The game is a motorcycle and ATV racing title that promises lots of competition and cutting edge graphics, along with social features. PS4 The Last of Us Release Date: June 20

It’s no surprise that so much anticipation has built up around the launch of The Last of Us on the PS4. The game was one of the best to hit the PS3 in its long history and was one of the best games of the year last year. PS4 gamers have had tidbits of detail about the game coming to the new Sony console.

We heard before that the game was coming this summer. That is a rather vague launch window though. Several major game retailers have now tipped a new launch date for the game. Target, Best Buy, and GameFly all list the launch date for the game as June 20.

Uncoincidentally, that is just about a week after E3 wraps up this summer. The launch date hasn’t been officially confirmed, but with so many retailers showing the same date, it’s almost a sure thing.

Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth Lands This Fall

I have been playing the Civilization games from Sid Meier for years. I particularly liked Civilization V that launched most recently in the series, and still play that game frequently. If you are a fan of the franchise, a new game is coming in late 2014 that you can look forward to. The game is called Civilization: Beyond Earth.

civ 960 620x365magnify

Unlike the other games in the franchise that have had us evolving our civilizations over time up until the space-faring age when the game ends, Beyond Earth starts there. Players will get to colonize other worlds with their civilizations.

Players will get to lead factions to alien worlds where they can make colonies. The planets will change based on the player actions. Beyond Earth will also feature nonlinear technology progression, deep customization, and more. There is always the chance that the game will be delayed, but I hope not I am looking forward to playing this game when it hits this holiday season. You can pre-order Civilization: Beyond Earth now for $49.99(USD).

“8-bit” Mazda Miata: Insert Coin to Drive

Ah, the Mazda Miata. It’s the scourge of autocross and road racing tracks around the world. It has little power, epic handling, and is dirt cheap to repair, making these little convertible sports cars a mainstay for motorsports around the world. Few things in life are more rewarding than shaming a person in a high-powered muscle car in a Miata with only 100hp to the wheels on a road racing course.

Tofu Drift Van recently bought what appears to be your typically clapped out Miata for $1000 with the goal of making it into a drift car. He decided to make it a bit different though, and somehow rigged up an ignition that will only start the car when you put quarters in the arcade style coin slot.

That is awesome and should be mandatory equipment on any ChumpCar or LeMons racing Miata. The owner of the car says he plans to add a Player 1 pushbutton for starting the car next.

Borderlands Claptrap Trash Can: Please Don’t Shoot It!

Claptrap is kind of annoying. Cute, but annoying. The robot from Borderlands has a grating voice, he follows you everywhere, and spends way too much time beatboxing. I complain, but the game wouldn’t be the same without him. The folks over at Our Nerd Home must feel the same way because they made a Claptrap trash can.

I would say that is entirely warranted. They also have a tutorial for you to follow along and build a Claptrap disposal unit of your very own if you want one in your home. And who wouldn’t? You’ll need a step-on trash can, cables, cardboard, and some other stuff, but the end result looks pretty amazing.

It would feel great to throw trash in this guy after having to deal with him in game for a few hours. Take that, you bucket of bolts!

Xbox One April 2015 Update Drops

The latest update for the Xbox One game console began rolling out this week. The update is bringing with it several new features that will improve the console and make it better for owners. The update includes changes to game and app saves with a new progress bar. That progress bar shows you the status of game saved and makes it easy to tell what games and apps are being updated.

Friends’ notifications were improved with new indications that let you see when favorites and friends sign in to Xbox Live. Friends who are in multiplayer will also be identified on the list with the new update. Another important update is the addition of Kinect voice and motion tracking. Microsoft has tweaked the functionality of Kinect to have fewer false positives with non-hand objects triggering gesture commands.

New compression algorithms for the GameDVR are included and the controller and headset firmware has been updated for better communications. Xbox One consoles now also have silent reboots after updates so the system returns to standby automatically after the update is applied.

DIY PC Gaming Pedal: Floor General

A few years ago Ben Heck made a breath-operated controller to substitute for the kick drum pedal of the Guitar Hero drum set, allowing a wheelchair-bound player to rock out. This time, the master modder made his own USB-based pedals to give him added control options when playing video games on the PC.

Ben’s pedals are run by a Teensy board. His computer will recognize them as a keyboard, making it easy to map commands in games. Ben made it so he can map up to two commands per pedal: the first command is activated with a slight press and the second command is triggered by pressing harder on the pedal.

Watch Ben build them the video below. Skip to around 15:25 to see the finished pedals.

Don’t have Ben’s hands to help your feet? Don’t worry. There are commercially available PC foot pedals like the Stinkyboard, the Fragpedal and the Alto Edge Infinity.
