Momtract Makes Every Agreement Between Moms and Their Kids a Legally Binding One

Being a mom is no joke. It’s a tiring role, but with what’s expected of moms, they might as well call it a job. The hardest part is having to discipline the kids. It’s no fun, their hearts might break when they have to punish the kids, but it’s something that must be done all the same.

Mother’s Day may have come and gone, but one thing that was created because of it lives on: the Momtract.

momtract 1

It’s a tool that was created by Mother New York, which essentially creates binding contracts for “sons and daughters to contractually forsake control over one part of their lives.”

The contract goes on to make the following warning: “If you don’t meet the terms of the agreement, she can sue you.” The contract is legally binding for one year and “should there be a default on the contract, penalties include fines of up to $20,000 and a maximum number of 12 non-holiday visits from your wronged mother.”

Check it out here, and draw a Momtract up between you and your mom. Remember, it’s better late than never.

Lucasfilm registers pack of new Star Wars domains

Just a couple days ago, Electronic Arts signed a deal with Disney that would see the video game publisher obtain exclusive rights to the Star Wars video game franchise, which pretty much confirms that new Star Wars titles will be incoming at some point. Today, it has been discovered that Lucasfilm has registered a slew of domain names that are possible ideas for future game installments.

deceived-580x435

Of course, the domains could be a mix between possible move titles and video game titles, but they give subtle clues as to what the title will be about. Some of the more notable domain names that were registered include Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Wolf Pack, Star Wars Alliance, and our personal favorite: Wookiee Hunters.

Other domain names include Wolf Pack Adventures, Order 67, Bothan Spies, Gungan Frontier 2, Gungan Frontier 3, and Gungan Frontier 4. Of course, further details on these titles is far from unknown, but it at least tells us that Disney and EA are set to kick it into high gear with new Star Wars installments over these next few years.

Disney acquired Lucasfilm and LucasArts back in October, essentially getting full control over everything Star Wars. However, it came at a cost for the Mickey Mouse company, who paid just north of $4 billion for it all. It looks like that investment will come to good use, though, as Disney looks to milk the franchise for everything its worth.

Pay for a Blast from the Past: Rent a ‘Back to the Future’ DeLorean

Ever wished you could go back to the past or travel through time into the future? I have, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. A lot of people would give the pageant-perfect answer and say no, explaining that they wouldn’t be who they were today had they changed their past experiences.

I agree with that sentiment most of the time, but there’s also the case of committing mistakes consciously, just because you were in the heat of the moment or just weren’t thinking at all, period. Of course, time travel is impossible in this world, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t pay to experience a literal blast from the past.

Rent a DeLorean

There’s currently a rental service that’s lending off a street-legal DeLorean time machine that looks like it came off the set of Back to the Future. It’s not one of the actuals car they used in the movie, though it’s a pretty good replica of the iconic car-slash-time machine.

The rental service is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota during the warm season and in Las Vegas, Nevada during the cold season. However, they can travel to “practically any location in the continental United States and Canada,” should you have a need for a time-traveling DeLorean.

Hourly rates are discussed on a case-to-case basis, so you might want to get in touch with Time Machine Rental if you’re interested.

Oh, and where you’re going, you’re probably going to need roads.

Google Play Store 4 leak shows alleged new design

Screenshots have surfaced of what is said to be the next iteration of the Google Play Store, which first appeared over at Droid-Life. The current version Android users are running is 3.10.14 at most, but the version demonstrated in the image after the jump is said to be of 4.0.16. While its not official, there are a few indicators that it could be the real thing.

new-google-play13-540x319

The leak received by Droid Life isn’t a full functioning service, and from what is seen it is not ready for consumers. These things indicate that it could be real, although a Play Store leak isn’t exactly common, making it hard to decide what to think of the matter. If it is real, however, the prospect is exciting, as the user interface shows a complete overhaul.

Colors, fonts – everything is different, offering simplicity and a clean design. Headers are larger, icons are larger, the content is front-and-center, and as Android Community notes, the apps are presented in a manner similar to Google Now cards in the “My Apps” section. Both artwork and magazine covers are larger as well, making them both easier to see and more visually appealing.

Still, there’s no point in getting too excited about the leak yet, since there stands a chance this isn’t the real deal. If it is, Android users are in for a big change, however, and you can check out what some of those changes are over at Droid Life, where they give a run-down of alleged version 4. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!

PayPal offers preview of much-needed site redesign, finally enters Web 2.0

PayPal offers preview of much needed site redesign

While PayPal‘s recently revamped homepage looks fresh and modern, the actual account interface is still mired in the past, seemingly unchanged since the early aughts when the company first hit it big alongside Ugg boots and American Idol. As the online payment giant seeks to reinvent itself however, it’s finally bringing the site design into the future. PayPal has offered a sneak peek at the new look, and it’s certainly more in line with current design tropes, with a cleaner and clearer aesthetic and improved navigation to boot. The refreshed design also hints at the company’s upcoming retail efforts like in-store checkouts and purchasing grace periods where you can buy the item at the store, bring it home and then decide where the funds should come from. We’re still not sure when the redesign will roll out, but we’re guessing it’ll be around when those Discover Network cards come into play. For more screenshots of the new PayPal, take the design tour at the source.

Twitter silent on details surrounding today’s outage

If you’re one of the world’s millions of Twitter users, then there’s at least some chance that you were experiencing outages earlier today. Twitter first started reporting that some users may be having issues accessing the site this morning, but it seems that those issues have since been resolved. This problem doesn’t seem like it was a massive outage, but then again, the details Twitter gives about the issues are pretty general, so it’s difficult to know what was going on behind the scenes.

Twitter bird

The only update to the Twitter Status page says that the issue causing the outages, which were happening for a three-hour block this morning, has been resolved. “We apologize to users who were affected by this, and we’re working to ensure that similar issues do not occur,” the update reads. Other than that, we don’t have any details on the cause behind the problems.

Looking at previous posts on the Status page, however, it becomes clear that being specific isn’t really Twitter’s way. The other two days Twitter experienced outages this month, updates said something similar to what we’re hearing today. It looks like the reason behind Twitter’s outage will remain a mystery, though it is good to hear that Twitter is trying to prevent this from happening moving forward.

While Twitter didn’t go down for everyone today, it did seem to go out on a significant number of people. We’ll be keeping an ear to the ground and listening for more details from Twitter, but at this point it seems that the company is ready to move on from today’s problems. Is Twitter still down for you, or is everything running normally on your end?

Ticketmaster kicks the CAPTCHA to the curb

We all have a love-hate relationship with the CAPTCHA. On one hand, it keeps us secure from those pesky internet bots, but on the other hand, they can be extremely annoying. However, online ticket retailer Ticketmaster is doing away with the CAPTCHA for a much-simpler system that will require users to type phrases instead of incoherent words.

ticketmaster-logo

Ticketmaster is now using software created by New York startup company Solve Media, which has developed a new system that’s similar to the CAPTCHA, but it asks for well-known phrases or provides simple multiple choice questions. For instance, the new system can display an image and the user inputs a word that describes the image.

Already, trials of the new system have shown positive results so far for Ticketmaster, and Kip Levin, who is the company’s executive vice president of e-commerce, says that customer satisfaction is growing thanks to the new system. Plus, he said that the company is happy with the system as far as security measures go.

As internet robots have become more sophisticated over the years, the CAPTCHA has also had to become more sophisticated in order to keep the bots out. However, as a result, it has become more difficult for users to use the CAPTCHA due to the warped text and added time it takes to fill on out. Hopefully more and more websites will migrate to using simpler systems in the near future.

Pinterest shows off new site design, invites users to test it out

Pinterest has announced that it’s got a new site design in the works, and it’s looking for a select group of users to test it out. As detailed on the Pinterest Blog, this isn’t a massive site redesign, but the developers are rolling out a few changes in the hope of making the overall experience smoother for users. These include changes to navigation and pins themselves, so while Pinterest isn’t shaking too much up, the features it’s implementing are pretty significant.

2013012803

Regarding the changes to navigation, Pinterest is keeping its description short. The company only says that it’s made navigation more “intuitive” and faster to boot, showing off a half-image of the new interface. We can see a new drop-down menu split into plenty of different categories on the left of the page, so look forward to that once this new design lands later on down the road.

Pins are also getting something of an overhaul in this redesign, with Pinterest making them bigger in general. Users will also see more information related to the pin they’re viewing, as the new site will show related pins as well as additional ones from the same board. In other words, expect to lose track of time while browsing Pinterest more often than you already do.

2013012804

There’s no word on when these new features will roll out for everyone, but for now, Pinterest is only going to be testing it with a small group of users. If you want to join this elite few, you can submit your information to Pinterest to be considered as a tester. The company seems to be keeping most things under wraps for the time being, so hopefully we hear a bit more about this redesign soon. Keep it here at SlashGear for more.
