Back when Nintendo started manufacturing playing cards 125 years ago, its creators could hardly have imagined the size the company would have achieved here in our present. As many things … Continue reading
u revPeter Molyneux has never been shy or one to keep his opinions to himself. The developer behind titles such as Dungeon Keeper, the Fable series, Black & White, and the upcoming title Godus, has been pretty vocal about what he likes and what he doesn’t like in the past, and in a recent interview with Develop, the famed developer was quoted as calling the Nintendo Wii U “clumsy” and “awkward”. Nintendo’s Wii U console can hardly be considered the hottest selling console at the moment. In fact we’d be surprised if Nintendo were to ever nab that title one day. Perhaps it is the lack of titles, and perhaps it is the slow releases of first-party titles, but whatever the case is, the console is definitely not on the same level as the PS4 or the Xbox One.
The good news is that while the console will not be overtaking Sony or Microsoft’s next-gen consoles, we guess Nintendo fans can take solace in knowing that as far as prev-gen consoles are concerned, like the Xbox 360, it turns out that the Wii U’s lifetime sales has managed to overtake that of the Xbox 360’s in Japan. Nintendo’s Wii U platform is doing so hot at the moment and there are a variety of reasons why. It could be the hardware which is limiting developers from creating games on it. It could also be because there aren’t that many games on it that are causing developers to shun the platform as it could be a sign that there is no money to be made. It could also be due to a lack of gamers as gamers feel that there aren’t many games available, so why should they both? All of this is pretty much a vicious cycle that Nintendo needs to figure how to get out of, but in the meantime, a poll conducted for the GDC (Game Developers Conference) has revealed some rather disturbing numbers for Nintendo’s platforms.
According to the numbers, less than 5% (4.42% to be exact) of developers have expressed their interest in developing games for the Wii U. The numbers also show that less than 2% (1.9% to be exact) have shown interest in developing games for Nintendo’s 3DS platform. These numbers show a very disturbing trend and attitude towards Nintendo’s platform and definitely can’t be good for the confidence of gamers and current developers for Nintendo’s hardware. Perhaps as Wii U sales pick up with the release of Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros., developers might see a reason to return to the platform, but until then, we can’t say we like where this is going.

Earlier in January, it was revealed that Nintendo’s upcoming Mario Kart 8 title for the Nintendo Wii U would be seeing a release in May. The game was originally given a vague spring release but now thanks to an announcement made by Nintendo’s president himself, Satoru Iwata, it has been confirmed that Mario Kart 8’s release will be on the 30th of May, although we’re not sure if this is an international release and will be available around the world, or if the game might see a release in certain markets first before making its way to other parts of the world, but either way the 30th of May is definitely a date Mario Kart fans will want to mark down on their calendars.
Nintendo has also confirmed that all the Koopalings will be playable racers in the upcoming title, which for those unfamiliar are the level bosses that appeared in games such as Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. The Koopalings include Iggy, Morton, Lemmy, Ludwig, Roy, Wendy, and Larry, so if you were ever bored of the usual Mario Kart roster, perhaps the addition of the Koopalings should shake things up a bit. With Mario Kart 8 announced, the next title we are looking forward to will be Super Smash Bros. which has yet to receive a definite release date.

Posted in: Today's ChiliHere is the next big game for Nintendo’s Wii U displayed on my TV. Do you see something strange in this picture?
Watch Dogs is an upcoming intended for multiple platforms, such as the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Wii U. The game is scheduled to be released later this year, sometime between the 1st of April to the 30th of June, but unfortunately for Wii U gamers, it looks like you guys will be out of luck as Ubisoft has recently confirmed that they will not be releasing the game for the Wii U the same time it is released for the other platforms. Instead the game will be released at a later date although no specifics were mentioned.
According to Ubisoft, “We made the difficult decision to further delay the release of Watch Dogs on Wii U to focus the team’s resources where they could have the broadest possible benefit for both our customers and Ubisoft.” Oddly enough this statement comes after the company expressed their confidence for the Wii U platform just last year, so one would think that maybe prioritizing the console would be on their agenda. We suppose the good news is that the game isn’t cancelled entirely and merely delayed, but at the same time we can only imagine that Wii U gamers can’t be too pleased by this piece of news, and neither can Nintendo who probably needs as many games as they can get on the platform at the moment.

The Nintendo Wii U is definitely not the hottest selling console at the moment. In fact Nintendo had recently slashed sales estimates of the Wii U by 70% and if you thought that it was prime for a price cut in order to generate sales, like what Nintendo did with the 3DS handheld console, you might recall that Nintendo’s President Satoru Iwata stated that they would not be doing that. In fact Iwata is pretty adamant about not cutting the price of the Wii U and has recently reiterated the point, stating that Nintendo will be maintaining the device’s current RRP, and that he believes it is never too long for the console to succeed.
