A combination of rare, high geomagnetic activity and cloud-free night skies treated many parts of the UK to an amazing aurora demonstration last night. Here are some of the finest photos that got snapped and posted to Twitter.
Landing in a crosswind can be terrifying
It’s not often you see a company take an argument far enough to make a cosmetics line about it, but that’s exactly what’s happened here with Amazon UK and the … Continue reading
If you haven’t heard of Sealand before, it is the site of one of Britain’s Maunsell Naval Sea Forts that were utilized during WWII. This particular one was originally named HM Fort Roughs. The fort’s primary function was to keep tabs on the Germans who were laying mines off the coast of England at the time. The structure itself was built on top of barge, which was then towed out to the present day location and sunk. Within about 30 minutes of the barge settling on the ocean floor, the crew of about 100 soldiers had it up and running. (The fort itself can accommodate up to about 300 people.)
A team of architects has updated and fleshed out its SkyCycle plan—a bizarre concept that would use the empty channels above some train lines to build floating, bike-only cycle superhighways.
How about giving a nerdy Doctor Who fan the ultimate gift this year: hacked access to a BBC server. That was the deal apparently on offer on some "underground" internet sites on Christmas Day, after a hacker allegedly gained access to a BBC server and tried to sell on his access method.

PlayStation 4 and PS Vita bundle now available in the UK, but it’s no bargain
Posted in: Today's ChiliRemember that rumored PlayStation 4 and PS Vita bundle that was due to reach the UK in time for the holidays? It’s now official — if not the discount that some were hoping for. Sony UK head Fergal Gara tells Eurogamer that some stores are carrying the device combo starting today, but it will cost only slightly less than the £500 ($816) you’d pay to get the systems one at a time. Appropriately, a few shops will offer a “soft bundle” that involves regular PS4 and Vita boxes. The kit doesn’t make much financial sense, then, but Gara describes this as a philosophical move that highlights the PS4’s Remote Play feature. To us, the real problem will be supply; when the PS4 is flying off shelves, there may not be many bundles to sell in the first place.
