Kyocera Hydro Elite Arriving On Verizon 29th August

Kyocera Hydro Elite Arriving On Verizon 29th AugustThanks to a leaked Verizon roadmap, a handful of devices have been pegged for a release by the end of August with one of them being the Kyocera Hydro Elite. For those looking for a smartphone with water resistant capabilities, we expect that the Hydro Elite will be right up your alley and sure enough Verizon has announced that the handset will be made available starting on the 29th of August 2013 and will be priced at $99.99 with a two-year contract and a $50 mail-in rebate. The Hydro Elite is not the most powerful Android handset we’ve seen to date, although its key selling point here would be its ruggedness which might have its appeal to those working in demanding environments.

The handset will feature IPX5 and IPX7 certification for both low-pressure water spray and water immersion respectively, and what this means is that according to Kyocera’s website, “Water spray projected at all angles through a half-inch (6.3 millimeters) nozzle at a flow rate of 3.3 gallons (12.5 liters) per minute at a gage pressure of 30kN/m2 for 3 minutes from 3.28 feet (1 meter). Immersible for up to 30 minutes in up to 3.28 feet (1 meter) of water.” Apart from that it will sport wireless charging, NFC capabilities, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 1.3MP front-facign camera, a 4.3” HD display, with Android running the show.

Verizon to launch waterproof Kyocera Hydro Elite on August 29 for $100 (video)

DNP Verizon announces $100 Kyocera Hydro Elite with 43inch HD display, waterproof chassis

Kyocera handsets in the US typically debut on Sprint or smaller carriers like Boost or Cricket, but that doesn’t mean Verizon can’t have a go at devices from the Japanese company. First spied a few months ago, the Kyocera Hydro Elite is one such handheld headed for Big Red, and looks to be a waterproof model much like its Hydro predecessor. Indeed, the Hydro Elite can supposedly be immersed in up to 3.28 feet (1 meter) of water for almost half an hour before calling it quits. Like the Torque, the Hydro Elite also boasts a Smart Sonic Receiver technology that promises outstanding audio quality even in the noisiest environments.

The Hydro Elite is not exactly tiny, measuring 4.82 x 2.38 x 0.43 inches and weighing in at 4.51 ounces. Other notable features include — let’s take a deep breath here — a 4.3-inch HD display, 4G LTE, an 8-megapixel HD cam, a front-facing 1.3-megapixel shooter, Qi wireless charging, NFC, MHL support, DLNA support, a microSD card slot and a 2,100 mAH battery. Phew. If that list of specs sounds scintillating enough to you, you may pick one up at your local Verizon store this Thursday for only $100 after a rebate and a two-year service agreement. For those who need a little more convincing, you can check out a Kyocera-commissioned video after the break starring none other than Man vs. Wild survivalist Bear Grylls.

Moto X Arriving On Verizon 29th August, But Only Available Through Online Store

Moto X Arriving On Verizon 29th August, But Only Available Through Online StoreTrue to their word, it looks like Motorola’s Moto X will be arriving on other carriers “in days”, according to a recent tweet by Verizon which confirms that the handset will be making its way onto the carrier’s network come 29th of August! It will be priced at $199.99 along with a two-year contract but there is a small catch. The catch is that if you want the Moto X, you will need to place an order via Verizon’s website as the handset will not be making its way into Verizon’s retail stores for a couple of weeks, with some speculating that perhaps this might have something to do with Motorola and AT&T’s exclusivity deal.

The other catch, which in case wasn’t already obvious, is that Verizon’s Moto X will only be available in black or white as the Moto Maker feature is also an AT&T exclusive, at least for the next couple of weeks, so that’s something worth taking into consideration. Given that one of the key features of the Moto X would be its customizability, we’re guess that there will be many Verizon owners who might be holding off until the exclusivity period ends, but what do our readers think? Are you guys going to wait it out, or do you not care about the customizability that much?

Verizon Max plan goes live to entice unlimited data users to join Edge

Verizon Max plan goes live to entice unlimited data users to join Edge

August 25th was the day when Verizon customers with an early adopter bent could sign up for Edge, the carrier’s plan that lets them get their hands on the latest and greatest device a lot sooner than those with the usual two-year contract. Though not quite as heavily publicized however, Verizon officially launched the Max promo plan concurrently to encourage those with unlimited plans to make the leap to the new program. Indeed, it appears you can’t keep your unlimited plan and sign up for Edge at the same time.

As confirmed by Droid-Life, when those with a grandfathered unlimited plan attempt to join Edge, they’ll be prompted to swap it out for a Verizon Max plan. The Max offer lets you have either a 6GB cap for $30 or an 8GB plus tethering option for $50. Do note that swapping out your unlimited data plan for Max doesn’t affect your monthly minute and text allotment; those remain as separate line items. We admit we don’t quite see the benefit of giving up your unlimited data for Edge’s more frequent handset upgrades — which come at a higher monthly cost anyway — but if you feel like you really need that shiny new handset right now, head on over to the source to see if it’s worth it.

Moto X for Verizon officially available online August 29th, at stores in the coming weeks

Moto X for Verizon officially available online August 29th, in stores in the coming weeks

If you’ve been eyeing a Motorola device on Verizon without the Droid branding, the Moto X is ultimately your best (and only) choice — but when exactly will it be available to the masses? According to Verizon’s official Twitter account, this Thursday, August 29th will be the day you can grab it online for $200 on-contract. As for stores, the company isn’t willing to give a specific date just yet, so all we’ve been told is that we can expect it in the coming weeks. Still, this will come as good news for Big Red fans who have been patiently awaiting their turn, even if it means early adopters have to settle for a black or white option.

Verizon Edge Program Is Now Live

Verizon Edge Program Is Now Live

About a month back we heard rumors that Verizon was going to launch a new device financing plan. The rumors were then confirmed by the carrier’s CFO during a conference call with investors. Verizon was indeed going to launch a new device financing plan which is called Edge. The company said last month that this plan would go in effect in August, and indeed it has. Starting today Verizon subscribers can sign up for the Edge program. Verizon’s Edge announcement came weeks after T-Mobile started making waves with its Jump! program.

The value of these payments will depend on the price of a device. Verizon will allow Edge subscribers to upgrade their device after six months, though only if half of the retail price of their existing device is paid off. Subscribers will have to trade-in their old device, make sure that 50 percent retail value is paid and then pick up a new device after which they will continue to make 24 equal monthly payments. To sign up for Edge, existing subscribers must be eligible for an upgrade and must have six month of good payment history. New customers must pass a credit check. Verizon Edge isn’t currently eligible for prepaid accounts.

Nokia Windows RT tablet may resemble a Lumia, carry an iPad-like price

Nokia Windows RT tablet reportedly nicknamed Sirius, resembles a Lumia

Nokia’s rumored Windows RT tablet is supposedly nearing launch, and The Verge claims to have more details of the slate beyond those tidbits that surfaced at Digi-Wo last month. Nicknamed Sirius, the finished design is believed to resemble a Lumia phone and weigh significantly less than the current iPad. Despite packing a Snapdragon 800, an outdoor-ready 1080p screen and LTE, the tablet would last a healthy 10 hours on battery. It would also include both 6-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, and Nokia may complement the previously mentioned 32GB of storage with a microSD card slot. Pricing would be competitive with the iPad, according to tipsters. While there’s no way to verify the new rumors, the Sirius may launch at a September 26th event; if it’s real, we’ll find out soon enough.
