HP Smartphones Rumored To Be Making A Return

HP Smartphones Rumored To Be Making A Return

HP didn’t have much luck with its smartphones and tablets, particularly the ones it released that were powered by webOS. After that project was shelved, the company didn’t say when it would return to the smartphone game. There have been multiple reports in the past claiming that HP will make a return to the smartphone market, but no one is sure exactly when. A latest report by The Information claims that the company is planning to release multiple phablets with displays as large as 6 and 7 inches that will be geared towards emerging markets.

Price is a major factor in emerging markets, and it is said that HP will competitively price its new phablets so that it can effectively compete in those markets. The devices are reportedly going to be sold off contract between $200 and $250. No word as yet on the design and specifications, it also remains to be seen what mobile operating system HP opts for in its new smartphones. It would be over three years since the company last released the smartphone, it pulled the plug on the previous project back in 2011. Since then, there have only been rumors about HP’s return to the smartphone market, concrete evidence is yet to surface.

LG WebOS TV Will Be Unveiled At CES 2014

LG WebOS TV Will Be Unveiled At CES 2014

WebOS couldn’t make its mark on tablets and smartphones when Palm and HP both tried their best, perhaps it might fare well on TVs. After being on a long hiatus, and being picked up by LG, a new webOS product is on the horizon. LG has confirmed that its very first product running this OS is a TV, which is going to be unveiled next month at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas.

Hong Sung-pyo, a LG researcher, made these comments at an event in Seoul, South Korea. It is believed that the LG webOS TV is going to have a 2.2Ghz dualcore processor under the hood with 1.5GB of RAM. Multitasking features will reportedly be supported. There’s no saying what the webOS user interface will look now, LG had previously confirmed that it was revamping the interface and that it would be a “game changer.” Perhaps we might see the “cards” interface being resurrected in some form, but its too soon to be sure right now. LG’s reason to put so much time and resources into a new TV OS is that users will no longer feel compelled to use third-party set-top boxes, that they’ll have a much better experience through its webOS powered smart TV. This is not all LG has up its sleeve for CES 2014, if this doesn’t tickle your fancy, perhaps the company’s 105 inch curved ultra HD TV will.

HP Blasts Rumors That It Is Making A Smartphone

HP Blasts Rumors That It Is Making A Smartphone

It was first rumored a few days ago that HP was going to make an entry into the smartphone market once again. The company has kept itself out ever since its webOS powered devices weren’t able to gain any traction. HP was rumored to be making a Windows Phone powered smartphone, but now the company has issued a firm denial. A PR representative for HP said that the story is “fabrication and is not related to anything HP has in the works,” “someone is making stuff up,” the representative says.

Senior director of consumer PCs and tablets for Asia-Pacific at HP, Yam Su Yin, said in an interview earlier this year that HP would enter the smartphone market once again. “The answer is yes,” Yim said, adding that no timetable could be given at that point in time. Yin said that HP was keeping an eye on the smartphone market and was evaluating ways in which it could differentiate itself in the highly competitive market. Does this mean that HP would rather opt for Android as the operating system for its smartphone? Its too soon to say right now, but it is likely that rumors of a HP smartphone will surface again in the future.

Palm and webOS product auction reminds us of the forgotten Foleo

Palm and webOS product auction reminds us of the forgotten Foleo

It’s funny how, as time passes, we grow fonder of gadgets that were once disregarded. Nerd nostalgia has a knack of trumping common sense and draining wallets, which is why we’re almost hesitant to bring this auction of Palm and webOS gear to your attention. Featuring the collection of a former webOS employee, you’ll find everything from t-shirts, posters and other branded paraphernalia, through to a mint-condition Palm VII PDA, 4G TouchPads and a range of mobiles, including many from the long-forgotten Pre series. The prize piece, however, has to be the boxed, unused Palm Foleo complete with an hour of phone time with one of the product’s OG engineers, who also “has apps for you,” apparently. All money raised from the auction is going to a charitable cause, which totally justifies whatever exaggerated sum Palm’s nigh-mythical flop ends up going for.
