Life-sized Titanfall Mech Surfaces in Germany

If you find yourself near the Berlin Central Station today, you may have noticed a gigantic robot there before you decided to run for your life and hide in some corner. Nothing to fear. It’s just Betty the Titan, and this is just one stop on a four stop tour around Germany to promote Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall in a big way.

Believe it or not Respawn and EA have been moving this and one other Titanfall prop all around the world. So far Betty has made appearances at Gamescom, GDC, E3, and a couple of other venues. Both Titans were created to represent the true scale of the mech compared to puny humans and they do that well. They would be amazing to see in person.

The Titans were created by Daniel’s Wood Land, based out of Paso Robles, CA. They are made almost completely out of foam, which is carved using 3D carving machines, then painted and sealed. So they aren’t as hard to move around as you would think. One day soon maybe we have have real mechs this size to crush us and kill us.

Ben Heck Creates One-Handed PS4 Controller for Disabled

Our favorite modder, Ben Heck, has come up with another cool creation. As he has done numerous times in the past, he has built a special controller to help the disabled to play video games. The modified gaming controller was requested by one of his viewers and as usual, he has delivered.

This accessibility controller lets gamers with use of only a single hand play PS4 games. All the buttons on the left side have been shifted and re-fitted on the right side, including the left analog stick, which was put on the back of the unit. Ben will reveal the build on an upcoming episode of his show, but the 40 second trailer here gives us a little tease.

This is going to make a lot of folks very happy. Keep an eye out on Element 14 for the full episode, which is expected to premiere later today.

Angry Birds Epic Tipped to Be a Turn-Based Strategy RPG

Angry Birds is one of the most popular mobile game franchises of all time. There have been several games launched in the series and until the Angry Birds Go racing game landed, most of the apps had the same basic game play. A new Angry Birds game had been teased with the tagline “The Most Epic Soft Launch Ever.”

It appears that the word “Epic” was a hint at the next game. Reports have surfaced along with some screen shots that call the new game Angry Birds Epic. The game is rumored to be a narrative, turn-based strategy RPG. If that is accurate, it will be a big change from its traditional game play.

The game will be free to play and will be supported via in-game purchases. Screenshots tease “epic” upgrades that involve upgrades for your characters and more. Those weapons and upgrades are tipped to be items that the player crafts in the game. Unsurprisingly, to speed up the crafting process, gamers are said to be able to purchase the upgrades in the game with real money.

Analogue Nt Plays NES & Famicom Games: 2000-in-1

Boutique video game shop Analogue Interactive announced that it’s going to release Analogue Nt, a retro console that can play both NES and Famicom cartridges. That’s double the library. Double the dribble. Double the dragon. And probably quintuple the Mario clones.

Analogue Nt is based on the NES hardware but will have support for up to four controllers as well as a case crafted from a single block of aluminum. Analogue Interactive should release more details about the console very soon, seeing as they plan on taking pre-orders by the end of the month.  If their Neo-Geo MVS case mod is any indication, you should expect to pay more than a current gen console for this one.

I Wore the Navy's Oculus Rift, and It Showed Me the Future of Warfare

When we think of the future of the military, we think of bigger and better weapons. Laser canons and the like. But what about the people operating those lasers? How can a behemoth like the Navy ready its future sailors for the high-tech combat of tomorrow? Believe it or not, with an Oculus Rift.

DIY Portal Sentry Turret Doesn’t Blame You for Drawing on It

If you ever looked at one of the white Portal sentry turrets and thought it was a blank canvas waiting for a Sharpie, you will love this. ThinkGeek has an 8-inch vinyl DIY sentry turret that comes with an official Aperture Corporation black permanent marker.

That means one mistake and you are SOL. I would be more impressed if the surface of the turret could be wiped clean so you could doodle repeatedly. The turret replica is made from vinyl so perhaps if you had a dry erase marker, you could wipe it clean. That, or you could always hit it with a Thermal Discouragement Beam.

The toy is an officially licensed Portal 2 figure. It sells for $19.99(USD) and is available for your doodling pleasure right now.
