Logitech adds Mac support to Alert security camera system

Logitech has extended support for its Alert security camera system to Macs, with a new version of the Commander control software pushed out for OS X. The new app supports viewing live footage from Logitech’s Alert series of HomePlug-enabled cameras, as well as recording it in HD resolution, while viewpoint controls allow users to digitally pan, tilt, and zoom what they’re seeing.

There’s also motion zone control, allowing cameras to trigger recording or send out an alert to your mobile device or via email if movement in up to 16 particular spots is identified. Logitech offers iOS, Android, and BlackBerry companion apps for smartphones and tablets, which support remote viewing as well.

Up to six cameras can be managed by a single copy of Alert Commander, and even if your Mac is not powered up, the internal microSD card in the cameras themselves keep a local version of any footage gathered. The app can then be used to transfer and backup those local recordings.

Existing Alert camera owners can download the new Alert Commander for Mac OS X from the Mac App Store today. If you don’t have an Alert camera, they start at $349.99 for the Alert 750e Outdoor Master System and $299.99 for the Alert 750n Indoor Master System; subsequent cameras are priced from $199.99.

PanaCast Camera Offers Amazing 200 Degrees Field-of-View HD Streaming

Panacast CameraPanaCast from Altia is a prototype that could change the HD video conferencing game forever. Although our screens typically use 16:9 or 4:3 ratios, the human field of view is much larger than that (especially if you count the peripheral vision), so the idea of ultra wide screen video conferencing is not new. System have been devised to give the impression that the other part “is here”, but they tend to cost tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.

PanaCast is a kickstarter project that aims at changing the game by several order of magnitude. The company has the Panacast Camera, a 200 degree wide multi-lenses device that can shoot six streams of video simultaneously and stitch them in real-time into one contiguous ultra-wide HD video stream. Logitech Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam

When it comes to computer peripherals, there is one name that tends to linger on the minds and tongues of many – Swiss maestros Logitech, and this time around, they have something a little bit different from a mouse, and neither is it a keyboard. Basically, we are looking at the Logitech Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam which allows you to stream and create videos. It does not matter if you are a video professional, a blogger or a hobbyist, this new webcam delivers the flexibility for you to perform more than other webcams, and among the features include live streaming, the ability to shoot videos from two different angles or perhaps perform a video chat session on your favorite Mac machine.

With the Logitech Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam, Logitech claims that it is a snap to create professional-looking videos from your Mac, where you are able to stream live video directly to Ustream, rely on an iPad, iPhone or Mac to control and preview the video. The Logitech Broadcaster also doubles up as a second video camera if the situation and need arises, introducing a complementary perspective to capture content beyond your Mac’s embedded webcam. Apart from that, it has built-in wireless connectivity that enables you to shoot from just about any angle you of your choice. If you are feeling more adventurous and creative, just capture the two views and stitch them together, now how about that?

Mike Culver, vice president of brand development for consumer computing platforms at Logitech, said, “The Logitech Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam lets you stream and record like a pro. It helps you make the most out of your existing Mac OS and iOS video setup for more dynamic live streaming, recording and video chatting. It goes where a built-in webcam can’t, and with one press of a button, it’s easy to switch between your built-in webcam and the Logitech Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam, so your friends and audience can enjoy a standard view or move around the room with you.”

It can also let you record video with QuickTime or Photo Booth, edit and view videos with iMovie or Final Cut Pro, and video chat with FaceTime, iChat or Skype. The Logitech Broadcaster Wi-Fi Webcam is tipped to arrive in the US as well as across the pond, if it hasn’t already, from this month onwards for $199.99 a pop.

DNP Logitech announces Broadcaster webcam for Mac with live streaming, multiangle talents

After trying (and failing) to surreptitiously shepherd it through the FCC, then seeing it leak out anyway, Logitech has formally outed the HD WiFi Broadcaster webcam. The 720P shooter (not 1080p as we hoped) allows wireless transmission from 50 feet away to any Mac computer, iPhone or iPad, instant broadcasting on Ustream and the ability to toggle between your device or computer’s built in camera with a button push. The hard plastic carrying case with a magnetic lid doubles as a stand to elevate the cam, which Logitech says will “play nicely” with apps like iMovie, Final Cut Pro and FaceTime. Broadcaster is already up for preorder for $200 in the US and 180 in Europe, so if you want to show that you’re doubly beautiful with a multi-cam Skype call, the PR and video are after the break.

Logitech Broadcaster WiFi Webcam beams straight to Ustream

Logitech has outed its latest webcam, the Logitech Broadcaster WiFi Webcam, and as the name suggests it cuts the cord with some integrated wireless. Capable of streaming directly to Ustream, the new camera can also be used with the Broadcaster app for Mac, iPad, or iPhone, for more control over what gets squirted online. Meanwhile, the WiFi Webcam can also be used to accompany the existing camera built into your laptop.

It works with FaceTime, iChat, and Skype for Mac, with a button on top toggling between the Mac’s integrated FaceTime camera and the Logitech’s wireless stream. That way you can flick between viewpoints midway through a call, handy if you need to give a close-up or a demonstration.

Logitech Broadcaster WiFi Webcam overview:

Wireless recording is possible with QuickTime and Photo Booth, along with iMovie and Final Cut Pro if you want to do some editing too. Video is shot at up to 720p HD resolution, with mono audio and in H.264 format; there’s a 3x digital zoom and an external microphone input. Logitech says the battery is good for up to 2hrs of use, though you’ll get less if you turn on the integrated video light.

Even the case does more than just protect the camera. It works as a stand, with a magnetic base on the lid holding the Broadcaster in place; there’s also a standard tripod screw, if you need more flexibility.

The Logitech Broadcaster WiFi Webcam will go on sale this month in the US and Europe, and is up for preorder now at $199.99 or £159.99. Unfortunately it looks to be Mac-only for the moment.

Logitech Wireless Webcam for Mac leaked ahead of announcement, specifics still fuzzy

Considering that pretty much the entire Mac lineup (save the Mac Pro) comes with iSight cameras which is essentially a built-in webcam, there’s really no need for Mac users to buy a third-party webcam unless they’re really fussy about the image and sound quality. Well if you think that describes you and want something of better quality to record videos or music with, then Logitech might have something for you. While not officially announced, website B&H Photo has outed the Logitech Wireless Webcam for Mac, which as its name suggests, has been designed for Mac computers and is wireless.

Unfortunately apart from that, not much else is known about the webcam although it has been speculated it can capture video in 1080p Full HD video quality. Given its wireless feature, we suspect that it can also double as a security camera and placed at entrances, or perhaps just a nifty feature for those who aren’t a fan of cables. The cloud icon at the top is interesting and we’re not sure what it indicates – integrated iCloud support, perhaps? Either way there is no word on when this particular webcam will be released, but B&H has priced it at $179.99 which we’re not sure if it will be the final price. We’ll keep our eyes peeled but in the meantime, anyone have an idea of what the cloud icon on the webcam could signify?

Logitech’s $180 WiFi webcam gets outed, targeted for the Mac

DNP Logitech WiFi webcam gets priced

That mysterious Logitech WiFi webcam we spotted on the FCC in July might have finally been outed, thanks to a tip sent to Zatz Not Funny. This Logitech Wireless Webcam for the Mac listed on B&H certainly fits the bill, as it touts both wireless capabilities and apparently a rechargeable battery. There also looks to be an interesting status indicator on the top. Seeing as most Macs already come with a pretty decent front-facing camera, we’re assuming the Logitech offers higher quality video (1080p perhaps?) and greater flexibility for broadcasting or recording to the cloud. The B&H Photo listing doesn’t exactly provide many details, but it does reveal a $180 price tag. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this when it gets official.

Logitech to announce Wireless Webcam for Mac

In the past, Logitech didn’t make a lot of effort to support the OS X community. However, in recent months and years, they’ve been doing a better job at adding OS X support to its various offerings of keyboards and mice, as well as a few webcams. However, the company has never really released a top-of-the-line webcam that was truly made for Mac users, but that day seems to be almost here.

Logitech is said to announce a new wireless webcam specifically for Mac. A listing on B&H Photo’s website shows the new webcam in all its glory. We’re not really sure if Logitech will actually just call it the “Wireless Webcam for Mac” or not, but they’ve used other basic names in the past, so we wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what they end up going with.

We’re guessing the webcam will come equipped with 1080p recording capabilities and will obviously be wireless. Just from looking at the photos, it looks like it has some sort of indicator at the top, which could be a universal indicator that can be used with an assortment of different Mac apps.

The new webcam has a price tag of $180 on the B&H website, which is pretty ridiculous for a webcam, even a wireless one. Then again, B&H likes to charge higher prices for a lot of items that you can easily buy on Amazon for a lot cheaper. Hopefully we’ll find out more details when Logitech makes it official soon.
