YouTube Comedy Week Will Bring Big Stars And Hilarious Sketches

YouTube Comedy Week Will Bring Big Stars And Hilarious Sketches

From May 19 to May 25, YouTube will be organizing a Comedy Week on the website, which will bring together several big name stars who will be performing hilarious, hopefully, sketches and stand-up routines. This is a significant move on YouTube’s part to draw attention towards its entry in the original programming niche. More event weeks will be held later this year, they’ll be centered around various different themes.

Popular comedic stars such as Rainn Wilson, Seth Rogen, Micheal Cera, Vince Vaughn, Sarah Silverman and comedy groups The Lonely Island as well as Tim & Eric will be performing on YouTube Comedy Week. The Week will be live streamed from Culver Studios in Los Angeles, California. YouTube roped in former Jimmey Kimmel Live! producer Daniel Kellison as an executive producer, he has worked with a staff of 40 people to get done with this “tremendously daunting” task of producing YouTube Comedy Week. The humor genre has always been pretty big on the internet, and only recently Comedy Central announced its plans of organizing a comedy festival entirely on Twitter and Vine. With YouTube throwing its hat in the ring, aided by big name comedians, we can surely expect some amazing comedy.

New LinkedIn Contacts App Aims To Replace The Address Book

New LinkedIn Contacts App Aims To Replace The Address Book

Today LinkedIn has announced the released of its new Contacts app, which it touts as “a smarter way to stay in touch with your most important relationships.” LinkedIn Contacts is available as a new iPhone app as well as a web app on LinkedIn.com. The app brings in all contacts from the address book, email accounts and calendars, these are then kept up to date in one place. It automatically puts together all details of conversations that you have had with your contacts and adds them directly to every individual contact’s profile.

LinkedIn Contacts app will also alert users when their contacts change their jobs or there is a birthday in their network. Notes and reminders can be added inside the app, if there is anything specific that you would like to note for any particular contact. The company will be sending invitations to try LinkedIn Contacts to a limited number of members that are based in the U.S. The app certainly provides a fresh take on conventional address books, but does it offer enough functionality for you to consider using it?

PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 Controller Gets Highlighted In New Video

Even though Sony revealed its PlayStation 4 earlier this year, there are still a lot of questions gamers have regarding the console, one of which is what exactly will it look like. Since Sony isn’t prepared to unveil its PlayStation 4 yet, the company has been slowly but surely releasing additional information regarding its new DualShock 4 controller. A new video published by Sony takes another look at its upcoming controller.

The new video features a number of well-known Sony developers as they describe the DualShock 4, its new features and its overall feel. The developers talk about the DualShock 4′s light bar and its multiple functions, one of which is knowing where the players are at all times, even going as far as changing the position of a split-screen game to adjust to players changing their position. The touchpad, speaker and share button all get their own time during the video which helps in explaining what each does and how developers plan to utilize these features in their games.

Google Drive now lets collaborators add friends, start chats with fewer clicks

Google Drive now lets collaborators add friends, start chats with one click

When you’re sharing a file in Google Drive, your time should be spent collaborating, not arranging conversations. Right? Google agrees strongly enough to have just finished tweaking Drive’s web interface for better teamwork. Users actively working on the project now show as mouse-over icons, with their Google+ relationship front and center — if they’re not friends and you want them to be, you can change that almost immediately. It’s even faster to start group chats, as a new dedicated button will launch a chatroom for everyone who’s currently looking at the project. Google expects the speedier Drive socialization to reach us within a day or two, and it’s planning to bolster the update with wider file support sometime in the near future.

McAfee Patented Technology Will Detect And Block All Pirated Content

McAfee Patented Technology Will Detect And Block All Pirated Content

McAfee’s newly patented technology can not only detect but also block all pirated content. This technology will expand McAfee’s SiteAdvisor tool through will it will detect pirated material available on any website. Such content will be blocked and users will be given legal alternatives. For example if someone’s trying to download a movie’s pirated copy, they’d be given the option to purchase it instead, and won’t be allowed to download it. The system is quite advanced, it can be configured to only warn those who are accessing pirated content and offer purchase options or it can be configured to totally block access to pirated materials.

McAfee says that this technology will curb possible violation of intellectual property rights and would also save costs associated with settling lawsuits stemming from these violations. Furthermore the company believes this will curb threats by unauthorized distributors, as it is no secret that pirated content can often contain malicious materials. It is not known as of now when McAfee plans on rolling out this system, it is expected that the system will be added to their existing security products.

Twitter Reportedly Testing Two Factor Authentication

Twitter Reportedly Testing Two Factor Authentication

It is being reported that Twitter is internally testing a two factor authentication security system which will be incrementally rolled out to users in the near future. Two factor or two step authentication safeguard accounts from hacking attempts in a far better way than just passwords alone. It is not clear when Twitter plans on rolling it out, but a sense of urgency is being reported, given the recent string of high profile Twitter accounts being hacked.

Yesterday the Associated Press @AP account was hacked and a bogus tweet about bombings at the White House was posted. In recent weeks several high profile accounts have been hacked, including that of 60 Minutes and the BBC. The two factor authentication solution is currently being beta tested for influential accounts such as The New York Times, the Associated Press and Justin Bieber. It is not known how Twitter will implement this solution, it can be assumed that users will be required to pre-register a device which will receive a randomly generated code either through SMS or through an application. Entering this code along with the password would be required when signing in from a new location, this will certainly be much more effective than a mere password.

Facebook Testing Chat Presence Dots In News Feeds

Facebook Testing Chat Presence Dots In News Feeds

Facebook is testing chat presence dots in the News Feed. These dots show the chat status of your friends, clicking on it will open up a message thread. This is presumably being done to provide a boost to Facebook’s online messaging service. The testing is only being conducted on desktop at this stage, chat dots have been rolled out to a limited number of users. It is a very convenient way of letting people know which of their friends are available to chat, but one can’t say for sure whether Facebook would roll this out for over 1 billion of its users.

The messaging niche is quite saturated as it is. There are popular cross platform solutions such as Kik, Viber and WhatsApp, platform limited solutions like BBM and iMessage. The green chat dots would serve as another reminder for users to see which of their friends are online, and would hopefully keep users tied to Facebook’s messaging service. Dots will be displayed beside status updates in the News Feed. It is not known as of now when Facebook intends to make these chat dots live across the network for all users.

New legislation aims for subsidized broadband in low-income homes

In an effort to update the FCC’s long-running Lifeline program that helps put telephone access in low-income homes, a new piece of legislation has been introduced to the House of Representatives that would aim to give low-income homes the opportunity for unsubsidized broadband internet access.

internet

The bill is backed by Rep. Doris Matsui (D-CA), and it’s being called the Broadband Adoption Act of 2013, which would instruct the FCC to modify the Lifeline program in order to include broadband internet. Matsui says that the Lifeline program is fantastic, but it needs to be updated and modernized to fit within the 21st century.

Lifeline is funded by the “Universal Service” system, which helps low-income Americans pay for their landline phone, but this new bill would see Universal Services also helping pay for broadband internet access. In addition to subsidizing services, the Universal Service also helps pay for telephone service in rural areas around the country.

However, the discussion of whether or not to provide low-income households with cheaper broadband internet has been up and down in Washington for several years now, with a 2010 government report showing up that recommended the addition of broadband internet to the existing Lifeline program. Plus, Matsui introduced similar legislation in 2011, but it quickly faded away.

FreedomPop Announces Sprint-Friendly Hotspot For $40

FreedomPop Announces Sprint Friendly Hotspot For $40

FreedomPop recently set to upset the world of ISPs by offering free broadband Internet, which was a little too good to be true when we realized it would offer only 1GB of Internet service for free per month. It’s now setting its sights to the world of 4G Internet as they’re announcing their first hotspot.

FreedomPop’s Overdrive Pro is a $40 hotspot that features a dual-mode that allows it to use Sprint’s nationwide 3G network when WiMAX isn’t available and will allow its users to have 500MB of free wireless network access per month. For those data-hungry users who can’t get by on a measly 500MB of Internet service per month, FreedomPop offers a monthly 2GB plan for $20, which seems like a fair deal when you consider the first 500MB of a month will be completely free for you.

Customers who happen to already own a previous FreedomPop hotspot can upgrade to the Overdrive Pro by making a quick call to the company’s customer service. Considering this one will be able to connect to a wider range of wireless networks, we think it’s safe to say you should get to upgrading immediately.

AP Twitter Account Was Hacked, White House Bombing Tweet Is Bogus

AP Twitter Account Was Hacked, White House Bombing Tweet Is Bogus

If you follow the Associated Press Twitter account, you might have read a pretty shocking post: “Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured.” @AP_CorpComm has now confirmed that the account was hacked and that the White House bombing tweet is bogus. Those who replied to the aforementioned tweet were definitely crying foul as no other major news networks were reporting the same news. Besides that the formatting was different from AP’s usual posts, note capitalization of letter E in ‘Explosions’ and the referring to the President by his name.

Soon after this tweet was posted the Dow index fell almost a 100 points, though it has recovered now. The Syrian Electronic Army has claimed responsibility for this hack and the spreading of false information. Only recently they were suspected of hacking several CBS twitter accounts, and last year they hacked Reuters account as well. The @AP and @AP_Mobile accounts have now been suspended, on the latter the following was posted: “Syrian Electronic Army Was Here.” Such hacking incidents are becoming increasingly common, if you do spot posts that are out of the ordinary for such influential accounts, do refrain from clicking on any links posted in such dubious tweets as they might be harmful.
