If you’re a fan of the MMO video game series World of Warcraft, you may have been interested a few weeks back when I mentioned that actor Colin Farrell had been tipped to play the lead in the film. One thing that we didn’t know when those other rumors about the movie surfaced was when it might hit theaters. The official release date for the movie was recently announced via the World of Warcraft Twitter page.
According to the tweet, the movie will be released by Universal Pictures on December 18, 2015. The movie is being produced by Legendary Pictures and directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code). The real question here is will this movie suck horribly? At least they’ve got a good director attached.
World of Warcraft certainly has enough fans and enough cinematic elements in the game to get a lot of people interested. Colin Farrell isn’t exactly the biggest name out there, but he is a big name to be attached to a video game movie. I’m cautiously optimistic that the Warcraft flick won’t end up another failed video game movie like Doom or Super Mario Bros.
GTA V gamers around the world were absolutely thrilled earlier this week when GTA Online finally launched. Unfortunately, many players were unable to get online and play due to overwhelming server demand. There have been some issues reported with GTA Online and Rockstar announced last night that would be issuing an update for the game today.
GTA Online micro-transactions are currently disabled, but one of the biggest problems is that some users are reporting saved data is being deleted. This problem is reportedly causing people to waste money on cash cards.
There’s no indication of if this patch will also address the problem some gamers were having with their cars disappearing from their virtual garages. It would be very irritating to spend lots of time and money upgrading a car in the game only to have it disappear. Hopefully that issue will be addressed with this patch.
I have very strong memory of the first video game I ever played. I don’t remember exactly what year it was, but I remember being very young and going to a pizza place with my dad for lunch and they had a arcade table game of Pac-Man. I can remember seeing several other table style arcade games in restaurants in the 80s, but I never remember seeing one that was Space Invaders.
In fact, the only Space Invaders I remember from the 80s was on the Atari. At any rate, an awesome retro gaming piggy bank has turned up that is based on Space Invaders. Rather than looking like on the vertical arcade machines were used to from the 80s, and that we’ve seen turned into banks before, this one it’s like one of those console tables.
The bank is made by Takara Tomy and you can actually play Space Invaders on the tiny little LCD screen on top of the bank. The device can hold up to 80 coins and the LCD will show you how much money you’ve saved. Power comes from three AA batteries. You can order one of these for yourself in the UK for £34.95.
Redditor Paramorgue found an extraordinary tombstone in his hometown in Lund, Sweden. He says it’s dedicated to a boy who died when he was just five years old. The statue immortalizes the child enjoying perhaps what was one of his favorite pastimes: playing Pokémon.
In the statue, the child is holding a Game Boy Advance SP with a Graveler etched on the screen. The same Pokémon is also shown hiding under the Game Boy.
Time lapse videos are the calming peek at cities and situations from a perspective not available in the daily grind of life, showing large swaths of time in a few short seconds — rolling clouds, passing sun beams, and such. The Despicables Channel has taken this photographic art and used it in a rather interesting […]
It’s official. Living in the world of GTA is way better than living in real life. Hell, the only thing real life had on being a criminal in Los Santos was gaspingly beautiful time lapse videos that would pop up every and now again to capture your attention and make you wonder why you can’t see the world like that every day. No more. Here’s a time lapse video created in the world of GTA V. It’s perfect.
Sega, which was hit with a lawsuit in May over false advertisement for the game Aliens: Colonial Marines, has confirmed that it has laid off some of its employees in the United States, though specifics — namely, the number of employees who were let go — hasn’t been specified. Such a move comes a handful […]
As the Starks used to say “Winter is Coming!” so you’d better start thinking about how you’re going to keep warm when Fall is over. You could freeze your bippy off, or you could cover it up with a ghost from Pac-Man.
These handmade crocheted blankets from AtomicBits are just the thing to give you a little added warmth as you cozy up on the couch in front of your shiny new PS4 or XBone this holiday season.
At a little over 2-feet-square, they’re actually a better size for a baby blanket, but you get the point. They still will look cool thrown on your bed or couch. Each one is made from anti-allergic Acrylic/Wool thread, and is perfect for any retro gaming fanatic. They’re currently available in red (Blinky) and orange (Clyde) versions, though I’m sure you could convince AtomicBits to make you an Inky, Pinky or blue ghost if you ask nicely.
Megaman has firm a place in the hearts of many, the evidence of which is blatant in the runaway success of its descendant — Mighty No. 9′s — Kickstarter campaign. The funding goal was ambitious, seeking millions, yet saw its milestones reached at a clipped rate, such as the unlocking of PS3, Xbox 360, and […]
New videogame systems all have one weakness: there are barely any games that come out at the same time as the hardware. The PS Vita and the Wii U are the most recent victims of this dilemma. Even though the Oculus Rift is a head-mounted display and not a console, it’s so different from other monitors that it’s going to have the same problem. But not if VorpX can help it.
The VorpX stereoscopic 3D driver converts Windows games that make use of DirectX 9, 10 and 11 so that they’ll be compatible with the Oculus Rift. It currently works with 90 games, including Bioshock Infinite, Fallout 3 and Mirror’s Edge, all of which you’ll see in the demo below. You can read the full list of compatible games here.
Aside from converting games, the driver also has a number of features to make it easier to play today’s games with the next-generation display. Users can make a virtual keyboard pop up on the screen, which I assume they can then operate with a mouse, negating the need to see the keyboard that they’re using. Users can customize the virtual keyboard as they see fit. VorpX also has a feature called Edge Peek. Activated by pressing the mouse scroll wheel, Edge Peek lets you look at the edge of the screen.
Edge Peek may not be needed in future Oculus Rift-ready games, but it might be a requirement for games from the current generation or earlier. That’s because the headset crops what you’d normally see on a traditional display, which means anything that’s on the far edges of the screen won’t be visible. But many games place critical information like radar or items on the edges of the screen, hence the need for Edge Peek. It’s not an optimal solution, but it’s better than nothing. Another feature related to Edge Peek is the option to zoom out the view, which should come in handy for viewing cinematics.
VorpX also supports two 3D modes, one of which results in better graphics but is more resource-intensive than the other option.
The driver is currently in beta, but VorpX is already charging for it. If you want to take the plunge, head to Road to VR to order the software; $40 (USD) gets you two licenses. Check out Road to VR’s article to find out more about the driver.
