Pantech Perception official for Verizon, delivers motion-aware Android on April 25th

Pantech Perception launches on Verizon April 25th for $100

Unofficial details of the Pantech Perception have been around for long enough for the phone to feel old, but the truth is that it’s only just getting started. The 4.8-inch, mid-tier Android smartphone is at last launching with Verizon on April 25th, and it should cost $100 on contract after subscribers cash in a $50 rebate. It won’t trigger much regret among Galaxy S 4 buyers when it’s carrying a more GS3-like Super AMOLED 720p screen, 16GB of storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front shooter. That said, Pantech does promise an extra level of software savvy: the company’s customized variant of Ice Cream Sandwich (soon to upgrade to Jelly Bean) centers on a Motion Sense suite that lets owners wave their hands to answer calls, switch tracks or navigate contacts and photo galleries. While we can’t say we’re bowled over by that claimed advantage, the Perception may just hit the sweet spot for those who want an alternative to HTC and Samsung for a bigger handset.

Nokia Lumia 928 For Verizon Now Rumored For May Announcement Instead

Nokia Lumia 928 For Verizon Now Rumored For May Announcement InsteadAccording to previous rumors, the Nokia Lumia 928 for Verizon is pegged for a 25th of April announcement, although that may no longer be the case. According to a report from Bloomberg, they are suggesting that the handset will instead see an announcement in May. In any case with the 25th of April only being about a week away from May, we guess this might not be as long as a wait, assuming that the reports are to be believed, of course.

For those who haven’t been keeping up with the rumors, the Lumia 928 for Verizon is expected to be a new smartphone from Nokia, and is apparently a phone that will see the Finnish company deviate from the polycarbonate material that has been present in most of its Lumia series of devices. Leaked images and rumors have suggested a metal body, a 4.5” display, an 8MP, all of which packaged into the device pictured above. Take this with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll definitely keep our eyes peeled.

Verizon security report itemizes annual data breaches

Verizon has published its latest Data Breach Investigations Report, which is released annually and looks at the instances of data breaches that happened over the course of a year. According to the report, 2012 saw 621 data breaches – those that were confirmed, that is – in addition to a much higher approximately 47,000 so-called security incidents. The numbers give us a look at what kind of threats are present, and who is most affected.

Screenshot from 2013-04-22 23:52:09

A data breach is self-explanatory, meaning that information of some sort has been compromised, whether it is employee data or a roster of login information. A security incident, however, is something related that doesn’t quite achieve the “breach” threshold, such as a DDOS attack. According to the breakdown, no one was spared from the cyberattcks, with all sorts of businesses and organizations falling victim.

Small, medium, and large businesses, law enforcement agencies, media companies, financial institutions, commercial websites, organizations, and more all suffered from various security breaches and incidents last year. Out of them, it is said that 76-percent were the result of either stolen or weak usernames/passwords, with the the data being harvested using means ranging from skimmers to malware.

According to the New York Times, Wade Baker, a principal author of the Verizon report, said: “The results validate that any business that operates online is at potential risk of suffering a data breach … the report shows that no matter the size of the organization — large, small, government agencies, banks, restaurants, retailers — people are stealing data from a range of different organizations and it’s a problem everyone has to deal with.”

DNP Engadget's tablet buyer's guide spring 2013 edition

Much like bears, tablet designers are coming out of hibernation: there have been a handful of noteworthy models reaching the wild after a few months of silence. Most of these are the Windows 8- and RT-based tablets that didn’t quite make the cut for the holidays, and we’re launching our 2013 spring tablet buyer’s guide with a dedicated Windows section to accommodate a distinct and rapidly filling category. Just be careful before you commit to a purchase, wherever your allegiances lie: Mobile World Congress brought us tablets that haven’t quite shipped yet, like the FonePad and Galaxy Note 8.0. (We’ve included a heads-up in those situations where waiting a few weeks, or months, may be wisest.) As chaotic as spring can be, our guide might just provide some kind of stability if you’re shopping for your next slate.

Sign Up Page For Verizon Galaxy S4 Is Now Online

Sign Up Page For Verizon Galaxy S4 Is Now Online

Verizon is a little late to the Galaxy S4 party as carriers such as Sprint and T-Mobile have already announced when they’ll be rolling out devices to customers, and AT&T has already started taking pre-orders. Earlier this week Verizon had confirmed via Twitter that it will launch Samsung’s latest flagship Android smartphone in May. Now finally the sign up page for this smartphone is online, prospective customers can submit their email so that Verizon keeps them updated regarding the status of their Galaxy S4 launch.

Verizon is almost a month behind other carriers with the launch but that probably won’t hurt their sales in the long run. The Galaxy S4 will be compatible with its 4G LTE network, which is the country’s largest high speed mobile data network. Verizon hasn’t revealed the pricing details as yet but we can expect it to be in line with that of other carriers. Sprint will begin roll out on the 27th of April and T-Mobile begins just two days from now on 24th of April. So, when and from which network are you getting your Galaxy S4?

Nokia Lumia 928 Rumored For 25th April Announcement

Nokia Lumia 928 Rumored For 25th April AnnouncementWe’ve been hearing about the Nokia Lumia 928 that is expected for a launch on Verizon, with Nokia’s CEO himself confirming that a “new Nokia Lumia” will be launched this quarter, but when exactly will that be? Could we be looking at the very last day of the quarter, towards the middle, etc.? Well according to a recent rumor, we might have ourselves a date to look forward to which is the 25th of April. This is apparently a date tipped off via an anonymous tipster, with he/she going even further and claiming that the handset should be available for purchase either on the 2nd of May or the 9th of May.

Like we said, this is merely a rumor for now but it’s probably the most specific date we have. Take it with a grain of salt, but for those who are excited about the Verizon-exclusive Nokia Lumia 928, the 25th of April is a date you’ll want to mark down on your calendars. We will definitely be keeping an eye out, and with less than a week to the 25th, we guess we won’t have to wait too long to see if this rumor pans out.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Arriving On Verizon This May

Samsung Galaxy S4 Arriving On Verizon This MayWe have seen how different mobile carriers in the US have announced that they will be offering Samsung’s upcoming flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S4, where most of them will hit the respective carriers in the month of April. Take for instance, Sprint with an April 27th rollout, or how about T-Mobile this coming April 24th? US Cellular themselves will be offering the Samsung Galaxy S4, and as part of a deal sweetener, they are throwing in a free S View flip cover. Well, latest official word from Verizon via Twitter would be a May release for the Galaxy S4, which would certainly jive with the recently leaked Staples document that pointed to May 30th as the rollout date for Verizon where the Galaxy S4 is concerned.

The end of May would mean the other mobile carriers would have a one month or so head start over Verizon, but will it really impact sales in the long run? I do not think so, as each mobile carrier has their own set of loyal customers, and sure there will be those who cannot wait and switch carriers, but chances are those numbers will be negligible at best.
