Since Hulu’s former CEO Jason Kilar stepped down earlier this year, the video streaming service has had Andy Forssell serving as acting CEO while a hunt to find a permanent replacement has been underway. Such a time has reportedly come, with sources stating that Fox Network’s President of Distribution Mike Hopkins will be announced as […]

Could this be the new big event of the year? Probably not, but YouTube is extending a virtual red carpet out to a list of people who submitted their videos to YouTube over the course of 2006, and deserve to be recognized. Starting today, you can vote for your favorite videos that you’d like to see win a YouTube Video Award – trophy included.
To make it easy, they’ve divided the awards into 7 different categories: most creative, most inspirational, best comedy, musician of the year, best commentary, and ‘most adorable video ever.” Users will have five days to vote, and the videos with the most votes in each category will win.
Mashable is reporting that the list of nominees will be here sometime today, but as of now while I’m writing this, that list is not yet available. I’m sure Lonelygirl15 will be on that list somewhere, and maybe even one of my favorites, Evolution of Dance.
There are lots of YouTube fans lurking around here, so which video if any do you think will be triumphant in any of the categories? I’m sure there are plenty of deserving recipients, but I’m only left to wonder, what will these acceptance speeches be like?

Avant Window Navigator (Awn) 0.2 was just released, and there is no doubt that it is one of the best looking docks I’ve seen on any operating system. There is a video below that shows all of the cool icon effects, including the sweet reflection. Before we get into that let’s take a look at what’s new:
- Icon effects – choose whether your icons bounce like cartoon characters, spin like a coin, or have a spotlight cast on them.
- Awn Manager – a unified interface for managing all of the settings Awn has to offer.
- Applets – you’ll soon be able to get things like weather, system information, and more all from the comfort of your own dock. Things like Stacks and a clock are also in the works.
Below is a video that demonstrates the various icon effects, and you better sit down if you haven’t seen it before. The 3D turning with the spotlight is my favorite.

Inventors No Longer Dime-A-Dozen: Million Dollar Man Takes Bite Out Of The Sharks
Posted in: Today's ChiliCharles Michael Yim took a very deep breath after scoring big time on the ABC TV show Shark Tank
this past week to pitch his latest invention. And while he might have
exhaled a whiff of champagne with that sigh of exhaltation, we’re sure
he drove off under the legal alcohol limit. Why? Because Yim is the
creator and developer of the first breathalyzer that interfaces with a
smartphone.
Time lapse videos are the calming peek at cities and situations from a perspective not available in the daily grind of life, showing large swaths of time in a few short seconds — rolling clouds, passing sun beams, and such. The Despicables Channel has taken this photographic art and used it in a rather interesting […]
While the Twitterati waited with heightened anticipation for its beloved
social network to file its public offering (IPO) papers with the
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) this past week, it appears the
microblogging site just became additional collateral damage as a direct
result of the Federal Government’s shutdown.
Target Ticket video service launches to the public, offers digital downloads
Posted in: Today's ChiliLate last month, a tip surfaced claiming that Target would be opening its Target Ticket video service to the general public soon, taking it out the previously closed beta it was in. Fast forward a few weeks, and such has proved to be the case, with the new video service officially exiting beta and being […]
The suburbs hold a certain amount of nostalgia for many people, but Australian artist Ian Strange has a bizarre relationship with that icon of the middle class – he likes to burn them down. His body of work juxtaposes large-scale installation art, video footage, symbolism, and towering infernos as a means of breaking down the constructions of society, in more ways than one.
Ever read the comments on a popular YouTube video? There is no faster way to strip yourself of faith in humanity. It’s a cesspool. And this is coming from someone who writes for the Gawker network. We know a little something about rowdy comments sections. YouTube’s is worse, but it’s finally about to smarten up.
Sure, you’ve played Super Mario Bros. with your friends, but I bet you have never played it with 974 people at once. Well, that happened. At the 2013 Gamescom in Germany, Stabyourself.net recorded 974 people playing their custom Super Mario Bros. time trial. After collecting all 974 playthroughs, they merged them into a single amazing video.
At times it looks like a snake slithering through the level as all of these players race toward the end, running, jumping, and trying to survive. You might notice some frozen Marios too. That is because there was a three second penalty for dying.
The best time was 41.32 seconds. It really is mesmerizing to watch. It’s like the Borg suddenly discovered the NES and played it collectively.
