Dream Arcades Vision 32: 140 Classic Games + 32″ Display = 1 Nostalgia Totem

It’s becoming increasingly cheaper to make your own arcade machine, but if you’d rather leave it to the pros check out Dream Arcades’ latest offering, the Vision 32. The machine gets its name from its 32″ LCD display. It’s loaded with 140 classic games, but as an introductory offer Dream Machines is giving away more games and other freebies to early buyers.

The Vision 32 is based on a Windows XP computer with a 3.0GHz Pentium 4 CPU, 1GB RAM, 80GB hard drive, CD-ROM drive and Ethernet port. Its buttons and 2.25″ trackball are backlit. It also has side pinball buttons and a hidden keyboard shelf. Dream Arcades didn’t specify the resolution of the display, only that it’s high definition.

The list below ticks off some of the games pre-loaded into the Vision 32. Early buyers will also get a over two dozen casino and slots games, seven clone games – including a Donkey Kong clone, a Freeway clone and a Frogger clone – plus a DVD-ROM drive. You can also add your own games, play music and videos and go online on the machine.

Guy Making a List of Every Video Game Ever Made

Have you ever wondered how many video games there have been? And if you have, have you wanted to view a list of them? It would probably take several days to read. Well, Pastebin user Data_Baser is making a list – and hopefully checking it twice – to finally find an answer.

gamemagnify

Once he finishes compiling this impossibly huge list, we will know exactly how many video games have been made throughout history. He’s been working with some folks over on 4chan to create the list and he will include console, arcade, PC, mobile and browser-based games.

It is already at 43,000 entries and climbing. It will be interesting to see how this all ends. The list, so far, can be found below, or over on Pastebin.

Oculus Rift Hoverboard Simulator: HoVRboard

We have less than a year to go before Back to the Future II’s hoverboard prediction is debunked. But thanks to virtual reality, we might be able to simulate the feeling of riding a hoverboard. Game developer Kieran Lord aka Cratesmith recently showed off an early build of his hoverboard simulator for the Oculus Rift.

Kieran is making the game using the popular Unity game engine. He’s using a Wii Balance Board to control his game.

If you have an Oculus Rift, a Wii Balance Board and a Mac, you’re in luck: Kieran shared an early build of his game through Dropbox. You can find out more about the game on Kieran’s Reddit thread.

DIY Plush USB Game Controller: Hug and Play

We’ve seen all kinds of game controller plushies, but I think this is the first time I’ve seen one that can actually be used to play video games. Adafruit’s Becky Stern built the soft controller using their Flora Arduino-compatible platform and some conductive thread and fabric.

Even though Becky’s design looks like a squishy, oversize NES controller, your computer will recognize the plushie as a USB keyboard, so you can use it with any keyboard-based game. If you’re handy with stitching, perhaps you can modify Becky’s guide and make a plushie of your favorite controller. It would probably take a long time to build a full keyboard plushie though.

Make a plush browser and head to Adafruit for the full guide and parts list.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Link Nendoroid Action Figure: The Squeal Maker

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker stands out among other Zelda games for its distinctive art style, an anime-infused aesthetic that made Link as cute as a button. If you want to stare at him all day, get this Nendoroid Link action figure.

Good Smile Company’s action figure comes with equally tiny replicas of the Hero’s Sword, Hero’s Shield, Heart Container and the Wind Waker itself. It also comes with four heads, each with a different expression: smiling, nervous, serious and angry.

Famicom Pin Badge Collection: Gotta Cart ‘Em All

While looking at the Star Soldius t-shirt, I stumbled upon another homage to classic video games, and from a Japanese artist as well. It’s a collection of Famicom cartridge pin badges.

Ketchuparts’ collection will consist of 15 pin badges. I’m not entirely certain, but I think they’re based on Famicom launch games.

Super Mario Bros. Drum Kit: Our Drumsticks are in Another Castle

This custom Super Mario Bros. Drum Kit looks pretty awesome. It’s the kind of thing they would play at the Koopa Cabana. If such a place existed. Anyway, your Mario themed band has found it’s first set of equipment.

It was made for the drummer from One Fell Swoop by SJC Custom Drums, who makes all kinds of cool custom drum sets. I say beat on Bowser, not drums, but if you are a Nintendo fanboy with rhythm, you’ll want to get your drumsticks on this awesome themed drum kit.

This is sooo much better than Donkey Konga. Of course, I’m no Keith Moon. More like a Keith Loon. I’m one Goomba shy of a gaggle, but I know a cool drum set when I see one.
