BitTorrent Intros Live Streaming Service That Makes Buffering A Thing Of The Past

BitTorrent Intros Live Streaming Service That Makes Buffering A Thing Of The Past

Torrents have been used over the years mainly as a way to effectively share content with other users who are also interested in that piece of content, using all the bandwidth of the connected parties in order to deliver that content to one another. Videos, photos, e-books and software have all be download and uploaded on torrents for years, but a new service may change how we look at torrents forever.

BitTorrent inventor Bram Cohen is announcing today a live streaming video service that he believes will revolutionize the online streaming world. BitTorrent Live allows people to stream content through BitTorrent and the more people that tune in, the better the quality becomes, which is the complete opposite of traditional online video streams.

Since the service will use those watching in order to help strengthen its broadcast, this will effectively eliminate the need for the person who is hosting the video to worry about bandwidth costs as well as infrastructure barriers. This is quite an important technology as, in theory, it could make the days of buffering online videos a thing of the past, that is, as long as there are enough people watching the same thing you are.

Netflix Launches ISP Speed Index Site To Rank Global Video Streaming

In its attempt to fight for its users to experience episodes of Pawn Stars in as high definition as possible, Netflix started ranking ISPs dubbing Google Fiber as the best service to watch its video streaming service on. Since then, it’s been regularly ranking US ISPs, but today, the company is announcing it will now be ranking all ISPs around the world.

In last month’s ranks that include not only the US but the UK, Mexico, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Ireland and Norway. In Netflix’s ISP Speed Index, Google Fiber is the clear global winner in the countries included as they come in at the fastest speed of 3.35Mbps. On the other side of the spectrum, Clearwire’s WiMAX came in last place with a download speed of 1.25Mbps.

Netflix’s ISP Speed Index will be updated monthly and be based off of its user’s steaming experience, which is comprised of 33 million members which Netflix says watches one billion hours of video every month. We’re sure until other ISPs decide their customers would actually want gigabit Internet, Google Fiber will continue to lead Netflix’s ISP Speed Index.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Possibly Leaked In Video

The amount of attention Samsung has been receiving for its upcoming Galaxy S4 has been astounding as potential customers have been going crazy to hear the latest news regarding the upcoming smartphone. The Galaxy S4 might have finally shown its face and backside yesterday, and today, we’re seeing a video of what could possibly be the Galaxy S4.

YouTube user “istevencom” caught what looks to be the Samsung Galaxy S4, specifically the dual-sim variant that will be available for the Chinese market. Judging by the supposed Galaxy S4′s looks, it seems Samsung didn’t make any extreme changes to the device’s externals as the front and the back of the device seem to look similar to the Galaxy S3. iOS Does The Harlem Shake In Jailbreak Tweak

The Harlem Shake viral videos were pretty amusing when they were first released, but now I have to say that it gets a little tiresome. However if you’re still into the Harlem Shaking craze, or if you’ve only recently discovered it, then perhaps this iPhone jailbreak tweak could be of interest to you. iOS Developer Filippo Bigarella has managed to create a tweak for iOS that basically allows the icons on your iPhone to do the Harlem Shake. Fortunately for most of us, this tweak will not be released so for those who are starting to get a bit sick of this meme, rest assured that you won’t have this shoved in your face every other minute. For those who still get a kick out of it, we guess you can watch the video for yourself above, which in all honesty is pretty amusing to a certain degree.

Oreo-Separating Robotic Butler HERB Shows Us How Its Done

Nabisco’s recent Oreo videos have been gaining a good amount of attention as they feature people who are passionate enough to create methods of separating the cookie and cream filling. We first met a man who built a machine which completely removed the cream filling and then met two people who invented a machine that allowed both cookie & cream lovers to co-exist. Today, we meet HERB.

Robotic researchers from Carnegie Mellon University built HERB, who is a Household-Exploring Robotic Butler, originally to assist people with their household duties, which we’re hoping one day includes doing the laundry and cooking up some Steak ‘Ems. HERB’s duties shifted a tad recently in order to help separate Oreo cookies, which HERB says, “Apparently, that is a big deal for humans.”

HERB attempts to separate an Oreo cookie a number of times, the majority of the time resulted in a crumbled Oreo. Ultimately, HERB not only learned how to successfully separate an Oreo cookie, but he also used additional tools that helped completely remove the cream to prepare it for human consumption.

YouTube Co Founder Teases Launch Of New Video Service

When Google purchased YouTube for $1.65 billion a little over six years ago, the company knew it was a service they absolutely needed in their suite of products. That’s why when you hear one of the original co-founders of YouTube may be developing a new video service for the Web, people tend to take notice.

YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley made his way to SXSW this week to say he’s about a month away from launching a platform to complement YouTube. AdWeek was there to capture what exactly he said, which we’re sure you’re dying to hear: (more…)

Samsung Galaxy S4 Multiple Colors Hinted At In Latest Teaser Video

We’re not sure who exactly this Jeremy Maxwell character is Samsung decided to highlight in their teaser videos, but we have been quite envious of him for the past couple of days as he’s one of the first people to lay eyes on the Galaxy S4.

Last week, Jeremy took a trip to New York City to take a look at the Galaxy S4, which may or may not have blinded him considering the bright flash of light that came out of the box when it was opened. This week, Jeremy takes the Galaxy S4 to his home, where he deflects his neighbor’s questions of “What’s in the box?”

During the video, Jeremy makes a number of comments in regards to the Galaxy S4, saying “it’s pretty irresistible,” “it’s unreal,” and “beautiful.” Later on in the video, he hints the Galaxy S4 may be offered in a wide variety of colors as he says, “It’s my favorite color.” The Galaxy S3 was only available in white or pebble blue, which if the S4 does come in multiple colors, could become a device anyone could find in their favorite color.

RefCam Uses GoPro To Give Sports Fans An Unprecedented Look At Rugby

Fans of sports have always been trying their best to get as close to the action as they possibly could. They buy tickets to games with the closest seat possible and buy the largest HDTVs so they can see every bit of the action as close as possible. One thing that has yet to be considered in sports is to strap a camera on the referee since they’re always in the middle of the action, but Fox Sports AU has gone ahead and done that to show what it would look like in a special segment on Rugby HQ.

The RefCam slaps a GoPro camera onto a referee’s ear that allows viewers to get in on the action right at the playing level. The results of the RefCam are absolutely amazing as the amount of action fans can view from the camera makes previous forms of watching sports seem prehistoric.

Rugby fans praised the RefCam to the point where they’re already considering allowing the technology to offer a first-hand view of the action again. Hopefully US sports associations or at least their broadcast partners are taking note as we could easily see the RefCam do well with football, basketball and maybe even baseball games if they were introduced.

Netflix Gives Tattooed Fan One Year Of Free Service

We think it’s safe to say the majority of people out there, especially if you own a video game console or any other device that offers the ability to watch streaming video online, have a Netflix account. $8 a month to be able to access a rather large library of videos at the drop of a hat is one many people can’t pass up, but would you consider saving $96 dollars by defacing your body with a corporate logo?

Twitter user @TheRealMyron decided he enjoyed Netflix so much, that he would get the company’s logo tattooed on his arm in one of the worst tattoos we’ve seen in the past couple of months. Fortunately, Netflix caught wind of his dedication to their service and went ahead and gave him a free year of the service.

In case you were wondering, Myron didn’t get his tattoo in order to receive a free year of service. He had the tattoo done because he was a devoted fan, which is actually more sad than we originally thought. I mean, I love a good Twinkie, but there’s no way I’d deface a piece of my favorite body to get a tattoo of one, especially if it turns into a devil Twinkie.

A Glimpse Into How Google Glass Will Be Used By Guys

After seeing what Google expects its Project Glass to be capable of, we’re sure it’ll make its way to your holiday wish list when it releases later this year. But a good majority of you probably won’t use it for such adventurous purposes, instead, there’s a good chance it’ll be used in just your everyday lives.

A short video created by Dartanion London takes a look at what a typical man would do if he were to use his Google Glass on a first date. Of course, when asked about our glasses, we would start off by saying that they are, in fact, to help us see better, but then use them for purposes that aren’t exactly ideal for a first date situation. Looking up your date’s information to get the upper hand, feigning interest in what she likes as well as sneaking a photo to be ogled at later in your private quarters probably rank high on any man’s list.

Let’s just hope whoever you end up using your Google Glass on doesn’t have a Siri as she’ll certainly block your efforts.
