EKOCYCLE Accessories Made out of Garbage

There is a lot of garbage in the world, which is probably why Coca-Cola and will.i.am partnered up to create EKOCYCLE, an initiative that helps market gadgets, clothing and other products which use up to 100% plastic and aluminum waste as source material.

Among the products in the line are the EKOCYCLE Beats by Dre headphones – which contain 31% recycled materials, and have three different recycled PET plastics, while still delivering optimal sound.

Levi’s has created the 29% post-consumer recycled 501 Waste<Less Jeans thanks to the fact that its polyester is a byproduct of waste thermoplastics. They use an average of eight different recycled plastic bottles per pair of jeans, and Levi’s expects to repurpose over 3.5 million recycled PET plastic bottles in the Spring of this year alone.

These products are pretty cool, and I hope that more of our gear is made out of garbage, because there is certainly plenty left over in landfills everywhere.

i.am+ Genius Phone Shown In Music Video

If you have been following us, you may remember our earlier reports on Will.i.am’s genius phone, which is really an iPhone  uber-case coming up for the iPhone 4/4S and iPhone 5. Now the artist decided to show off his new gadget during his latest music video “Scream & Shout” featuring himself and Britney Spears. During the video you see numerous pictures of the device. For people that missed out on our last story, let’s us explain you what the hype is all about.

The music artist Will.i.am, also known for being part of the Black Eyed Peas, is making a device that is supposed to make your iPhone a lot better. The device works like a case and attaches to your phone. The device is also known as the i.am+. The case will replace your iPhone’s camera with one of its own. The camera has a 14 megapixel sensor, a nice upgrade from the iPhones 8 megapixels and something totally new for a smartphone: interchangeable lenses. (more…)

Last week, entertainer will.i.am talked about his upcoming iPhone camera attachment that would boost the phone’s resolution up to 14MP. The announcement is now official, and here’s a look at how you can make your iPhone into a more more formidable camera. It looks kind of bulky and gaudy, but the iPhone 5 version does increase the camera’s resolution as promised.

The launch event happened in London where will.i.am unveiled devices under the name foto.sosho, supposedly sounding like “Photo Social.” All of the cases come with interchangeable lenses, including a standard, fish-eye, wide, and telephoto. They also have built-in flashes, a built-in sliding keyboard, and a suite of software-based editing, filtering and sharing tools.

The iPhone 4/4S will be limited to these features. The iPhone 5 version that will be released later will feature the 14MP sensor replacement. iPhoneotographers will be able to share photos and connect with others through the site i.am. The iPhone 4/4S models will be available December 6 for £199 and £299 (~$320 and $480 USD) from Selfridges. The iPhone 5 model will arrive next year and no prices have been announced.

While those prices seem extremely high for what you’re getting, the company is pitching these as “fashion accessories” more than just iPhone accessories, which they think gives them the ability to sell them for more.

Will.i.am’s New Phone Case: Worse Than His Band

We steeled ourselves last week as we learned that frequent ruiner of things, Will.i.am planned to release a gaudy iPhone case that turned your iPhone’s 8-megapixel camera into a 14-megapixeler. Now we have images and it’s even more garish and ugly than we could have imagined. More »

Will.i.am iPhone Camera Detailed Further

Remember just a few days ago, we were talking about how Will.i.am intends to turn your smartphone, the iPhone in particular, into a “genius phone”? Well, that ambition does not mean that your iPhone is about to be transformed into a mobile supercomputer, but rather, “genius phone” here would include snapping some really snazzy photos with the iPhone’s already above average built-in camera. Apparently, here we are with additional details on what the Will.i.am camera add-ons are like.

There will be a couple of models, where the contemporary version known as C.4 will retail for £199 a pop, while the vintage version, or the V.4, will cost a heftier £299. Too bad for you iPhone 5 owners, you are unable to take advantage of what Will.i.am has in store, since these will only play nice with the iPhone 4/4S. Good thing that the more advanced C.5/V.5 models will cater to the iPhone 5, but that will arrive sometime next year. Still, the £200 asking price at the bare minimum does sound rather crazy for an accessory!

William launches his pricey iam camera accessories for the iPhone, we go handson video

So, we learned two things today. Firstly, Will.i.am is able to attract quite a media scrum, and secondly, national press photographers have sharp elbows. Nevertheless, we braved the London debut of the Black Eyed Peas star’s i.am+ iPhone accessories and fortunately came away with more than just Elephunk-sized bruises. We got some brief playtime with the gadgets, plus an interview with the CEO of Will.i.am’s tech venture — none other than Chandra Rathakrishnan of Fusion Garage fame (or notoriety). If you’re wondering if we asked him why anyone would spend upwards of £199 ($315) on a wide-angle lens attachment when a really decent alternative can be had for a fraction of that cost, then hopefully the video and early impressions after the break will satisfy your curiosity.

Will.i.am Plans to Turn Your iPhone Into a 14-Megapixel Super Camera

Black Eyed Pea Will.i.am is panning to “turn your smartphone into a genius-phone”. He’s about to launch a new accessory and app for iPhone, under the monicker i.am+, that will turn the handset’s humble 8-megapixel camera into a 14-megapixel beast. More »

Will.i.am promises to turn your iPhone into a 14-megapixel ‘genius-phone’

William promises to turn your iPhone into a 14megapixel 'geniusphone'

Not content with his deliberately undefined role at Intel, the main pulse behind the Black Eyed Peas is preparing for yet another incursion into the world of technology — this time by launching a dedicated camera accessory for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 (and presumably the 4S, too). Will.i.am claims the device has “its own sensor and a better flash” and will “turn your smartphone into a genius-phone” by replacing the native 5- or 8-megapixel camera module with one that churns out 14-megapixel images instead. The Telegraph reports that the add-on will be the first of a series of “i.am+” branded accessories that will launch on November 28th. No pricing has been revealed so far, but the range will be sold solely by Selfridges in London and — much like Harrods with its own glam gadget exclusives — that store isn’t particularly known for bargains.
