The folks over at Toshiba must be on to a good thing here – they have just announced an adapter which will be able to play nice with the TransferJet close proximity wireless transfer technology, and not only that, this particular adapter will also feature an USB 2.0 interface that makes it compatible with a whole lot more devices. This particular adapter is already on sale in Japan at various electronics retail stores, and will arrive in a couple of models – one with a Micro-B-type connector that is more often than not found in modern day smartphones, while the other happens to be a Type A connector that is commonly used when it comes to the world of personal computers. Either way, folks using both devices are more than used to seeing either one of them in action.

Toshiba has big plans for this particular adapter, where they hope to use it when it comes to exchanging image and video files between a smartphone and a personal computer, not to mention the ability to do so between a couple of smartphones to boot. Toshiba is also mulling over the very real possibility of using it when it comes to kiosk terminals, so that interested parties will be able to purchase video files at such kiosk terminals, as well as transferring such image files to printers sometime down the road.

So far, no manufacturer’s suggested retail price has been put forward, although there has been speculation going around that the expected retail prices of the Micro-B and Type A models happen to be ¥4,000 to ¥5,000 (approximately $38 to $48, respectively, and you will also be able to pick them up as a set from ¥8,000 to ¥9,000. We are all for a greater level of connectivity between devices, and just so you have an idea on how speedy file transfer speeds are with TransferJet, we are looking at a maximum transfer rate is 560Mbps (effective transfer rate: 375Mbps) over a range of 3cm, now how about that?

I am quite sure that many of us have attended our fair share of trade shows and conferences over the years that we have amassed quite a collection of USB flash drives in our homes, so much so that these have become not valuable at all compared to the early days when a 32MB USB flash drive was all the rage, and hitting 1GB was like, “Whoa!”. Well, we just love the way that technology progresses over time, and here we are with the Kingston HyperX PREDATOR which offers a whopping 1TB of storage space, and fret not about spending huge amounts of time whenever you transfer data to and from it, as it will feature USB 3.0 connectivity to get the job done as fast as possible.

Having the Kingston HyperX PREDATOR around is definitely a boon, especially for those of you who do plenty of traveling and yet need to carry a portable hard drive around. The physical dimension of it is extremely small compared to even the smallest 2.5” portable hard drive around, although the latter has now achieved the 2TB capacity mark. It really depends on what you want to sacrifice – size or price?

Basically, the HyperX PREDATOR 1TB USB 3.0 flash drive performed as well as its smaller capacity brethren in most of the tests, but there is one major drawback to it. The thickness happens to make it nigh impossible to use normally just like a standard issue USB flash drive, even more so when you want to hook it up to a USB port that is located at the back of your notebook, and this is where the bundled USB 3.0 extension cable comes in handy. Another major talking point (negative one, unfortunately) would be the humongous price tag, as the 1TB model retails for $1,306.63 on Amazon.com. Imagine the number of portable hard drives you can purchase with that kind of money!

There are some Android devices, like the Nexus 5, which do not feature a removable backplate, which also signals that it will not accept microSD cards, meaning that you will need to decide carefully if 16GB is enough for you, if not you would have to go with the 32GB model. Well the good news for Android users who either have devices that do not support microSD, or who are running low on space, Sony has announced its first dual micro USB flash drive. Basically what the micro USB flash drive does is that it connects to the Android smartphone via the micro USB port at the bottom which is also used for charging.

Users will also need to download a specialized app to make use of the USB drive, and will need to run at least Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich of higher. It will also contain a full-sized USB 2.0 port in which users can then transfer the data from their phones to their computers without having to bring along a cable. The good news is that unlike the i-Flashdrive which is priced pretty high, Sony’s offering is rather affordable at $19.99 for the 8GB model, $29.99 for the 16GB model, and $62.99 for the 32GB model, with the latter model being the most expensive, although we’re not sure what’s with the huge jump in price!

Sony expects that these USB flash drives will be available via the Sony store come January 2014.
