Verizon Close To Getting Nexus 7 LTE Certified

Verizon Close To Getting Nexus 7 LTE CertifiedIt was not too long ago when we did mention how the Nexus 7 LTE was more than ready to work on Verizon’s network, but somehow or rather, the thing is not yet available there simply because it has yet to receive the proper certification. Well, here we are now with Verizon Wireless sharing a little bit more on that particular situation, by claiming that the Nexus 7 has already entered its certification process sometime last month, but did not manage to complete the entire slew of relevant testing required for certification. Normally, such a process would require anywhere from four to half a dozen weeks, so in Verizon’s own words, they too, have every single expectation that the new Nexus 7 ought to be certified “shortly.”

The moment that particular milestone is achieved, Verizon has every single plan to work alongside Google so that the Nexus 7 LTE model will eventually be activated on the Verizon network. I do wonder whether it is an oversight of sorts, when Google first announced in July this year that the Nexus 7 will play nice with Verizon’s LTE network, but somehow, did not manage to do so when launched. Nothing quite like some paperwork (or the lack of it) to be a party pooper! [Press Release]

BlackBerry Z30 To Arrive On Verizon

BlackBerry Z30 To Arrive On VerizonAfter weeks and months to leaks and rumor, the BlackBerry Z30 has been finally announced and if you’re wondering where will you be able to pick the device up from, well it looks like Verizon has you covered. This is according to a tweet by Verizon on their Twitter account where they have officially announced the device themselves. Unfortunately Verizon did not mention when exactly will the device be available for purchase, or how much it can be had for, but presumably more information will be released at a later date, but for now we guess Verizon will be the carrier you’ll want to keep your eye on.

As far as the BlackBerry Z30 specs are concerned, if you missed the earlier announcement, the handset will sport a 5” Super AMOLED display, making it BlackBerry’s biggest smartphone to date. It will also pack a quad-core chipset under the hood clocked at 1.7GHz. It will come with BlackBerry Natural Sound to provide stereo audio to the user, a new generation antenna technology, and a somewhat decently sized 2,880mAh battery, and of course it will run on BlackBerry 10. We’re not sure if this will be enough to bring interest back to BlackBerry, but it will definitely sit well with BlackBerry customers who are looking for a phablet experience but with the BlackBerry operating system.

5-6 Million iPhone Units Expected To Be Sold Over The Weekend

5 6 Million iPhone Units Expected To Be Sold Over The WeekendApple typically announces how many phones they’ve managed to sell via pre-order on the first day, a number which has been typically high, but their recent silence has suggested that maybe they did not sell as many iPhone 5c units as predicted. One analyst has predicted that Apple could have sold 2.2 million units of the iPhone 5c, and Piper Jaffray analyst, Gene Munster, has chimed in with his own estimations and has revealed that he expects Apple to sell anywhere between 5-6 million iPhone units during the weekend that the iPhones go up for sale. Verizon speaks out on Nexus 7 LTE activation, expects it will be certified ‘shortly’

Despite the wide LTE support featured on the Nexus 7 2013’s cellular modem-equipped model, early buyers have found Verizon won’t activate it for a new line on the Big Red Network. The company responded officially on the matter today, explaining that its 4 – 6 week certification process must be completed first. The process apparently began in August, and spokesperson Debi Lewis said the company expects that to happen “shortly.” The whole process is actually laid out on Verizon’s website and shows how the testing is undertaken by a third party lab of the manufacturer’s choosing — feel free to read through it during the days / weeks your new Nexus 7 isn’t connecting to LTE.

Verizon Nexus 7 LTE expected “shortly” as 4G testing wraps up

Verizon expects the Nexus 7 LTE to be 4G certified “shortly” after addressing complaints that Google’s Android tablet could not be activated on its network. The carrier blames extensive wireless testing for the delay, claiming to have begun examining the slate back in August. Meanwhile, rival carriers AT&T and T-Mobile USA already support the Nexus […]

Moto X Developer Editions released as Motorola courts coders

Motorola has begun selling the Moto X Developer Edition, its version of the Moto X with an unlocked bootloader that allows Android coders to flirt with different OS versions. Up for sale in Verizon form, with an AT&T/T-Mobile USA version “coming soon”, the $649.99 handset obviously lacks a carrier subsidy but also sacrifices a warranty […]

Moto X Developer Editions Go On Sale For $649.99

Moto X Developer Editions Go On Sale For $649.99

A few days after it unveiled the Moto X smartphone, Motorola filled us up on the Moto X bootloader status. It revealed the few carriers who were offering variants of the smartphone with unlockable bootloaders. Motorola also said that it will offer two Moto X models “just for developers.” Today the company has finally announced the Moto X Developer Editions. The one for Verizon is available for online purchase today, it costs $649.99.

The Developer Edition units come with 32GB of storage as well as the all important unlockable bootloader. There’s also a special color combination for these units, black up front and woven white on the back. There’s also a “stamp of approval” on the back that touts the user’s developer status. A GSM version of the Moto X Developer Edition, which will work on both AT&T and T-Mobile, is going to be available for online purchase on Friday. Sprint subscribers need not worry, the variant their carrier is selling already comes with an unlockable bootloader. An unlocked bootloader allows developers to tinker around with the device’s advanced settings, and even flash a new kernel. Its important for developers who’re creating custom ROMs. Even if you buy a developer edition unit, do keep in mind that unlocking the bootloader will void the warranty.

BlackBerry Z30 coming to Verizon, pricing and availability TBA

BlackBerry Z30 coming to Verizon, pricing and availability TBA

It’s hardly the biggest BlackBerry shocker of the day, but at least a few BB 10 fans should be able to breathe a sign of relief at Verizon’s Z30 announcement. That handset, in all its BB 10.2 glory, is indeed coming to Verizon’s LTE network. Pricing and availability remain the key unknowns here, but the Z30, which ships with a 5-inch Super AMOLED display, 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro and a 2,880mAh battery, is indeed on its way, Verizon logo and all.

Moto X Developer Edition for Verizon now available for $650 (update: GSM and Droid Maxx details)

Moto X Developer Edition for Verizon now available for $650 update

If you’ve been pining for the freedom of the Moto X Developer Edition, you can now pick one up. Motorola has started selling the Verizon model for $650; the company also lists a GSM version, although it’s currently out of stock. Regardless of which version you buy, you’ll get the same ROM-friendly unlocked bootloader, 32GB of storage and that unmistakable Developer Edition imprint on the back. That’s a lot to pay for a Moto X that you can’t even customize, but it may be worthwhile if you simply have to tinker with a smartphone made in the USA.

Update: Motorola has since mentioned that the GSM version will be available on Friday; a Droid Maxx Developer Edition is launching today. And if you’re a Sprint customer, you don’t have to worry — your version already has an unlocked bootloader.

Nexus 7 LTE Works On Verizon Only After Certification

Nexus 7 LTE Works On Verizon Only After CertificationI guess this is more or less the rule of thumb these days – it always pays to get the proper certification in place if you want everything to run as smoothly as possible without any hiccups. We are well aware that the upcoming Nexus 7 with LTE support is more than good to go on a couple of mobile carriers in the US – namely T-Mobile and AT&T. Needless to say, there is one particular question that begs to be asked, what about Verizon Wireless? Well, while the Nexus 7 with LTE support is compatible with Verizon’s LTE network on technical grounds, there is one major reason why this particular device has yet to be activated on Verizon, which would be the lack of proper certification.

According to a representative over at Verizon, “This is not yet a device that is Verizon 4G LTE certified. As you know, when devices are certified, we’ll let folks know.” This does seem to point in the general direction that certification for the device will occur sometime down the road, but as to the exact date of this certification being approved remains to be seen. All in all, we do not think that Verizon would want this matter to drag out for too long considering how the Nexus 7 with LTE could be a hot ticket item.
