Flash 9 H.264 Demo

Just the other day Adobe released Flash Player 9.0.115.0, and the most notable feature is the new H.264 (HD quality) video support. That is pretty big news because H.264 offers better video quality at lower bitrates, which inevitably makes for a better viewing experience. As Wikipedia points out there are numerous benefits to using H.264 for sharing videos.

One site that has already jumped on the bandwagon for supporting the H.264 is Hulu (review). Right now you have to be invited to join Hulu, but if you’re a member they have an HD gallery currently available. Obviously the quality of the trailers and clips that they have on there right now is better than the current Hulu quality, but the selection is still rather limited. For the inquisitive minds out there here are Hulu’s requirements for the HD quality videos:

  • Flash Player 9.0.115.0
  • 2.5Mbps Internet connection or greater
  • Windows: Intel Pentium 4 3GHz processor (or equivalent), 128MB of RAM, 64MB of VRAM
  • Macintosh: Intel Core Duo 1.83GHz or faster processor, 256MB of RAM, 64MB of VRAM
  • Linux: Intel Pentium 4 3GHz processor (or equivalent), 128MB of RAM, 64MB of VRAM

The system requirements to watch the videos are a bit steep, but newer computers from the last few years should have no troubles. Otherwise you might experience some skipping while watching them.

Let us know if you find any other good HD quality content that is taking advantage of the new Flash 9.

Watch a Lifetime Go By in Five Minutes

What can happen in a lifetime? A lot, I’m sure, with a couple of “once-in-a-lifetime” moments thrown in there for good measure.

Anthony Cerniello recently went to his friend Danielle’s family reunion, where he brought along still photographer Keith Sirchio. Using a Hasselblad medium format camera, Keith shot photos of various members of her family, from her young cousins to her much older relatives.

Each image was painstakingly scanned using a drum scanner at the U.N. in New York. There, Anthony’s real work began. He carefully selected which of the family members who had the most similar features and edited their images. He then called in animators Nathan Meier and Edmund Earle to tie everything together using After Effects and 3D Studio Max.

Using these programs, the duo morphed and animated the still images to render them to be as likelife as possible. Artist George Cuddy was then brought in to smooth out the finer details, like the eyes and the hair, which he achieved using Nuke – 3D visual effects software.

The result is the very impressive clip above. It seemingly shows one person go through various stages of aging, when in fact, it’s actually several generations altogether.

‘My Little Brony’ Dolls: Friendship is Manly

For some reason, My Little Pony reminds me of the Powerpuff Girls. It’s probably because of their usage of bright colors or the fact that their larger-than-life fanbase includes unusual members, most notably grown-up men who probably aren’t who the shows’ producers were targeting.

My Little BronyBut there they are and here we all are. Male fans of My Little Pony are so great in number that they’ve come to be collectively known as bronies. You know, bros who love ponies.

Never being one to let something slip past them, College Humor picked up on this to come up with a new range of fictitious but oh-so-amusing line of dolls, aptly called My Little Brony. They even put together a commercial featuring the fake dolls, just for the heck of it…

LOLs aside, what do you think?

The Little Film That Could: "Finish Line" Coming Into The Final Stretch on KickStarter"Finish Line: The Rise and Demise of Off-Track Betting" is an indie
documentary currently in production. It’s a ‘Damon Runyon-esque"
real-life American saga real-life American saga that unfortunately doesn’t come with a Hollywood

Governor Cuomo of New York looked the other way.

would make such a claim? Vince Gilligan, the director – that’s who!

4K video transfer over WiGig to be demonstrated at Intel Developer Forum

For the time being, consumers have gotten a look at WiGig technology through select vendors, with the technology having begun to pick up speed in recent times as more devices are offered with it. That speed increase will be coming in a different way in the near future, however, with DisplayLink and Wilocity announcing that […]

Google+’s Long History Of Suspensions In Search Of Remedies

Google+'s Long History Of Suspensions In Search Of RemediesFor those who have recently been chastised with the swift judgemental
hand of a Google+ suspension, you are not alone. Google+ has had a long
history of not only suspending accounts, but also deleting them. Dating
all the way back to July, 2011 (only one month after its inception), Google +
was deleting what they thought were a large number of fake accounts, only to restore them when users proved their legitimacy.

Legs AND Arms Pedal The Varibike

VaribikeI bet you could win the Tour de France with this bike, but it probably
would not be legal – at least not yet.  German bicycle enthusiast,
Martin Kraiss, always felt there was something missing from his favorite
sport – upper body involvement. After years in development, Kraiss has
invented an 11-speed bicycle for his legs and arms to pedal.
It’s the Varibike, and with all the upper body action it adds to the
sport of biking, it’s sure to attract many new biking enthusiasts.
