Sony VAIO Tap 11 Review

Sony knows how to make a good looking tablet. Flush from the success of the XPERIA Tablet Z, the company has borrowed the same slimline aesthetic for a Windows 8 version, the Sony VAIO Tap 11. It’s the thinnest full-Windows tablet around with a proper processor, and still offers a range of input options from […]

Sony VAIO Fit Multi-Flip ultrabooks hands-on

Sony teased a new form-factor laptop for IFA 2013, and the VAIO Fit is just that machine, a Windows 8 ultrabook that converts into a tablet in a way that actually manages to be unique despite all the convertibles we’ve seen before. In fact, it’s a whole family of devices: offered in 13-, 14-, and […]

Sony Vaio Flip: One of the Most Logical Laptop Convertibles Yet

Sony Vaio Flip: One of the Most Logical Laptop Convertibles Yet

Convertibles as a whole aren’t the most sensible thing in the world. At this point, most are still rife with compromises, gimmicks, and odd decisions. Sony’s new Vaio Flip is too, but its gimmick—a screen that folds back on itself—also happens to make a whole lot of sense.

Sony teases flexible VAIO Flip PC origami-style (video)

DNP Vaio Flip PC teaser video

We believe Sony just proved it’s the master of teasing flexible laptops by using a piece of paper and basic origami skills to tout its upcoming VAIO Flip PC. If we understood the clip correctly, the device can take the form of a laptop and a tablet, but its keyboard can also fold beneath the screen to act as a stand. Sound familiar? That’s because Lenovo’s Ideapad Yoga 11S has a similar form — tell us we’re not the only ones who smell competition. If you missed the teaser video when it went up briefly last week, check it out after the jump. You won’t be able to glean info other than the hybrid’s forms from it, but you won’t have to wait long anyway — the Flip PC is slated for an IFA 2013 reveal.

If we understood the clip correctly, the device can take the form of a laptop and a tablet, but it looks like it can flip around for use in a third position as well. Sound familiar? Sony VAIO Laptop-Tablet Hybrid Launch At IFA 2013 Teased

The IFA 2013 conference takes place next month in Berlin. A lot of interesting announcements are expected to come out from the conference. It appears that Sony will be officially launching a new VAIO product based on the laptop-tablet hybrid form factor. The company has posted a short teaser video online which shows a piece of paper being folded into various orientations such as a laptop and a tablet.

At the IFA conference last year Sony launched the VAIO Duo 11. Its an 11 inch ultrabook which can also be used as a bulky tablet as the screen can be slid down to cover the entire keyboard. Based on this history, one can speculate that Sony will launch a similar hybrid product, even if the teaser isn’t immediately clear about the product that Sony intends to launch next month. The teaser video ends with “It all begins with one line,” and the Sony and VAIO branding gets sketched by hand on the folded piece of paper. Ubergizmo will be at IFA 2013 next month, we’ll bring you all of the updates from the conference. Other exciting products expected to be announced at the conference include Samsung Galaxy Note 3 as well as the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

Sony has quietly released a new teaser video for an upcoming VAIO, set to be launched officially at >IFA 2013 next month, and apparently using the hybrid tablet/laptop form-factor. Sony Vaio Pro Review: Climbing a Steeper Grading Curve

Sony Vaio Pro Review: Climbing a Steeper Grading Curve

There is no joy in the Sony Vaio Pro. For a laptop that is, in substance, elegant and powerful, that’s strange. It’s pretty and sleek and slim, but somehow with none of the joie de vivre that typically comes along with that.

Sony VAIO Red Fit 15, Pro 13, and Duo 13 slider get official (and officially bright)

Earlier this year – back on the 11th of June, to be specific – a bit of a preview of the Sony VAIO Red edition notebooks was sent out to tease the world. Today Sony makes it official with images of the Red versions of three of their top-tier portable lines. That’s the Sony VAIO […]

Sony’s special edition red laptops coming to the US, prices start at $2,000

Sony's special edition red laptops coming to the US, prices start at $2,000

Earlier this summer, Sony took its new laptops and put out special-edition versions with a glossy Ferrari-red finish. At the time, those machines were only available in Japan and Europe, but now Sony’s US division is getting in on the action too, with a limited quantity going on sale today here in the states. All told, the line includes the Fit 15, the Pro 13 and the Duo 13 slider (read: about half of Sony’s total notebook lineup). What’s interesting is that although the color is the same from one model to another, Sony had to change up the painting process and pigment combinations depending on whether the machine was made of carbon fiber, aluminum or some other material. Either way, they each have a UV coating on top (sort of the equivalent of a manicure topcoat), so presumably that fancy paint job won’t chip as soon as you take your PC out of the box.

Spec-wise, your mileage will vary depending on whether you get a Fit mainstream laptop or a Pro-series Ultrabook. In brief, though, they all come with Core i7 processors and 1080p touchscreens, except the Fit 15 has 12GB of RAM, a 2GB GPU, Blu-ray drive and 256GB SSD, whereas the two smaller models have eight gigs of memory and 512GB SSDs. At any rate, we hope you really, really like red: the Fit 15 goes for $2,000, the Pro 13 for $2,600 and the Duo 13 for $3,000. Congrats on that disposable income, folks!
