Motorola Droid Ultra Limited Edition leaks, touts a go-faster racing stripe

Motorola Droid Ultra Limited Edition leaks, touts 6mm thickness and red racing stripe

If you think a red version of the rumored Droid Ultra just wouldn’t be special enough, you’re in luck. Frequent Motorola device leaker Houdabao claims to have photos of a Limited Edition model that would include a wrap-around racing stripe, much like a decked out muscle car. Unfortunately, there isn’t much more to share. While Houdabao echoes talk of the Droid Ultra sporting a 5-inch LCD and a 6mm thick body, he doesn’t outline the Limited Edition’s full feature set. There’s also no mention of its intended audience — it may be only for Verizon staff, like the red Droid RAZR. Should the special-run Droid Ultra reach the public, though, there’s a chance we’ll learn more about it tomorrow. Check out a second photo of the Limited Edition after the break.

LG VS980 emerges at FCC, could be the Optimus G Pro for Verizon

LG VS980 emerges on the FCC, could be the Optimus G Pro for Verizon

If this recent FCC filing is any indication, it looks like AT&T won’t have US exclusivity over the LG Optimus G Pro for much longer. The document points to a LG VS980 that’s clearly headed for Verizon; it supports the carrier’s LTE bands and the model number is in line with other Verizon LG smartphones like the LG Intuition (VS950). Seeing as the AT&T model is marked as the E980, our Magic 8 Ball says that all signs point to the VS980 being the Big Red version of the Optimus G Pro. So that’d make at least a couple of ways Americans can get their hands on the LG smartphone, which is two more than anyone in the UK.

Verizon Now Offering 500Mbps (Down) Internet Service

File this under batshit crazy. Verizon is now offering a 500/100Mbps service tier where FiOS is available.

Verizon FiOS Quantum outs new 500 Mbps internet tier

It’s been just over a year since Verizon unveiled FiOS Quantum, a new feature in Verizon’s fiber optics offering that allows for even faster download speeds than the company’s initial FiOS service. At the time, they revealed a 300 Mbps service that seemed absolutely insane, but this time around, Verizon has upped the ante even more, with a new 500 Mbps tier.

Verizon says that the new tier gives Verizon the crown of the “fastest internet speeds available in FiOS markets,” which is pretty hard to argue with. Of course, Google’s Fiber is twice as fast, but FiOS isn’t available in those areas. With the new tier, you’ll be able to download files at 500 Mbps and upload files at 100 Mbps.

Verizon says that these kinds of speeds will allow you to download a two-hour, 5GB HD movie in just under a minute and a half, or you’ll be able to upload a file like this to the cloud in only seven minutes. Of course, depending on your location and circumstances, you most likely won’t get speeds that exactly match the speeds that are advertised.

Limited availability for this new tier is available starting today, with certain areas in all FiOS markets equipped for the 500 Mbps tier. However, Verizon hopes to expand the new tier to cover their entire FiOS footprint by the end of the year. The cheapest that you can get the new 500 Mbps service is for a whopping $310 per month if you order double play service, and internet alone will cost you $370 per month.

DROID ULTRA leaks again, racing stripe intact

If you were worried about the legitimacy of the leaked image shown last week depicting the DROID ULTRA complete with bright red stripe down its back, you weren’t alone. What’s appeared today, however, is a lovely bit of leak showing the same unit, this time with a much more photographically sound angle on it – that’s a Limited Edition of the unit if ever we’ve seen one. Here the DROID ULTRA comes out to play for Verizon employees – or the very lucky.

This machine is aimed at being the upgrade of the DROID RAZR HD, the smaller of the two RAZR devices in the carrier’s current Motorola-made smartphone lineup. There’s also the DROID RAZR M, of course, but this is in terms of battery capacity. Here the DROID ULTRA carries what’s almost certainly an upgraded higher-definition display and an expanded bit of ruggedness as well.

This variant of the DROID ULTRA suggests that though both Motorola and Verizon will be going all-in when it comes to the Moto X, they’re still not forgetting their virtual handshake in the DROID brand lineup. This version of the machine could also very easily be the DROID MAXX, the larger of the two full-sized smartphones as far as battery capacity, this based on past iterations of this special edition red stripe – MAXX it’s always been.

This machine – minus the stripe – will quite likely be revealed at the Verizon event coming tomorrow – that’s July 23rd of this month, mind you. Have a peek at the DROID timeline below to catch up on what this reboot of the DROID series means for you and your decisions in Verizon-bound smartphone upgrades soon. Choices await!
