Ubisoft Announces That Watch Dogs Will Get An Ebook Of Its Own

Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs is expected to see a release on the 27th of May and while we might have some idea of the game and the story, we’re not too sure how the entire thing will play out. However that has not stopped Ubisoft from creating an ebook that will act as a sequel to Watch Dogs once the game has ended.

Interestingly enough Ubisoft has decided to release the Watch Dogs ebook alongside the game itself, so if you want to avoid any spoilers, you might want to complete the game before diving into the book. The book, titled Watch_Dogs //n/Dark Clouds, is written by John Shirley, an author who has written over 30 books and short stories during the course of his career.

Shirley also has experience adapting video games to books and has written novels based on Borderlands, Doom, and BioShock in the past as well, so if you enjoy his writing, then perhaps the upcoming Watch Dogs ebook might be worth looking forward to. The book, like we said, will see a release on the 27th of May as well and will be available in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.

There will also be additional editions of the book planned that will include interactive images and videos. In the meantime if you have a couple of minutes to spare, you can check out the video above for more details.

Watch Dogs’ Ultra Specs Revealed

Over the past few months, Ubisoft has revealed both the minimum and recommended hardware specifications for gamers who are planning on playing Watch Dogs on their computers. For the most part, the minimum specifications shouldn’t be too hard for most gamers to meet, assuming that they have a decent graphics card and relatively new hardware.

Gamers striving for recommended will probably need slightly better hardware and make the jump towards a high mid-range or high-end GPU. However we can only imagine that there are some gamers out there who want to be able to run the game at its maximum settings while enjoying at least 60 frames per second, and in a recent tweet by Jonathan Morin, the ultra specs have been revealed.

According to Morin, gamers are strongly suggested to have an Intel Core i7-4770K processor with a GeForce 780 GPU, which at the moment is one of the higher-end NVIDIA graphics cards available at the moment, the GeForce Titan notwithstanding. Morin also states that the latest Watch Dogs trailer was recorded with a previous-gen Intel processor, the i7-3930K and a GeForce Titan, so you liked what you see in the trailer (video above) and want to replicate that experience on your PC, those are some of the specs you should be aiming for.

In any case we reckon that the GeForce Titan and the GeForce 780 are a bit out of reach for most gamers as these are some pretty pricey GPUs, so if you don’t mind running the game at less than 60fps, or enjoying it at medium settings, then the recommended system specs should be more than enough to get you by, but if you’re aiming for the stars, better start breaking out that credit card!

Ubisoft And musterbrand Team Up For Watch Dogs Apparel And Accessories

Ubisoft And musterbrand Team Up For Watch Dogs Apparel And AccessoriesAre you looking forward to getting your hands on Watch Dogs? The game has been pegged for a 27th of May release and while it hasn’t been released, many gamers are definitely looking forward to it thanks to demonstrations that Ubisoft made when they revealed it at E3 a couple of years ago.

The game definitely has a pretty unique gameplay and while we’re not sure how well-received it will be, safe to say that there will be some gamers who might eventually plan on cosplaying as the game’s protagonist, Aiden Pearce, or maybe even want to dress like him and follow his fashion style.

Well the good news is that you won’t have to go about finding materials for the look because Ubisoft has recently teamed up with fashion label, musterbrand, to release a bunch of apparel and accessories related to the upcoming game. The company will be selling The Vigilante, which is the entire look of Aiden Pearce, for about $400.

This includes the coat for $200, a white knit jacket for $100, the scarf for $34, and the cap for $34 as well. Other accessories sold includes Watch Dogs-branded bags and tablet sleeves. We can’t attest to the quality of the clothes and if they can be worn for daily use or if they’re simply meant for cosplaying/costumes, but if you’re interested in checking it out and maybe grab yourself a jacket or two, hit up musterbrand’s website for the details.

Watch Dogs Requires 35 Hours Of Playing Time On Average To Complete

Watch Dogs Requires 35 Hours Of Playing Time On Average To CompleteI am quite sure when you spend a whole lot of hard earned money on a particular game, you would more or less expect that title to deliver a fair amount of playing time. Imagine forking out $60 for a game, and to receive 20 hours or so of game time would be a decent return, especially when you consider that the running time for six movies at the cinema would not even amount up to 20 hours on average. Granted, games and movies are two different entities, but at least it gives one a better idea for comparing. With Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes touted to be just 2 hours long to complete, it is comforting to know that Watch Dog’s average game completion time stands at 35 to 40 hours, with 100 hours or so required to complete everything.

The Engadget Show 45: Security with Cory Doctorow, John McAfee, Microsoft, the EFF and more!

Welcome to the wild world of security and surveillance. From CCTV to massive government spying initiatives, there’s no escaping it. Recent high-profile leaks have served as a sobering reminder of just how present it is in all of our lives, so we figured what better time to take a deep dive? We kick things off with one of the strangest (and raciest) segments in Engadget Show history: a visit to the set of John McAfee’s latest web video. The one-time security software guru and fugitive discusses the state of antivirus, bath salts and offers some unsolicited advice to Edward Snowden, one exile to another. Trevor Timm of the Electronic Frontier Foundation sits down for an animated discussion of recent NSA surveillance revelations, including a breakdown of which major tech companies are doing right by their user base.

Boing Boing editor, sci-fi author and privacy activist Cory Doctorow climbs a tree in San Diego to discuss Wikileaks, the NSA, the “surveillance state” and more. “Edward Snowden is a hero,” he begins, not speaking on behalf of the EFF, mind you — and things get really good from there. Cryptographer and computer security specialist Bruce Schneier also chimes in on wiretapping, whistleblowing and “security theater.”

Next up, we pay a visit to The New Yorker‘s midtown office to talk Strong Box, the magazine’s secure deposit box for anonymous whistleblowers. The team behind Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs joins us to discuss partnering with computer security company Kaspersky to bring a realistic portrait of the world of hacking to its much anticipated title. And one-time hacker turned head of security community outreach at Microsoft, Katie Moussouris, discusses Redmond’s Bluehat bounty program and working with the hacking community to build safer software.

All that, plus the usual prognosticating from resident philosopher John Roderick in this month’s Engadget Show, just after the break.
