Batman: Arkham Origins Multiplayer Mode Will Skip The Wii U

Batman: Arkham Origins Multiplayer Mode Will Skip The Wii UWhen it comes to video games on consoles, most developers tend to release on the PlayStation and Xbox platforms, with Nintendo’s Wii and Wii U platform acting as an afterthought. For fans of Batman, you might have heard the good news in which Warner Bros confirmed that Batman: Arkham Origins will be released on all platforms – the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, the PC, and the Wii U. The bad news is that unfortunately the multiplayer mode for the game will not be released for the Wii U, instead multiplayer mode will be available only on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC.

According to a statement released by Warner Bros, “The team is focusing development efforts on platforms with the largest MP audience,” which while blunt is pretty accurate. The Wii U console is unfortunately not doing so hot right now and we’re sure excluding features from games will not be helping the console get back on its feet. Interestingly though Wii U gamers could end up paying the same amount for the game despite it lacking a pretty major feature, a move that we’re sure many gamers will not be too pleased about.

Wii U sales plummet: Just 160,000 sold in last quarter

Nintendo sold just 160,000 Wii U units in the last quarter, a huge slump of more than 50-percent compared to the previous three month period. The sluggish demand, which bring total lifetime sales of the Wii U to 3.61m units, was blamed on “few key first-party titles” by Nintendo [pdf link], with a mere 1.03m […]

Nintendo Only Sold 160,000 Wii U Consoles Last Quarter

Nintendo Only Sold 160,000 Wii U Consoles Last QuarterNintendo’s Wii U is clearly not doing as well as the company had hoped, and recent figures on the console’s sales have not changed that. According to a recent report by Nintendo, it was revealed that the company made an operating loss of around $50 million on net sales of $832 million in the first quarter of its financial year. The report went on to reveal the number of Wii U consoles that were sold worldwide between the months of April to June, with the console selling around 160,000 units. While this number seems pretty big to the average observer, it should be noted that this is actually a 51.3% decrease from last quarter.

3.61 million units of the Wii U console have been sold so far and this is shy of Nintendo’s prediction of 5.5 million systems they expected to move by the end of March. Nintendo 3DS handheld console sales have also dipped to 1.4 million units over the quarter, a decrease of 25% from last year, although software sales have gone up which some have attributed to new titles. Earlier it was reported that a UK retailer had decided to drop the Wii U console from all their locations. Nintendo executives have even gone as far as to blame the 2011 Tohoku earthquake as the reason the sales have been sluggish.

Wii U dumped by major retailer as PS4 and Xbox One near

Nintendo faces another blow to its Wii U ambitions, with news that one major retailer will yank the poorly-selling console from its shelves altogether. UK supermarket chain Asda, owned by Walmart, has confirmed it will no longer be stocking the Wii U, games for the console, or accessories in any of its 555 stores, telling CVG UK that it will only be offering select titles through its online shopping system.

Asda, the UK’s second largest market chain, has confirmed the decision to no longer stock the Wii U on-site, though has not commented on why exactly it was reached. “Asda continues to offer customers a selection of Wii U games and accessories through Asda Direct, but these ranges are currently not on offer in Asda shops” the company said in a statement.

However, it’s not hard to draw conclusions from the underwhelming sales performance the console has seen so far, which has led some big-name studios to freeze support for the Wii U moving forward. Flagship launch title ZombiU was so far from profitable that Ubisoft has decided not to make a sequel, and will in fact make its next title – initially another Wii U exclusive – multi-platform.

Ubisoft isn’t alone in its cooling ardor for the Wii U. Both Activision and Electronic Arts have said they are disappointed by the Nintendo console’s sales, and have suspended plans to launch any new titles for it.

Nonetheless, Nintendo did show off a range of upcoming titles at E3 earlier this year.

As for those upcoming games, Asda will apparently judge these on a case-by-case basis, picking only those that are expected to be best-sellers to offer online. “Asda will stock [Wii U] games on a title by title merit basis as they come along through Asda Direct” a company spokesperson confirmed.

Asda is keen to point out that avoiding the Wii U doesn’t mean it’s abandoning the Japanese gaming company altogether. “We will continue to support Nintendo as a format holder partner” it clarified, though without any further detail as to what that support might look like.

Nintendo has consistently refused to discount the Wii U, insisting that new titles will make the motion-gaming console more appealing in the long run.

Nintendo Wii U Being Dropped By UK Retailer From All Its Stores

Nintendo Wii U Being Dropped By UK Retailer From All Its StoresWhile Nintendo probably had a lot of hopes and good intentions behind their Wii U console, unfortunately the console has not managed to catch on and generate the same amount of hype and excitement that the Sony PS4 and the Microsoft Xbox One has, so much so it seems that one retailer in the UK, Asda, will no longer be stocking the Wii U console, its games or its accessories across its 555 locations. However for those who still need their Wii U games, there are always alternative retailers, although Asda did state that they will continue selling Wii U games through their online website although it will be on a case-by-case basis.

This is definitely not good news for Nintendo who has been struggling with their Wii U console, with Nintendo executives reportedly putting some of the blame on the 2011 Tohoku earthquake as one of the reasons why the Wii U and the 3DS handheld console’s sales have been bad. There are still some titles from Nintendo that have yet to be released, such as Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. which will undoubtedly attract a lot of interest, but will those titles be enough? We guess we will just have to wait and see!

Nintendo Blames 2011 Tohoku Earthquake For Sluggish 3DS And Wii U Sales

Nintendo Blames 2011 Tohoku Earthquake For Sluggish 3DS And Wii U SalesWhile Nintendo’s 3DS handheld console is certainly doing pretty well for itself now, it did not get off to a good start and saw its price reduced to help boost its sales, and the Wii U isn’t exactly a hot seller at the moment either, but what could be the cause of Nintendo’s troubles? Could it be bad hardware? Lack of games? Lack of appeal to the more hardcore gamer? Well according to Nintendo, it’s none of that. Instead it seems that Nintendo’s executives are blaming the Tohoku earthquake which occurred in 2011 for slowing the momentum of the 3DS.

According to Yahoo Japan News, this sluggish start for the 3DS had a carry-over effect on the Wii U console, which affected the sales of the console. Granted the earthquake had repercussions on not just the daily lives of the people in the area, but also on businesses, but do you think Nintendo is right in blaming the earthquake for the slow start of the 3DS and the sluggish sales of the Wii U? Assuming they are right, does that mean we expect to see Wii U sales pick up in the future?

Call of Duty: Ghosts Wii U version officially confirmed

It’s been up in the air for a while whether or not we’d see Call of Duty: Ghosts make its way to the Wii U. Activision didn’t initially announce Wii U support when it first made the game official, and executive producer Mark Rubin pretty much hinted to the fact that we would see a Wii U version, but now it’s official.

cod-ghosts-580x4711

Activision announced its fall lineup of Wii U games, including Call of Duty: Ghosts. The best part is, the Wii U version will launch on November 5, which is the same day that the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions will launch. Still no word on next-gen versions, but they’ll be launching alongside the new consoles in November as well.

The press release doesn’t reveal much about the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Ghosts, other than that the game will support the “Wii Remote and second-screen on the Wii U GamePad.” Other than that, we’re not sure how the game will utilize the second screen on the GamePad, but hopefully it’ll enticing enough for Wii U gamers to fully enjoy.

Back in June, Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin pretty much confirmed the Wii U version of the game, but didn’t necessarily point it out deliberately, only saying that the company “isn’t talking about Wii U yet.” At that time, they wanted to keep the Wii U launch a mystery, but it wasn’t really a mystery anymore after that point.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is the latest in the popular Call of Duty franchise, and it’s being developed by Infinity Ward this time around (Treyarch and Infinity Ward switch every year). Infinity Ward made a name for themselves when they released Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare back in 2007, which completely changed the first-person shooter market and is still used as a template for shooter games to this day.
