Retro Game of Thrones Video Game: The Pixelated Kingdoms of Westeros

Game of Thrones is a great TV show. I personally feel they leave too much out that was in the books, but it’s pretty awesome nonetheless. Anyway, it’s a great show, but we don’t have any really good Game of Thrones video games. Until now. Abel Alves has built a completely free “8-bit” game, inspired by the TV series. Its graphics look more like 16-bit, but we’ll forgive Abel for his slight misnomer.

game of thrones 8 bit

The game has four levels, and you can play four different characters. It features Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons and other characters that you know and love. It’s a fun game and it is free to download.

Download the game here and you will be glad that you did. Unfortunately, it only runs on Windows PCs, unless you’ve got an emulator of course.

Keep in mind that the game just focuses on key moments in the saga. It is by no means the full story. For instance, you won’t be able to pretend to be a drunken Tyrion Lannister or slap Joffrey across the face. Too bad.

Retro Blade Runner Game: Wake up… Time to Play!

We should have had a Blade Runner game back in the old NES days, but sadly it never showed up. Well, fans of old-school video games and fans of Blade Runner will love this video created by 8-Bit Cinema. Yeah, I know it’s more 16-bit than 8-bit, but it’s the game we should have been able to play, but never got.

16 bit blade runner

Sadly, this isn’t a real game someone created, but just an all-too-brief animation. So, we still have no 8-bit or 16-bit Blade Runner game. All we’ve got is this PC version. Please, someone make this happen. I know that there is some talented person out there somewhere who can do it.

In the meantime, this is a fun video and we can all pretend that we have the cartridge sitting on the shelf.

Google Chrome now lets you Cube Slam your friend’s face

Google has announced the latest in its Chrome Experiments, an in-browser game called Cube Slam that lets you slam a small cube into your friend’s face (or a bear’s face, if you’re so inclined). While this isn’t the first game of this nature we’ve seen, this is arguably one of the most enjoyable, bringing a

DICE says Battlefield 4 game engine won’t run on Nintendo Wii U

One of the most anticipated games for next-generation game consoles comes from DICE. That game is Battlefield 4 and fans of the Nintendo game consoles have received some bad news this week. DICE has announced that the game engine that operates Battlefield 4 won’t run on the Nintendo Wii U game console.

The game engine in question is called Frostbite 3. DICE Technical Director for Frostbite Johan Anderson recently said that no games using the Frostbite 3 engine would work on Nintendo’s latest game console. Anderson said that the Frostbite 3 engine has never been running on a Wii U console.

He also noted that the game developers did some tests with Frostbite 2 and the results weren’t promising. In fact, the results with Frostbite 2 were so poor that the company chose “not to go down that path.” DICE executives had previously said that the company wasn’t interested in devoting development time to Nintendo’s latest game console.

The crux of the reasoning for DICE is that the Nintendo Wii U lacks the power needed to run the company’s high-end game engines. It’s also worth noting that the Unreal Engine 4 won’t officially support the Wii U either. However, that Unreal engine will be able to run scaled-down games on Nintendo’s console. What do you think is it time for Nintendo to give up or launch a truly high-end console?

Gamers will be able to download demo via the Xbox Line Marketplace and the PlayStation Network on May 7. Playing the demo, players will be able to cooperate with up to four other players online. Local players will also be able to fight using a two player screen system. The demo allows players to choose one of four elite operatives to play as.

The operatives include Dalton Brooks, Izzy Sinclair, Jacob Kimble and Naya Deveraux. During game players will attempt to protect the Earth from an alien energy source called Fuse. The energy source was stolen by a paramilitary organization called Raven.

Each of the characters players can take control of has their own unique weapon and specialized skills. The game will launch at the same time for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. While much of the game is centered on cooperative play, there will be single player aspects so gamers can play alone if they want.

Tenor Rupee Ocarina: Play it, Don’t Spend It

If you want a good Ocarina, it can cost you a lot of rupees, but this particular Ocarina happens to resemble a rupee. Pretty sweet. And no pots were smashed to unearth it.

Ocarina

This tenor Rupee ocarina has 6 holes and plays in the C-major key. It measures about 3-inches-long and has a range of 10 notes, including sharps and flats.

I know, it’s pretty cool. What you really want to know is, how much does it cost? That would be $22(USD) and it comes with a neck strap and a fingering chart to help you learn your favorite Zelda songs.

Just be careful you don’t spend it by accident.
