TripSaver Helps You Stay on Budget While Traveling

I love traveling. Who doesn’t? What I don’t love as much, though, is how I usually go over the budget that I had initially set for myself. Apparently, this is a pretty common problem that most of my travel buddies share.

It’s easy to forget (or ignore) your budget when you’re out and about in a new city. Where can I buy this? Where else can I experience this?, you might think, before handing over your credit card. The full extent of how much you spent usually hits you when you’re back home.

Don’t let this happen to you again. It’s easy to get sidetracked when you’re on vacation, but a tool called TripSaver might just be the thing you need to budget better.

tripsaver app

It’s essentially a travel expense tracker that features a neat and easy-to-use layout. I especially like the counter that shows just how far or how close you already are to spending your daily limit.

All you have to do is fire the app up and enter any expenses you incurred throughout the day. The app draws up attractive pie and bar graphs of your spending so you can gauge your spending quickly and easily.

The TripSaver app is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of $1 gives you access to the app before its release (and at half of its $1.99 retail price). TripSaver has already surpassed its funding goal, so it should definitely be released.

What Traveling to Every Country in the World Looks Like in 4 Minutes

This is insane. Well, only insane because I’m insanely jealous of amazing world crusader Graham Hughes. Hughes traveled to all 201 countries in the world plus 15 assorted territories without even flying. Even better, Hughes recorded a quick video of every single country he visited so we can all see what it’s like to truly travel the entire world in 4 minutes.

This Lost Underwater Camera Was Incredibly Reunited with Its Owner After Six Years

Back in 2007, Lindy Scallan went to Hawaii for a vacation and took her camera along. After putting the camera in its underwater housing, she went scuba diving but unfortunately lost her camera. Thinking it was gone forever, the camera was incredibly found thousands of mile away in Taiwan six years later. The pictures she took from that 2007 vacation are still on the camera. More »

Google Translate app gets weighty update, will translate signs through your smartphone camera

Google Translate app adds weighty update, will translate signs

Google’s multi-lingual translation app decided that (online) words were not enough. Beyond digital text, a new update to Translate will let Google’s bots translate what you’re looking at, whether that’s hand-written directions or a sign saying, “wrong way.” Though its not the first time we’ve seen an app that translates text from the camera (not even for Google) the update includes a convenient touch-guided interface that allows you to draw over the text you’d like converted into English — it seemed to master our beginners’ Spanish textbook with ease. The update also adds improvements to its voice translations, with new dialect preferences and improved handwriting recognition for Japanese input. Grab the download before you board that flight abroad this summer — just ensure it’s on a WiFi-only connection once you get there.

Vacations are supposed to be a chance to travel to an exotic locale, enjoy a week of rest and relaxation, and leave your worries behind. Samsung brings out WB100 camera with 26x lens for zoom-loving Brits

Samsung brings out WB100 camera with 26x lens for zoomloving Brits

Samsung has been quiet on the superzoom camera front, but it’s leaping back into the fray with the WB100. The camera doesn’t have the longest zoom we’ve seen, but with a 26x lens and a wide-angle 22.3mm minimum zoom, odds are that just about anything you come across during vacation will fit into the frame. A choice to use AA batteries instead of a lithium-ion pack also emphasizes that focus on travelers. We’re otherwise looking at a very deliberately middle-of-the-road camera with a 16-megapixel sensor, ISO 80 to 1,600 sensitivity (3,200 if you like 3-megapixel photos) and 720p movie making. The company doesn’t have pricing, nor word as to which countries get the WB100 treatment outside of the UK — for now, you’re most likely to see this camera slung around a suntanned British neck in Ibiza.
