Verizon Confirms Paperless Billing by Mailing Four. Paper. Letters.

When Dan Rosen tired of receiving his Verizon bill by mail, he did what any eco-aware smartphone owner would: switch to paperless billing. To celebrate Dan’s choice to reduce waste, the carrier sent him a paper letter. Four of them, actually. All identical. On the same day.

Verizon Galaxy Note 3 OTA Update Rolling Out

Verizon Galaxy Note 3 OTA Update Rolling Out

Verizon today started rolling out an OTA update for its variant of the Galaxy Note 3, however there isn’t much cause for celebration as the update doesn’t bring Android 4.4 KitKat. Google’s latest mobile OS version is still not available for the popular phablet, it may take quite a few weeks before it is ultimately released. Today’s update deals with bug fixes and performance improvements, it also brings with it a substantial amount of bloatware, the apps that the carrier thinks its absolutely necessary for you to have on your device.

This update will bring the Verizon Cloud, My InfoZone widget, VMware and Verizon Support & Protection version 2.0. Apart from that, the update also adds an urgent priority notification to voicemail notifications, and also improves connectivity and sound quality. Email sync, notification panel responsiveness and mobile hotspot have all been improved. Issues plaguing handwriting data entry for email and SMS, as well as Samsung keyboard have also been resolved. Incoming calls will now display Picture Me on screen where users are using call waiting. These nifty little tweaks and the new bloatware is all that makes up Verizon’s latest OTA update for Galaxy Note 3. It will be released over-the-air, so an update notification should pop up on your device if it hasn’t already.

Verizon's LTE Just Got Three Times Faster in a Bunch of Big Cities

Verizon 4G LTE Network Connectivity Improved In Selected Areas

Verizon 4G LTE Network Connectivity Improved In Selected Areas When you choose a mobile carrier, one of the main aspects of that mobile carrier which you would definitely look out for would be the area of coverage. Well, we are pleased to say that as Verizon celebrates the third birthday of its 4G LTE network, and in order to commemorate the occasion, it has given the 4G LTE service a boost via Advanced Wireless Spectrum airwaves. Revealing this detail to GigaOM, Verizon claimed to have improved its LTE network in selected markets throughout the country, relying on the AWS spectrum which it picked up from a hash of cable companies last year so that it can boost the peak speeds as well as capacity of its network.

Verizon Chief Network Officer Nicola Palmer touted that many major cities that dot the east of the Mississippi River, including New York, Chicago, Atlanta and Boston, as well as cities in the western part of the country, such as San Francisco and Los Angeles, would have enjoyed the boost in 4G LTE speeds. For those of you out there who happen to live in the mentioned areas, did you notice anything different about it, or has things remained pretty much the same? The iPhone 5s and 5c, Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Motorola Droid Mini, Ultra and Maxx are some of the devices which are capable of taking advantage of this AWS network.

AT&T And T-Mobile Reportedly Looking To Bid On Verizon’s 700MHz Spectrum

AT&T And T Mobile Reportedly Looking To Bid On Verizons 700MHz SpectrumAT&T and T-Mobile used to have a pretty good working relationship, to the point where AT&T had even announced their plans to acquire T-Mobile and merge both companies into a giant carrier. The deal was met by a lot of opposition and has since fallen through, and it looks like both companies’ relationship had tanked in the process as well. Now it looks like both companies will be competing with each other again, and not just for customers, but for spectrum as well. According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, it has been suggested that both AT&T and T-Mobile will be making a bid for a 700MHz “A block” of spectrum owned by Verizon.

This particular block of spectrum has the ability to send signals over a long distance and is able to do a better job at penetrating buildings, which we guess could be welcome by AT&T and/or T-Mobile customers who find that reception in buildings might not necessarily be ideal. Verizon has expressed interest in selling off the spectrum and stated that they will not be letting it go for anything less than $2.75 billion. It has been suggested that AT&T’s purchase of the spectrum would make more sense since it would play nicely with the carrier’s current network, as opposed to T-Mobile which uses frequencies of 900MHz.

Of course T-Mobile could have other uses for it, but as it stands it is unclear as to what T-Mobile might want to do with it. In any case we’ll have to wait and see what results from this, so check back with us at a later date for the details!

FCC approves Verizon’s massive purchase of Vodafone shares

The FCC has granted Verizon Communications approval to acquire the remainder of Verizon Wireless from UK wireless provider Vodafone. AT&T, Verizon, Sprint To Offer Moto X For $0.01 On Cyber Monday

AT&T, Verizon, Sprint To Offer Moto X For $0.01 On Cyber MondayPlanning on picking up a Moto X handset for yourself? Well we heard that Motorola would be offering a $150 discount on its Moto X handset for those interested in purchasing the device outright as part of its Cyber Monday deals, meaning that its asking price has seen a drop to $349 from $499, and $399 from $549 for the developer edition. Well if you think that the price outright is a tad expensive for your tastes and would like to pay less, and by that we mean a lot less, it seems that AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint will be offering the handset for $0.01 come Cyber Monday, but this means that you would need to sign a new two-year contract with either of the carriers.

No word on how long this deal will last, but we can only assume that it will be applicable until the end of Cyber Monday. The deals are available via Amazon’s website (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint) and will only apply to the black or white model of the Moto X. This means that if you wanted to customize your device, such as get an engraving or get it in different colors via the Moto Maker website, you’d have to pay the regular price on contract which is currently at $99.99, but if you’re not too fussed, $0.01 seems like quite a steal! So, any takers?

White Nokia Lumia 929 For Verizon Leaked

White Nokia Lumia 929 For Verizon LeakedThe Nokia Lumia 929 is definitely not news to us. The handset has been leaked several times in the past, and last we heard it was supposed to be available on Verizon come 21st of November, but given that we’re already in December, well safe to say that date did not pan out. Well thanks to a newly leaked photo, we now have alleged photos of the Nokia Lumia 929 in white and on the back of the handset (as pictured above), it shows Verizon’s logo, still indicating that the handset will be headed for the carrier.

According to the rumors, the Lumia 929 is apparently the slightly smaller version of the Lumia 1520 and will feature a 5” Full HD 1080p display. It will also be accompanied by 32GB of onboard storage along with a 20MP PureView camera and what we can only presume to be a quad-core chipset from Qualcomm. While it is still a mystery as to when the alleged Lumia 929 will make its debut, word has it that a mid-late December release will be more likely. In anyway take it with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll definitely keep our eyes peeled for more info. In the meantime who else is excited at the idea of a smaller Lumia 1520 that might be more manageable with one-handed use?
