Nintendo announced a price cut for its Wii U Deluxe just a few weeks ago, and it looks like the company isn’t done slashing pricing as they’re now dropping the price for a number of its more popular Wii games just in time for the holiday season.
Three Wii games in total will be receiving a price cut as Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii. and Wii Sports Resort will now retail for just $29.99 each. Nintendo said in a press release sent out today the price cuts are representative of one of many steps they’re taking in providing shoppers the best value and variety across all of its systems. In our opinion, all three games should already be a part of your Wii catalog of games, but this could be a great reason to finally add them if you haven’t done so already. (more…)

Last week the rumors were flying that Xbox 360 might be receiving a price cut on August 8th, just in time for the upcoming Halo 3 release. That rumor is in fact true with Microsoft officially announcing yesterday that the price drop will start tomorrow (Wednesday, August 8th), and coincides with the release of Madden NFL 08’.
According to the Microsoft Press Release,“The fact that we have been able to keep our launch price longer than any other console while retaining our leadership position demonstrates that consumers believe in the value of Xbox 360,” said Mitch Koch, corporate vice president, Global Retail Sales and Marketing Group, Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. “On the eve of the best holiday games lineup ever and the launch of ‘Madden NFL 08,’ there has never been a better time to jump into Xbox 360.”
I’d say that now was definitely a good time for Microsoft to drop the price, especially with some of the negative publicity they’ve been receiving over all of the problems with the Xbox 360 consoles, and the money that will be spent repairing/replacing them. It also places the price of the Pro Model (the most popular model) just a bit closer to the attractive price of the Nintendo Wii which will probably always remain the most affordable console available.
New Prices
The new prices are as follows for the Xbox 360:
Pro model:(was $399) NOW $349
Core System: (was $299) NOW $279
Elite: (was $479) NOW $449
As Todd Bishop said, “Here’s hoping you didn’t buy an Xbox 360 over the weekend.”
Nintendo Wii U owners were most likely aware The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD was set to be released this October, but an official release date was never announced by Nintendo. That all changes today as the publisher has just announced the title will be made available in North America on October 4. (more…)
The Nintendo Wii U may not be getting much love from third-party developers these days, but they’re certainly trying their best to persuade their long-time fans to believe in their latest video game console. That’s why they put together a little video that highlights all of the Wii U exclusives that are both currently available and are planned to be released within 2013 and 2014. (more…)
Can we all finally admit that the Wii U is in huge trouble? I mean, for months I’ve been saying it here on SlashGear, and yet, the company’s most ardent supporters have continued to say that the console will be just fine. But again, that argument flies in the face of the facts. Nintendo earlier […]
Nintendo sold just 160,000 Wii U units in the last quarter, a huge slump of more than 50-percent compared to the previous three month period. The sluggish demand, which bring total lifetime sales of the Wii U to 3.61m units, was blamed on “few key first-party titles” by Nintendo [pdf link], with a mere 1.03m […]
There are a number of notable Nintendo Wii U games coming out this holiday season as games like Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends and Super Mario 3D World will soon be upon us, but one game we’ve been keeping our eye on as well is Platinum Games’ The Wonderful 101. And lucky for us, there’s a new gameplay trailer showing off some of what we can expect from the game when it released in September. (more…)
It’s been up in the air for a while whether or not we’d see Call of Duty: Ghosts make its way to the Wii U. Activision didn’t initially announce Wii U support when it first made the game official, and executive producer Mark Rubin pretty much hinted to the fact that we would see a Wii U version, but now it’s official.
Activision announced its fall lineup of Wii U games, including Call of Duty: Ghosts. The best part is, the Wii U version will launch on November 5, which is the same day that the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions will launch. Still no word on next-gen versions, but they’ll be launching alongside the new consoles in November as well.
The press release doesn’t reveal much about the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Ghosts, other than that the game will support the “Wii Remote and second-screen on the Wii U GamePad.” Other than that, we’re not sure how the game will utilize the second screen on the GamePad, but hopefully it’ll enticing enough for Wii U gamers to fully enjoy.
Back in June, Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin pretty much confirmed the Wii U version of the game, but didn’t necessarily point it out deliberately, only saying that the company “isn’t talking about Wii U yet.” At that time, they wanted to keep the Wii U launch a mystery, but it wasn’t really a mystery anymore after that point.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is the latest in the popular Call of Duty franchise, and it’s being developed by Infinity Ward this time around (Treyarch and Infinity Ward switch every year). Infinity Ward made a name for themselves when they released Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare back in 2007, which completely changed the first-person shooter market and is still used as a template for shooter games to this day.
When sitting down to watch a lovely film on your Wii, you can now take advantage of Lovefilm’s updated streaming app for the console. Users will notice improved search functionality, a more Wii-friendly user interface and, for the first time, watch lists. You’ll also be able to pick up where you left off on other devices thanks to the new homepage which shows previously watched titles. Yup, this is what you’re getting instead of game rentals.
Angry Birds Star Wars has invaded virtually every major mobile and desktop platform; as of October 29th, it will have a footprint on nearly every modern game console, too. The sci-fi bird flinging title will ship to the US that day for the 3DS, Wii, Wii U, PS3, PS Vita and Xbox 360, with international customers getting their turn on November 1st. Regardless of the platform, there’s a few rewards for patient gamers — the console editions will carry a raft of competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes, as well as 20 exclusive levels. We’re slightly surprised that there aren’t PS4 and Xbox One ports just to complete the picture, but the launch is still good news for those who’d rather play ABSW on the big screen than give its sequel a try.
