturally, commanding a pirate ship and combatting with other vessels while looking for buried treasure. It will also feature characters from Ubisoft’s other pirate-themed title, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. According to the game developer, the title uses a new 3D graphics engine made specifically for phones and tablets — don’t expect a PC or console-compatible version. While you’ll have to wait till next week to start playing, you can watch the trailer here now.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag for PC Review

In Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag you’ve got a game that can be wholly enjoyed by a hardcore fan of the series just as well as a newcomer. Here you’ve got the roots of the beast in assassin’s hood and the feined interest in surprising and sneaking around at the same time as you’ve got […]

Modern Day Assassin’s Creed Will Not Happen Anytime Soon

Modern Day Assassins Creed Will Not Happen Anytime SoonUbisoft’s Assassin’s Creed has typically been set in a historical setting, even though the game is decidedly modern (Assassin’s Creed players know what I’m talking about), but have you ever wondered if Ubisoft would eventually develop an Assassin’s Creed title that would bring it to the modern world? Perhaps it would be cool to see Assassin’s running along the rooftops of today’s buildings and fight modern enemies, but unfortunately if that sounds like an Assassin’s Creed title you’d love to get your hands on, it will not be happening anytime soon. This is according to Assassin’s Creed 4’s lead writer, Darby McDevitt in a Reddit AMA session.

According to McDevitt, “I doubt we would do a modern day AC […] There are just too many mechanics we would have to develop to make it believeable [sic] … vehicles, plausible modern cities, a huge array of ranged weapons, etc. The modern day will most likely remain as a “context” for all future games, something to tie them all together.” While McDevitt does not completely discount the idea, it just will not be happening anytime soon, but like he said, perhaps towards the end to act as a culmination of all the Assassin’s Creed stories to tie things up, but what do you guys think? Would you like to see a modern day Assassin’s Creed?

Ubisoft Uplay Passport Is Dead: Online Gaming for All!

Like most gamers, I have a love-hate relationship with game publishers. I love that they bring cool games market for us to enjoy, but hate the often idiotic ways they try and prevent piracy and secondhand video game sales. One of the most irritating ways that game publishers like Ubisoft try to squeeze money out of gamers who purchase a used video game was by requiring them to purchase an online pass to play any multiple player aspect of the game.

These games come with an online code when purchased new, but that code is only good for one console. That means if you take the game to a friend’s house or give it away, the second owner can’t play it online without spending money. Ubisoft has now announced that its Uplay Passport online pass system is no more.

The game publisher has eliminated that online passport on all of its future games including the soon to launch Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag. That means these games will be playable online even if you buy them secondhand. I’m not a big supporter of secondhand video game sales mostly because for an extra few bucks, I’d rather buy new. I’ve sold use games to places like GameStop before so I know what little money they actually give you for the games to turn around and sell them at a very small discount compared to a brand-new version.

Ubisoft said, “The Uplay Passport program was initiated as a means of giving customers full access and support for online multiplayer and features, along with exclusive content, bonuses, and rewards,” Ubisoft said in a statement.

“However, games today are blurring the line between offline and online, between what is ‘single-player’ and what is ‘multiplayer,’” the statement continues. “Based on that and on the feedback we received from you, we recognized that Passport is no longer the best approach for ensuring that all our customers have the best possible experience with all facets of our games.”

I say good riddance to all such systems.

Ubisoft kills Uplay Passport for future games

Ubisoft announced that it is making changes to some of its future games by dropping the Uplay Passport online pass system previously required to give gamers access and support online multiple player features in the company’s games. Ubisoft will also be eliminating the need for those online passes for Assassins Creed IV Black Flag. Is […]

South Park: The Stick Of Truth Delayed Until March 2014

A little over a month ago, Ubisoft announced South Park: The Stick of Truth would be in the hands of Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC gamers on December 10. This left much rejoicing considering how long it’s taken the game to be released as it was first announced back in 2011 and was originally set to be released back in 2012. Well – my friends. You’ll unfortunately be waiting a little bit longer for South Park: The Stick of Truth as Ubisoft has announced the game will now be released on March 6, 2014. (more…)

Ubisoft Removes Online System Pass From Assassin’s Creed 4, Future Games

Ubisoft Removes Online System Pass From Assassins Creed 4, Future Games

There’s no denying gamers have been looking forward to the release of Ubisoft’s next chapter in the Assassin’s Creed saga with Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag for quite some time, and the game released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U just this past week. PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC owners will have to wait just a bit longer for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag to hit their gaming platform of choice. Thankfully, all versions of Assassin’s Creed 4 will no longer require Ubisoft’s online pass system, called Uplay Passport, which would allow any and all players to gain full access to the game.

In the past, online pass systems withheld certain parts of a game in order to make sure those who payed for a used copy of the game would pay extra in order to access those portions. Ubisoft used its Uplay Passport system to restrict access to parts of Assassin’s Creed 4′s single-player campaign, which caused quite a stir in the gaming community. Thankfully, with this week’s move to remove its Uplay Passport system from Assassin’s Creed 4, players can now journey through the world, as well as it’s multiplayer mode, without needing to enter an online pass code.

Hopefully this move will cause other publishers to do the same thing for their respective titles as a world without online pass systems is a world we’re sure all gamers would want to live in.
