US Cellular Launches New 4G LTE Router

US Cellular Launches New 4G LTE Router

US Cellular today launched a new 4G router for consumers and small business owners, offering them 4G LTE connectivity. This router would be perfect for customers who aren’t serviced by DSL or cable providers, or simply customers who just don’t want their connection to be limited to one location. One can use the router at home or at the office by simply taking it along with them.

Bear in mind though that this isn’t a portable router, so its not like users will be able to access the 4G LTE network in the car. The router doesn’t have a battery. It is actually a Netgear LG2200D router which has been specially customized for US Cellular. The router is capable of supporting up to 30 Wi-Fi clients as well as four ethernet-connected device through its LAN ports. The two USB ports can be used to share an external drive or a printer with network clients.

Customers will need to sign up for a two year data plan. The router itself costs $99, they will pay for service on top of that. There are a variety of plans available that offer data caps from 300MB up to 75GB, obviously the plan’s cost goes up as the data allowance increases.

Galaxy S5 For Verizon And US Cellular To Get Additional Anti-Theft Features

Galaxy S5 For Verizon And US Cellular To Get Additional Anti Theft FeaturesIt has been suggested in the past that by introducing a kill switch in smartphones, it would potentially save customers a lot of money from having to pay higher insurance premiums and paying money to replace their device.

Unfortunately that bill is currently awaiting action in the Senate but in the meantime, if you’re planning on getting a Samsung Galaxy S5, you might be interested to learn that Samsung will be introducing a couple of security features for both its Verizon and US Cellular models. No word on whether other carriers will be hopping on board but for now, Verizon and US Cellular are the two that have been mentioned.

These security features as “Find My Mobile” and “Reactivation Lock”. If you’re wondering why it sounds familiar, it’s because it resembles Apple’s “Find My iPhone” and “Activation Lock”, both of which are also security features built into the iPhone and iOS devices. In fact, Samsung’s features are more or less the same as well.

Find My Mobile will basically allow users to remotely track a lost/stolen handset with the ability to remotely lock the device as well. It will also alert the person tracking the phone when an unfamiliar SIM card has been inserted into it.  As for Reactivation Lock, it works just like Activation Lock in which it prevents anyone from wiping or resetting the phone without putting in a password first.

According to George Gascón, San Francisco District Attorney, Eric T. Schneiderman, New York Attorney General, “While we are concerned that consumers will need to opt-in to the system, thereby limiting the ubiquity and effectiveness of the solution, the fact that Samsung and these carriers have agreed to work together to make Find My Mobile and Reactivation Lock available sends a strong message that all participants in this industry can indeed work together to make their customers safer.”

US Cellular Galaxy S5 Pre Orders Begin 21st March, Includes $50 Google Play Promotional CodeThe Samsung Galaxy S5 is one of the hottest Android smartphones at the moment. This can probably be attributed to the success of the Galaxy S Android lineup to date, that and the fact that Samsung chose to announce it during MWC instead of later at an event of their own probably helped speed up the process as well.

That being said there are many out there who would be more than willing to put money down for a Galaxy S5 and come 21st of March, you will be able to do so if you plan on being a customer with US Cellular. (more…)

Android 4.4.2 For US Cellular Moto X Could Be Released Soon

Android 4.4.2 For US Cellular Moto X Could Be Released SoonLast we heard, Android 4.4.2 is said to be making its way onto T-Mobile’s Moto X in the near future, and if you’re wondering how soon is that, perhaps the next couple of days could be it. This new rumor is according to an anonymous US Cellular representative who claims that the carrier is ready to push out Android 4.4.2 KitKit to its own Moto X handsets in the US. Of course given that this roll out is for US Cellular customers only, we can’t speak for the availability of Android 4.4.2 KitKat for other carriers, but presumably they should be rolling out, at least that’s what the rumors seem to suggest.

Those of you who own a US Cellular Moto X, you will be able to check for the updates by going to your phone’s Settings, About Device, and Check for Updates to scan manually to see if there are any updates to be had. Of course we expect the updates will be rolled out in phases so even if your friend gets theirs first, don’t worry as we expect that yours should not be too far behind. In any case we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the US Cellular Moto X, but in the meantime take it with a grain of salt for now and try not to get your hopes up just yet.

US Cellular Announces Availability Of Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini For $50

US Cellular Announces Availability Of Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini For $50If you’re planning on picking up a new phone for yourself and you’re a little tight on money, you might be interested to learn that US Cellular has announced the availability of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini on contract for $50, but like we said this is on contract which means that you will be tied to the carrier for the next two years. Alternatively the carrier is also offering the handset off-contract, but for $500 for a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini? Doesn’t really seem too worth it, doesn’t it?

For those who might have forgotten, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is essentially a lower specced version of the Samsung Galaxy S4, but keeps its design and comes in a smaller package. It forgoes the 5” Full HD 1080p display in favor of a smaller 4.3” qHD display instead. It will be packing a dual-core chipset clocked at 1.7GHz, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 1.9MP front-facing camera, and will come in a variety of colors and will also play nicely with 4G LTE networks. It’s definitely not the most powerful phone we’ve seen from Samsung, but we reckon it should be more than enough to get the basic stuff done, so if you’re not after anything too fancy, this should do the trick. So, any takers?

US Cellular’s Samsung Galaxy S4 To Receive Android 4.3 Update This Friday

US Cellulars Samsung Galaxy S4 To Receive Android 4.3 Update This FridayHeads up Samsung Galaxy S4 users, if you’re a subscriber of US Cellular’s services, you might be interested to learn  that according to a leaked schedule obtained by the folks at Android Police, it seems that you guys can look forward to the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for your devices come 8th of November, assuming that nothing happens from now until then that could potentially delay the update. In fact the leaked schedule (pictured above) states that the update should begin rolling out starting from 9AM in the morning, but presumably it will be a staggered roll out so fret not if the time rolls around and you have not received the update yet.

We’re sure Samsung Galaxy S4 owners would much rather receive the Android 4.4 KitKat update, but we guess Android 4.3 Jelly Bean should be better than nothing, or at least it’s something to tide you guys over until Samsung and US Cellular manage to roll out the Android 4.4 update to you guys, which we have no idea when that will be taking place. The Android 4.3 Jelly Bean build R970TYURMJA will add support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, improve performance and display quality, add new camera and TouchWiz features, functionality, and more.
